On Saturday, I am running my first 5k this year, actually since September and I am a bit nervous.  I would love to beat 29, but I am not sure.  My tempo run on Saturday give me some confidence about the whole thing, but I am still not sure.  I will warm up for a mile and then go for it.  I need to work on some goals for the splits.  I can't start too fast, because I need some juice for the last mile.  I am going to have to think on this whole thing.  Any notions?

BTW- I had such a great time last night :)  Thanks SO much!!!

Now those are very strange  splits.  That was not on purpose even at all.  Kim and I ran to Salem and back.  So that means that the first and last miles had the "Beast" in them.  The three middle miles are as flat as it gets around here.

Can I just say that I LOVE IT WHEN KIM RUNS WITH ME!!!  That was the fastest 55 minutes of my life!  Good friends are hard to find and good friends who will run with you are even more rare.

Ooooo... I put an orange in my vanilla protein shake and it was tasty.

Have an AWESOME Monday :)

I woke up at 6:45 this morning and was SHOCKED so I went with it!  I got my shivering self out there and the miles under my belt.  I am supposed to run with Kim today after school, but I had to go with the early run.  She's going to wallop me, but I'll make her some treats and hopefully she'll forgive me.  I really needed a slow run today.  I need slow runs for the rest of the week.  I will do some strides on Thursday, maybe :)  It's Corrine's birthday today (RunningRinny) so I had better get in the shower so I can get up there and party with here a bit today :D

Hey you!!!  A word about my least favorite terrain to run on.  I HATE mud that has been driven on by big trucks, making giant 3" deep tire tracks... and then it freezes that way.  I had to run a quarter mile on that stuff and I am glad I made it out without a broken ankle.   I was kinda pooped on the run today.  It was an up hill/down hill route.  The 3rd mile is hilly flat-ish with that quarter mile of death in the middle :)  I think my new asics hurt my feet.  I am going to look back at other runs and see if it is them.  I fear it is.  I wonder if Steve takes returns on running shoes?

Happy Thursday!  I get to go shop for a formal with my oldest tonight.  I sure hope there is something blue and CHEAP we can find.  I don't have to worry about the modest part.  She wears baggie jeans and hoodies everywhere.  I should say, I hope we can find something she will wear that does not look like a tarp ;)  She is such a cute girl, but she has a major sense of modesty that she did not get from me! ;D

I did not take my Zyrtec last night and I am sneezing up a storm.  I didn't realize I had skipped it until just a bit ago.  That would explain the wheezing and sneezing ;)

Ok- here goes the race report.  I got up this morning after a fit full night of race dreams.  I couldn't find the trail.  I couldn't run the last stretch and had to crawl.  In one Sasha had a huge Afro.  All morning, I could not figure out what to have my race plan be.  I know everyone says go all out for the whole thing, but I think I am going to stick with the more conservative approach.  This is a PR for me on an pretty flat course, unaided.  I did Payson flat with Michelle running along with me and I have done a down hill one at faster times.

My splits were 9:06, 10:02, 10:35/ ave 9:35.16.  I came early and warmed up with Maurine, about 1.8 miles.  It was SO great to have her there!  She is WONDERFUL!  When the race started I stuck with her until I couldn't any more.  She lost me before the turn around.  After the race, she treated me to a Salted Caramel Hot Chocolate at Starbucks.  It was SO yummy!  I need to remember that my eyes are WAY bigger than my tummy and just get the small one.  Maybe a small hot chocolate in a large cup and filled with whipped cream to the top ;)  I am not much of an eater after races.  I don't think well either ;)

In two weeks I will run the Onion Days 5k route again so to compare my time from September on the same course.  I will also do this Provo one again too.  I really liked the trail.  Now that the winter is winding down, I am going to really focus on my speed work one day a week.  After six more pounds are gone, I will add one more day of speed work and head into the 40's for my weekly mileage.  I wish I were more driven.  I have learned that when I am more driven, it does not last long, though.  The slow and steady always seems to work better for me.  I just would like faster results!  Duh... doesn't everyone! ;D

I am officially POOPED out and need to keep moving.  I wanted ten miles to day, but the legs aren't feeling it.  After the race, Sasha asked how my legs were feeling.  I said, "They are great and I am off for 5 more.!"  Well, after about .75, my legs made it perfectly clear that they really could care less about my personal plans.  Having Maurine with me for the last ~3.1 after the race helped a ton.  We also stopped by Sarah and Sasha's to say HI!  That was a pleasant break, although I could have just stayed on their sofa for another hour or so!

Have a happy Saturday.  I am making homemade tamales for Sunday dinner.  Wish me luck!  xoxoxoxoxoxoxoxo to you all!!!

I guess I won my age division after all.  I am quite shocked.  There were 5 women in my group 31-45.  I may fall over and die!  I don't think I will believe it until it is officially posted.  Mary Ann, the race director, just emailed me.  HOLY CRAP!!!

Recovery run.  My legs were tired but OK.

Bad news last night.  Kylee's (she's my SIL on the blog) dad died last night.  He was diagnosed with AML (Acute Myloid Leukemia) about 3 weeks ago.  They were unable to treat him because of a blood disorder he had.  The doc's at Huntsman just treated the symptoms as best they could and tried to make him comfortable.  Kylee's mom died in October of 2007 after a 17 year battle with breast cancer.  Needless to say she is feeling pretty bad.  I am SO sad for her and all of her brothers and sisters.

I made my goal for an "easy" run day according to McMillins calculations.  I was supposed to be between 11:30 and 12:00.  I was very tired this morning, even though I slept in until 10:00 AM!  No, that is not a typo.

Kim and I had a nice run with a light snow falling and clear roads.  There was a stiff head wind in the third mile as we went up a steep hill.  That was rough.  I kept getting stabbed in the eyes by sharp little snow flakes.  They looks so innocent!

I must remember that cold cereal before a run is not the best choice ;)  I need to get to the store.  We are totally out of fresh fruit and vegetables.

I did the push up test, yoga and the Around the World core workout last night.  I have got to get serious about the rest of my body :)

Have a GREAT day :) xoxoxoxoxo

I did not get up to run this morning to do my long run :(  Oh well, flexibility is key to success!!  I had to hit the TM.  I found a game to play with myself.  I had to run a full mile before I could get off for a few minutes for a treat.  Mile one treat was a trip to the potty ;)  Mile 2 was check email really fast.  Mile three was start a load of laundry, and mile 4 was a big glass of water and watch the commercials from the couch! ;)  Am I a dork or what?? Each time I got back on, I increased my pace by 30 seconds.  I don't know if there is a name for this type of workout but I will call it, "Marion is lame and has to trick herself into running on the treadmill" workout.  It has been snowing here all morning.  It is a really good thing that snow is so beautiful!!! ;)

I had five planned but my hamstrings do not like the TM yesterday and my left ham was irritated today.  I ran outside, a super slow jog up hill to give my ham a rest.  I stopped and stretched once and it feels OK now, just a titch sore.  I am going to baby it for as long as it is whining at me.  If it is still bugging my Monday, I will go see Dr Brady.  Last January I pulled it running on the treadmill.  From what Dr Brady explained to me, I am a toe runner, hence the calf problems.  When I get on the treadmill, it forces my hams to work more than they are used to.  If I set the treadmill to an incline, I force myself on to my toes and create some relief for the hams.  Yesterday in mile 4, I started to notice my hams and increased the incline for mile 5.  I think all will be well, but I am going to be cautious for the rest of the week ;D

Happy almost Weekend!!!

1 to 2 inches of snow last night have made for a slick and icy road condition this morning.  Since the treadmill is out, I am going to wait until we get back from the Draper Temple open house after noon.  We are taking the kids out of school to go :)  Fun times :)

** wE HAd a great time with the kids today.  No lines, no wait.  We arrived in the parking lot at 9am and were back in  our car to go home at 10am.  Perfect.  We shopped at Old Navy and had lunch at Chili's.  GREAT TIME!  Note- all old Navy's kids clearance is 50% off the lowest marked down price ;)

The left ham was fine for the whole run except for the last 1/2 of a steep down hill at about 4.5 miles in.  It just ached a bit, just enough to know that it was there.  I am going to add one mile a day on the treadmill to help strengthen the ham.

Have a very happy Valentines Day!  We are going to stay home with the boys.  The girls all have plans :)  Let them fight the crouds!

I have to keep reminding myself that February is my rest month for the year.  I am not worried about any particular goals in February, just making it through this STUPID month :D  There was a nice layer of DEATH all over the roads when I got up to run, so I did my Week one Day 2 of the push up challenge.  I am going to run one mile on the treadmill this morning and then 2 this afternoon, one at a time.  I don't want to hurt my ham.  I will set the treadmill to an incline.  I'll also do my core work out as soon as I am done here. :)  "Go with the flow.  Be flexible!  NO STRESS!!!"

*** tried to run on the treadmill...the left ham is MAD!!!... I am going to go try a mile outside and see if I die :)***

Coolest thing ever.  David and & pulled into Bajio last night after the temple and you will never guess who was in line in front of us?  Mary Ann!  We had our Valentine dinner with her and had a GREAT time.  She is such a cutie :)  No, we don't get to go out tonight.  Valentines will be spent with our four youngest, watching Madagascar II :)  We are going to have a blast! ;)  Yes, I am trying to convince myself this is true!  I want to go to a movie with David, but no luck.

Oh and by the way- David wants a nick name.  I am always saying, Kelli "with an I", Scott "who is married to Kelli".  Tyler "Shepherd, married to Kellie with an ie".  Kellie "with an ie married to Tyler." Larry, "Mr. Smooth".  Michelle, "the speedy chick".  Paul, "Michelle's husband".  Kelly "with a Y who is in love with Jon".  Maurine... "Tarzan".  Leslie "my runner friend who's son in law had the stroke and we went to the luau."  He actually he knows who you are a lot better now, but he wants a nickname.  He came up with David "with a U" or David with the double d's.  I assumed he was referring to the two d's in his name, but he was referring to my double d's.  He was cracking me up last night. ;D  OH- and I think I have a commitment to start running from him.  I sure hope he does it!  We spent $105 on running shoes almost a year ago, and it is making me MAD!  He promised me a six month try with running and I only got 2 weeks last year.  He's dead meat if he doesn't get to it!!

Week 1 Day 2, max at 5 girly push-ups :)  Around the World Core workout (12 each).

I was out late this morning so I couldn't get my full five in.  Bummer :(  Anyway- regular run, no pains or aches.  I am fully participating in Redemption Monday, as I have been on a dessert BINGE since last Wednesday night.  I have some serious damage to fix.  It was somewhat of a surprise that I behaved so badly over the past few days, but it was a really busy time and I don't do well with busy or an abundant supply of CRAP!!  I will spare you the list of indiscretions as to not make you hungry.  It is going to take at least a week to fix this food disaster, but oh well.  Hopefully I have learned from it and won't make the same mistake again, or at least as BAD! ;)

I have been getting sick since Saturday.  It's not bad yet, and I am hoping all of the EMERGEN-C is helping to avoid full blown illness.  I am only like a 2 on the scale.  Lots of tea and blankies today ;)

I don't know if I have ever shared this before, but I am a paranoid hypochondriac for the first 1-2 miles of every run.  "I'm sick,"  "That pain could be a stress fracture," "There is probably a murderer in the canyon,"  "Maybe it is pneumonia,"  "Am I having a hear attack?"  "Is this what a stroke feels like?"   As you can see, I am totally insane, so it is hard to tell the difference between legitimate illness and  my standard craziness!  I am getting better at it and today I could tell that by mile 4 I would be hitch hiking home so I turned around at the mouth of the canyon.  I am going to lay on the couch with my sick kids and watch movies.  Mac threw up all over the preschool yesterday and Ford was up coughing last night.  Oh the joy!  I just hope that Mac had some food poisoning from school and not the stomach flu!  Isn't that sad when you hope for food poisoning as to avoid an outbreak of the stomach flu in your home?

What a FUN run!  I drove to the Provo River trail and meet Luz for an 8-12 miler.  We stopped to stretch at mile ~3 and I forgot to retart my garmin :(  She showed me a great ham stretch that I could do on the run.  It really helped that bad boy loosen up ;)  I am so glad she was with me.  She kept me entertained while I huffed and puffed along :)  That trail is SO beautiful.

Alright- have you ever skipped rocks onto a semi frozen lake?  That was the coolest sound ever!  The lake was SO beautiful!  I want to move into Luz neighborhood.  It is cute and looks really quite and butts right up to the Provo River Trail, which is eventually supposed to end up hooking into the JRP!

Luz is so much fun and a GREAT running partner.  I think we are going to try to get together more often.   We want to try the Porter Rockwell trail and run down Hobble Creek.  As soon as the canyon thaws, I'll try to loure Luz down to run down our beautiful Payson Canyon.  It was SO fun!  Y'all should come too and we can have breakfast at my house when we are done ;)

Can you say MOLASSES!!!  I was going for a tempo run today.  Mile two is an all out push and NOTHING!!!  I guess my legs had other plans this morning.  They felt like lead.  Oh well.  I did try my new 6 mile route.  I am going to do it twice this week and 3 times next and so on until all of my days are six's.  FUN!!!

Ok- if you are faint or queezy, you may not want to read about my breakfast.  I am having a green smoothie.  Here are the ingredients:  beet greens, kale, celery, carrot, apple, orange, banana and lemon juice.  It is VERY UGLY but tastes great.  I am going to have one after every run from now on.  Oh and no more soda ( I mean it this time).  I am going to have a smoothie and NO soda for 2 months.

I am off to do laundry and clean the family room.

Great run today :)  I actually felt really good today.  On mile 5 I needed to so some strides.  I did three, 8:50, 8:45 and 7:39.  The last one drained the tanks and so I just took the last mile nice and easy.

Today's green smoothie is VERY pink.  1/2 raw beet, beet greens, celery, orange, apple, banana, kale, carrot and lemon juice.  I wonder if my teeth are pink???  I should probably use a straw!

Leslie and Maurine (hopefully) are coming to run around Payson with me on Saturday.  We are going 10-14 miles at a very easy and relaxed pace.  We'd love to have more company if anyone is up for it :)

It was snowing, but it was a great day to run.  The roads were clear and next to no drivers out.  The best part was the Kim came and ran with me :D  When we got home I made her a green smoothie and she brought me a banana blueberry bran muffin.  The perfect morning :)  I made the same smoothie as yesterday except I added coconut oil.

I am off for a fun day with David and the boys.  Have a GREAT weekend!

Don't forget to PM me if you want to run with Leslie and me (and hopefully Maurine) in the morning.

Leslie and I had the most perfect run this morning.  She came down at 7 and we ran the Payson 10k route and then down the canyon to top it off.  Oh wait- we actually topped it off at One Man Band for a greasy breakfast.  Man that had a bit more grease than I remember.  It was SO great to spend the morning with Leslie :)  Running is the best.  We had a couple stops for foot fixes and a bit of stretching.  It was darn cold!  Leslie's water bottles froze :D

I hope y'all are having a great weekend!  I am off to do some laundry :p  and hopefully a hot date tonight :)

Alright, I just noticed that I am .5 miles away from 40.  I have to go run some more! :)  I will return and report.

*** .8 M with Will.  He's 3.  He needed some Skittles and I needed a bit more to break 40 miles.  This is a PR for me :)  I am probably the coolest person in Payson today :)
