My Favorite Quote-   "When you get into a tight place and everything goes against you, till it seems as though you could not hold on a minute longer, never give up then, for that is just the place and time that the tide will turn." -Harriet Beecher Stowe

I have recently lost a lot of weight and running is very new to me (I started running about 2 years ago).  I have 6 fantastic kids, 3 girls and 3 boys and a wonderful husband.

My new weight goal is to have lost 100 pounds.  I am quite sure I can get to about 93, but I am not sure about the 100.  The weight tracker is tracking my total weight loss.

As we left this morning there was a soft yellow orange glow over a purple blue silhouette of the mountains.  It was breathtaking!!  It is really beautiful here  :D

33 degrees.  I tried running without the long johns under my running tights.  BAD IDEA!  My legs were FROZEN the entire time.  Ok at 3 miles they felt a bit numb and less painful.  I swear my knees were creaking like the Tin Man.  The top was good.  I wore the same tops as yesterday.  I brought a scarf today, but really need a gator.  I am going to try the ski mask tomorrow :D

The run was fine.  It felt great, except the COLD!!!!  Maybe my legs like the cold.  It's like running and having an ice bath at the same time ;) Kim ran with me the first two miles, but had to turn back for work :(   We ran the same out and back as yesterday.  I like it.  It is the same distance to Salem and back but feels a TON shorter.

The hotel I am staying in has a gym.  I am trying to use up most of my weekly miles before I go so I will have less on the treadmill to run.  We will be staying in Walnut Creek CA.   I am going with my parents and my brothers and sisters.  It has been more than 20 years since we've gone on a vacation with just us.

This pic is the cover for our family cookbook by my very tallented brother Adam Ford.  His blog is AWESOME!  The title of the Cookbook is "Never Trust a Skinny Cook"  It's a joke in our family :)   http://adamscreation.blogspot.com/

What a fun picture!! Your brother is so talented, and very clever! I love his funky style! So, are you guys going to sell your cookbooks? If so, I want one, maybe more, great Christmas ideas!!!!! Please let me know. I did a Family Christmas Recipe book, and it was super cute but every flippin' recipes had typos, it was a bomb. PROOF READ and PROOF READ again, I am just kicking myself that I didn't, I totally ruined it.

You are so lucky to live and run in the country, I envy you, the city streets get old! We need to get a bunch of us SLCers to come down and do one of your fabulous runs one day.

Good for you for figuring out the cold weather clothes. Nothing will stop you!!

About 13 years ago I compiled all of mine and Davids family, friends and extended family's recipes. We've printed it a few times. We are always making changes and repairs. One recipe for Flan from my brother has changes about 100 times. It's several hundred pages. You are very welcome to one. I don't like the printed versions anymore because I am ALWAYS adding new ones. I have it in a document if you'd like a preview. I'll let you know how much they are when Aly gets them ready for print. In the past I have done all the work, but my sister Aly has decided that she wants a shot at it. I am TOTALLY great with that. It actually started as bridal shower gifts. I'd get the newbie's moms recipes and add them to our own and print her a cookbook. We love it :)

My uncle lives in Walnut Creek. It's so beautiful there. Enjoy that vacation with family, it sounds wonderful!

I wish I were going with you---do you have room in your suitcase for me?

I got to see the moon go behind the mountain today, and it was cool!!! Did you see the moon today?

From marion on Oct 14, 2008 at 13:40:13

No, we didn't leave until 7:15ish and there was no moon that I saw :(

If you'll fit in my carry on you can come! :)

From Kelli on Oct 14, 2008 at 13:42:22

Dang, I am not that small.

I really wanted to get a picture of it, but I did not get home fast enough. It went behind the mountain at about 7:05 (at least here). It was cool.

But, you have all of the beautiful scenery, what do you need with the moon, right?

I have to share. I just ate the BEST lunch ever in the WHOLE world. I took about a cup of the leftovers from Rachels recipe (see sunday) and added one diced avocado and tomato. It was DIVINE!! I am trying to keep myself away from the kitchen. DANG that was GOOD!!! THanks again KFB!!!

What a great picture! Your brother sounds like a fun guy, and what a talent.

Wow, you guys have already transitioned into the eskimo running season. Great job! Time to get a dog sled...

I do miss the beauty of Utah. I went to school there and LOVED the majestic mountains.

Have a great time on your trip, Marion! Wow, 20 years--you deserve this!

From Megan on Oct 14, 2008 at 15:53:40

Hi Marion. Have fun on your vacation! I see you did yoga on vacation, too... did you use your on-line teaching or did you go to a class in walnut Creek?

As for my yoga, it went pretty good this morning, my IT-bands are just really tight.

I just got back from watching Paul, Julie said she just got a call from the surgeon and they are putting his skull back on THIS Monday!!! We are so excited! I am leaving for a girls weekend with my mom and her friends Sunday to go to Misquite, it will be a spa/lay out at the pool trip. I am so in need of some selfish girl time, I have several books and am ready to go! Marion when do you leave for Walnut Creek? That will be fun to have the whole family together. How many siblings do you have?

From marion on Oct 14, 2008 at 16:19:17

Les- That is GREAT news about Paul! What a fun trip over the weekend! Enjoy yourself! You deserve it!

Meg- Good luck with the IT bands! They are a bugger to stretch! Maybe post something to the discussion board :)

Lybi and Meg- I would LOVE to live in a more temperate climate. Since I have lost so much weight, I can not handle the cold at all. I am hoping to adjust someday!!

We are leaving friday morning really early. I have 5 brothers and sisters. I'm the oldest :) I doubt I will have time for Yoga. We are coming back really fast. My dad is getting inducted to the hall of fame for some records in track that he still holds. My dad is pretty shy and embarrased about going but my mom is all over it and is having all of the kids come too. She's pretty excited :) My dad is a bit mortified. :) Good times! Free trip with out my kids!! Hopefully we will get along better than when we were kids! ;)
