My Favorite Quote-   "When you get into a tight place and everything goes against you, till it seems as though you could not hold on a minute longer, never give up then, for that is just the place and time that the tide will turn." -Harriet Beecher Stowe

I have recently lost a lot of weight and running is very new to me (I started running about 2 years ago).  I have 6 fantastic kids, 3 girls and 3 boys and a wonderful husband.

My new weight goal is to have lost 100 pounds.  I am quite sure I can get to about 93, but I am not sure about the 100.  The weight tracker is tracking my total weight loss.

It felt really warm this morning.  I have been feeling hot for the past few days.  I must be retaining water or something.  Strange.  I have also been very irritable!  Diet Pepsi withdrawl? ;)

Anyway- the first mile felt terrible, although I chicked an elderly woman on her morning walk.  (Is is "chicking" if it's a girl you pass? Probably not)  My first mile was all up hill though- excuses excuses- my first mile is ALWAYS uphill.  The second mile was fine.  If I had gone longer it would have been a much better overall run. (I can't believe I said that)  BUT... I must stick to my mileage plan.

Tomorrow is 10 miles and I am going to try a gel :P   I am pretty sure I will throw up, but I gotta be sure.  I really like Jolly ranchers.  The past 2, 10 milers, I just kept a jolly rancher in my mouth the whole time, pretty much, and drank about 4 C of gatorade over the run and was fine.  (my first 10 miler, I majorly crashed and burned at mile 7- must never let that happen again if possible)  I read about someone eating cinnimon bears on another blog- I love those little guys!

Good luck to everyone either racing or long running this weekend!  Be safe and swift!

Hey, Have you tried shot blocs? I prefer them over gels and gu. Good girl to keep the miles down in preparation for your 10 miler. I know it is hard to hold back when you feel like flying!! Good luck tomorrow!! ARe you trying to beat your Riverwoods time, or just a enjoy a leisurely run? I am into leisure runs and leisure anything...... love leisure..... I am so good at it!! Have a great weekend!!!

No I haven't tried Shot Blocs. What are they like and where do I get them?

No beating riverwoods time. Just a leisurely run as slow as we can stand! :D

Good luck on your 10 miler. I used gels,t then switched to shot bloks, then I switched back to gels (vanilla gu for me to be exact). I think the key is to find a flavor and consistency that works for your stomach. I wouldn't try one gel and then give up on them if you throw up. I personally like the GU brand much more than powergel, and there are definite flavors that make me gag. My favorite shot bloks were orange (no caffeine), pina colada (1/2 caffeine) and black cherry (full caffeine).

I like the green apple powergels, and jelly belly sport beans. Chocolate gu's are okay but I have to immediatly chase all of this with water to get down.

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!! I will hit the running store and buy an assortment for trying. Are the shock blocs, like jigglers? we need to invent Jolly rancher ones or gummy bear ones. I did try the jelly belly's at the riverwoods 10 miler and those were ok.

They are a Clif bar product, so they are easy to find, try the gel too, but I find the shot blocs go down a lot easier, sometimes the gel and gu are too sweet. I agree with Laure that Chocolate gu is good, but you do need alot of water to chase it down. You are on the right track, try a bunch of stuff. Good for you for doing a nice slow long run!! Have a great one!

They are thicker than jigglers, but close. Runners corner has a good assortment.
