Woke up late and had to run short. Maybe it was a good thing, as I had a lot of pain at the end of my run and rolling my ITB yesterday. The main pain is mid thigh now with a bit in the hip. I am still reeling with excitement about my swim last night :) HAPPY DAYS!!! I need to find a wet suit so I can swim with the BRAVE Michelle in the reservoir this fall, well, starting next week. I'll call my brother :) I am going to bike tonight and tomorrow night. Thursday, I am going to put the whole tri together. I can hardly walk straight when I get out of the pool, so I am a bit concerned about how it will work out. At least it is a sprint sprint :) (400 swim, 9 mile ride, 5k) On a FABULOUS note, my weight is going down AMAZINGLY well. I am SO excited :) I may get brave enough to post it one of these days :)

No run today. My ITB was really tender last night when I rolled it, so I am going to cut it some slack today. I think I may go on a slow easy FLAT bike ride after breakfast with Will in tow. From what I have read, easy flat riding is OK for ITB cross training. I am SO glad that I did not get into St George. I would be SO freaked out right now.
*** 74 minutes bike ride with Will in the trailer :) It was pretty relaxed but tiring.

9 mile bike- 51:00
3.1 run- 32:19/ ave 10:25.48
Well, now I know that I can do the tri next week. The knee is fine. I am POOPED! I am also SHOCKED that my run was so fast. The first split was in the 9's with JELLO legs. I started this at about 4:30pm with a temp of 88 degrees. This is the WORST time ever to try to cross the highway to get to the flat lands where I bike and run.
Fueling ideas. Powerade at the transition area. 1/2 after the swim and 1/2 after the bike. I am going to take water on the bike ride and gue at mile 4.5 for running energy. That is the plan. I did just water today at the transition spots and I was fine. My mountain bike is a killer. I wont be fast, but I'll be buff!!! |

Michelle brought us secret weapons to stash in our sports bras that we threw at the stands before we started. This was Kellie's GREAT idea. Some of the audience threw the water balloons back at us ;)
McKenzie was going to get this pig NO MATTER WHAT!

Best day ever!At about 6:10 my house began to fill with millions and billions of the bestest, nicest, runner folk in the WHOLE WORLD!!! We jogged over to the start and warmed up, ran and them came back to my house to EAT! Paul and David were the best cookers and babysitters in the west. *** Real race report- 9:04, 9:56, 10:13, 7:48(40 sec for .9) Ok- I started by jogging over to the start with all the folks at my house :) My first mile was fine, not too hard, about a 7 on a scale of 1-10. There was a girl who started with me who was shooting for a sub 30. I told her to hang with me for as long as she could. She did until mid mile 2. In mile 2 I was feeling tired. About 1.8, my ITB started to complain, so I dropped the pace and kept it down. I slowed quite a bit in here, ~11-11:30 pace. The knee calmed itself :) At about 2.5, an older woman, who I had passed earlier, passed me. As she passed me, she told a teenage boy, "Don't let your Grandma beat you!!" I thought to myself, "I am NOT going to let that grandma beat ME!!" So I figured, even if my knee starts screaming, I can punch it the last 1/2 mile, so I did. The knee grew a brain and kept quite, and I took off. It actually felt really good to take off like that. I was surprised to see I had the kick in me. All in all, not too bad. :)
THANKS!! I am off to the SF reservoir with Michelle, Luz et al :) PS- that is more than a minute PR for the course :) **** We had a GREAT time at the reservoir. That is some COLD water!!! :)

| | :P Not a great run today :( My knee was sore/tender for the first whole mile, then it stopped, so I continued on, then about .2 later it got mad so I turned around and about a 1/4 mile later it was REALLY mad, so I walked :( I am going to call Dr. Brady today. My knee does not have to be perfect for the tri- I just have to be able to run 3 miles :) I knew I was in trouble when my knee started to yell at me on the second return trip across the reservoir on Monday afternoon. There was nothing I could do, it was really a "sink or swim" kind of thing ;) I guess I could have climbed on the HUGE log/tree we were pushing back to the kids, but if Luz's daughter Sage was too big to push, I think I am definitely TOO big to push. I didn't say anything to Luz, Michelle or David, cause there was nothing to say about it. Walking the stairs down from the reservoir was NO fun :p Oh well, DARN knee/ITB is going to have to get over itself soon. When will it learn that I am not going to give into its whiny, negative behavior???? ;D

70 minutes of yoga today ( I did a few more piriformis poses after the class). My hams are dying from yesterdays class, focusing on Sciatica. I have been seriously neglecting stretching as of late. No more. I am going to focus this fall/winter on losing 27 more pounds, building over all body strength. I am hoping to get healed up and back into my 5-6 miles a day within the next 6-8 weeks. In the late winter/spring I will focus on UVM. Below is a description of the yoga class I did to day on yogatoday.com. The whole site used to be free, now they only have 2 classes a week that are free. The rest are available for a fee of $9 per month. I am probably going to subscribe. I need the yoga daily.

12:40, 12:31, 12:18, 13:45(walk run)
biked 5 Michelle came by at 7am. She walked FAST while I jogged along, totally flat route. My knee was fine until in mile 4. It did not go full blown ticked at me, but just right before it does the scream thing and "give out/weak" thing. I have an appointment to see Dr Brady next Friday. For the riding, I just followed Michelle while she ran and walked. She did great. I am SO glad that she is running again and feeling good :)
I bailed on the tri this morning. I spoke with the race director yesterday, and the 5k route had a steep up hill and a corresponding down hill, done in a loop, twice. I knew the hills would KILL my knee, and delay recovery. 70 min yoga Sciatica

A windy day of rest :) I stayed home from church :( My allergies are trying to turn into a sinus infection, so I got myself some Sudafed, a big glass of water(44oz) and am going to rest today. I usually end up on a nasal steroid, but I am hoping to avoid it by resting today and getting rid of the congestion. Here's hoping. Are there any no calorie/low calorie orange juices? I want some V-C without all the calories. Tea sounds good. I wonder if I have any? I'll have to go on a hunt. I wish hot chocolate had the same healing properties as hot tea ;)) ...Oh and the same # of calories ;D
Oh- since this month is Yoga Month ;) yogatoday has a 24 minute newbie sequence streaming. Here is the link http://blog.yogatoday.com/2009/09/09/a-sequence-for-the-novice/ I started to watch it but decided I'd rather take a nap. My plans for the week are to #1- NOT GET A full blown SINUS INFECTION. #1.2- See Dr Brady this week #2- run 3 miles every day, 4 saturday if all goes well. #3- get at least 3-4 yoga classes in, maybe daily. #4- 3 bike rides in. #5- NOT GET A full blown SINUS INFECTION. #6-10 are the same as #1 and #5. PS- I think the yoga is helping my ITBS and my hip problems. I didn't have very much pain last night while I slept. PPS- If I am feeling well, I want to try the biking before I run to see if it really helps with a more rapid leg turnover. I may have to wait a bit for this experiment. Michelle mentioned that it also might be helping me as it warms up the legs so I can get right into a better pace. Hmmmm, a lot to think about as I relax while the troops are are church :) Oh crud, only one more hour until the invasion occurs ;) PPPS- I found a new stretch for ITBS. IT'a a long article, but the description of the stretchis good, if you can follow it along ;) It's called Walt Reynolds's ITB Special

71 minutes of yoga. This class was short so I added some extra poses at the end to get my stinky hips ;D I am hoping for a run this morning. Currently it's 4:40 am. I forgot that Sudafed won't let me sleep :( I figured if I can't sleep, may as well get some yoga in ;)

1.75 miles on the treadmill. My knee started to squak so I hopped off ;) YEAH- Dr Brady is getting me in today at noon! YEe HaW!!! Let the torture begin ;D ***Dr report. YOW-za! My hip is a mess. I had 6 needles sticking out of my bum/hip region by the end of the appointment. The hip portion of my injury is going to be better fast :) The ITBS may take a bit longer, but he thinks I will be running again in 2 weeks for sure, and back to normal mileage by 4-8 weeks. No running at all for 1-2 weeks. My ITB was the very worst mid thigh and then my hips were a total disaster. I am cleared for all the yoga, biking and swimming I want :) Maybe I will go get the monthly pass at the hotel for the next month just so I can kick my bum a bit in the pool. Maybe I'll get brave and swim in the reservoir with Michelle. I need a wet suit. As I sit here, my bum is throbbing. I need lunch. I am STARVED!!!

As I was leaving I ran into Luz :) We chatted and then I headed over to meet Michelle at Red Mango. YUMMY!!!! See how this day is the BEST DAY EVER. Well it even gets better. I happened to be over at the school just in time to hear President Obama's speech at the elementary school. It was BRILLIANT!!!! I am SO glad that I heard it myself. My hip is still killing me. OK, it is not KILLING me, but it is
BUGGING the CRAP out of me! Oh wait, not really, because when I don't
run I get so constipated that I can't see straight!!!! I am not sure
what my problem is. I hope Brady clears me for running tomorrow,
but it may be another week. ARGH.... I am feeling a little
Eeyore-esque today. Ho hum, don't mind me. I need a 10 miler to kick
my booty into gear. No wait, maybe if I do laundry for 72 hours
straight I will feel the love ;)

72 minutes yoga. Fall is here. I used to LOVE the Fall when I weighed a lot more. I have been FROZEN for 2 days now. I would be in love with fall if I didn't know that WINTER was coming to try to freeze me to DEATH!!! Plus, our furnace is DEAD and we need to get a new one asap. I really don't want to pay for a new furnace :( I'd better get in the shower and then call the furnace guys. Does anyone have a furnace guy they like???
Opening up to gratitude
Skill Level: Novice Style: Kundalini Focus: Full Body, Grounding, Twists, Ailment Specific, Chakras Length: 51:18 Instructor: Sarah Kline
The aim of yoga is to open up completely: physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually in order to receive. Set an intention to give and receive thanks in your life in this introductory sequence with Sarah. Rather than letting your mind shift to thoughts of outward appearance and display in postures, keep your focus on your breath and find inner awareness that leads to gratitude. Appointment with Dr Brady- I am off running for at least another week, possibly up to 4-6 :( I am going a bit bonkers. He is not sure why my hip is not chilling out. He wants me on ibuprofen for 3 days. If it causes water retention, like it has in the past, I must go off.
| Comments(20) |
| | The furnace guy just left. I am feeling better about having to get a new furnace. :) I will be WARM!!! I am off to do an hour of yoga. Dr Brady said at least one more week off of running. I am pretty depressed about the whole thing. He said it could be as long as 4-6 weeks since my hip is not getting over it's self. He has me taking Ibuprofen for 3 days and then off. If I start to retain water then he wants me off asap. It all will take longer to heal without the anti inflammatories, but my kidney health is #1. Yesterday I ate my sorrows away, so today I am up from that, but I will be perfect through the next three days to make sure any weight gain is NOT from a binge of mine. I am still SO happy about my weight. I realize that for you skinny (short) runners, I weigh a TON, but for me, I am a twiglett ;) Having been 255.5 lbs, and now to be less than when I even got married, it SO huge for me :) We are going to have to change David's nick name to Single D ;) I guess there are still 2, so that would be a double D ;) Hmmmm.... I need to call Brady to see if I can bike. He was so surprised that my hip was not better and I was so stumped on the no running, that I forgot to ask if I could still bike. I do have to say that I really am liking being SO lazy and not getting up early. It scares me at how used to sleeping in I have gotten ;)
