Personal:

My Favorite Quote-   "When you get into a tight place and everything goes against you, till it seems as though you could not hold on a minute longer, never give up then, for that is just the place and time that the tide will turn." -Harriet Beecher Stowe

I have recently lost a lot of weight and running is very new to me (I started running about 2 years ago).  I have 6 fantastic kids, 3 girls and 3 boys and a wonderful husband.

My new weight goal is to have lost 100 pounds.  I am quite sure I can get to about 93, but I am not sure about the 100.  The weight tracker is tracking my total weight loss.

It was a beautiful morning.  We didn't run much because my calves were cramping up again.  Also, I had those side shin splint ankle burning things again.  These "pains" were far less than they were after the Prove 10 miler, but the same things.  I have got to work on my electrolyte balance on a daily basis, and especially after long runs and races.  I have been having electrolyte problems for 6 months and I have got to get a handle on it.

Action Plan (feel free to suggest more stuff)

banana's every day, one whole one and one in my protein/dairy smoothie, right after my runs

go to the good earth and get Mama Calm (as suggested by Michelle)

NO MORE DIET PEPSI :(  *for 1 month and see if that helps :)

NO MORE MISSING YOGA CLASSES

Eat mainly whole foods.

I would suggest a supplement called Mama calm by Peter Gllham's Natural Vitality for the cramping. As for the shins ice them after you run and run the back of your calves.

Thanks! How do I "run the back of my calves?" I have been telling them to "relax" as I run and that helps somewhat. I am a very visual and somewhat dense person. Feel free to describe in great detail :)

The way I do it is stand with your the front of your shin on the bed or a chair (so the belly of the mucsle is exposed). Then with your fist work from top to bottom, using some lotion if you would like. Or you can cross your legs, man style. And grab and pull and knead the belly of the muscle.

Thanks Josse! I am off the rub the tar out of them. I have been putting my lower legs in the creek a few times a day and that helps a ton with any stiffness or aches!

That is a bummer about the calves, I wish I had a suggestion, I have not had to deal with that issue, so I don't have any ideas for you. It looks like afew bloggers out there might be able to help you. Good luck and I hope tomorrow is better for you!

P.S. Good job on forgoing the diet pepsi or soda of any kind. I really pride myself on being a middle of the road kind of person, but I am at war against soda. You will lose 3-5 pounds just getting off that stuff, and after the initial withdral (which will make you feel like you have the flu), you will never have felt better. Soda is pure evil-- it robs your bones of calcium and your blood of oxygen. You won't be sorry leaving it behind. If you have to have caffine, replace it with green tea. I know that gets me into lots of "conversations"--but I would sooner pour strychnine down my throat before soda.

From marion on Jul 08, 2008 at 16:59:10

Wow- I had no idea! Hey- if it will make me faster I'll go off anything :D I am not much of a caffine addict- or even oa soda addict, I just like it as a treat ;) I have to find a new 0 calorie treat.

From luzylew on Jul 08, 2008 at 17:26:08

When you find one,let me know! When I 'gotta have' something, I usually stick with a few pieces of dark choclate--Lindt Lindor dark choclate truffles are my favorite. In fact, I love them so much I might start my own blog called fatrunningblob.com :) I try to keep it to two a day and run a few extra laps. Seriously though, let me know about any other 0 cal treats.

From marion on Jul 08, 2008 at 17:37:26

That ROCKS!!! I LOVE that! The chocolate donsn't work well for me because I SNARF it all down in one fail swoop! Is crystal light poison too? (please say no, please say no, please say no)

Some people probably feel the same way and have more knowledge about artificial sweeteners (in the same way I feel about carbonation) but on a limited basis, but I think fake sweetener the lessor of the two evils (at least where running performance is concerned). I drink non-carbonated 'fake' sweet at least once a day. But I have heard bad things too....Which again, is why Choclate doesn't seem all that bad now does it?
