11:33 ave  HOT outside.  I'll write more why I have not been running lately.

I mentioned last tuesday that I was having pretty good chest pain.  Anyhoots, early Thursday morning, about 1am, I woke up with the severe chest pain again.  By 4:30am, I was in a tremendous amount of pain.  David took me to the ER.  The rushed me back and hooked me up to all of the machines.  Fortunately, the pain kept up for all of the tests.  They all came back negative for heat attack. Yipee :)  Once they told me my heart was fine, I begged them to let me go.  The Doc told me that I have costochondritis.  Basically it is an inflammation of the joints in my ribs attaching to my sternum.   After seeing a few other doc's, it looks like there is a problem in my spine, most likely arthritis.  Finally, today I am feeling all back to normal :)  I have been on anti-inflammatory and strict rest.  Since I felt so good today, I tried out the running.  If all goes well tonight, I'll run in the morning.

Holy Moly girl! Really? How crazy, random and well, I'm glad they at least figured it out and it WASNT a heart attack...you had me worried!

I'm glad you felt good today and got the nice hot run in!

From seeaprilrun on Tue, Apr 20, 2010 at 00:40:46 from 205.172.12.229

Oh geez Marion how scary! I am very glad that it was not a heart attack or heat stroke. Look at you though, already back at it!

From KP on Tue, Apr 20, 2010 at 00:45:38 from 98.67.110.134

Marion, I have the same thing (costochondritis). I was diagnosed about a year ago, or so. It can be VERY painful and frustrating at times. My doctor told me that it really has no cure. Were you told otherwise? I was given the same medicine. I am obsessive about NOT taking meds. I pretty much have to be knocking on deaths door before I will. So, I only take them if I feel like I'm dying. It's an interesting battle. I've had it for years and finally broke down and went to the doc when it seemed to be getting worse. The pain comes and goes. I haven't been able to find a rhyme or reason to when and why it appears. I just try to work through it. Just FYI, you can totally still run with it. I do all the time. Good luck on finding info out about it, and please share with me if you see anything interesting.

Good news. When I fell down the stairs and hurt my ribs they wanted to make sure my chest pains weren't a heart attack.

From marion on Tue, Apr 20, 2010 at 01:03:54 from 71.213.114.98

Thanks everybody :) I was super surprised how much it hurt, but I knew that I felt fine, other than the chest pain. I was thinking that a heart attack would maybe make me feel sick of change my coloring or something :)

April, my marathon winning friend!!- can you get heat stroke in the middle of the night??? in 35 degree weather???

KP- the only thing I have learned is that the chiropractor can help. I had RA as a kid and am really hoping this is not the beginning of a life with RA :p I am going to chill. I tend to get super hypochondriac about my pains :) Please let me know anything you know about it too :) Knowledge is POWER :)

That must have been scary. Sorry you've been going through all this. Just think, though, how much better your body will be able to cope with things now that you are an athlete instead of an overweight couch potato.

From marion on Tue, Apr 20, 2010 at 10:51:27 from 71.213.114.98

Hey Miles!!! Yes, it was WAY scary :(::: With such a strong family history of heart disease, I was especially anxious. YES, being an athlete is WAY better than the fat couch potato! Although, I still do have fantasies about eating cheeseburgers, cheese fries and other terrible things far too frequently ;)

Burt- falling down the staris SUCKS!!

Marion, you scared me! I'm glad you guys were smart enough to go in to the ER even though you didn't think it was actually your heart!

From Carolyn in Colorado on Tue, Apr 20, 2010 at 12:53:41 from 24.8.167.243

Yikes, Marion! That was scary. I'm glad you're feeling better and are able to run. Hooray for being an athlete!

From Metcalf Running on Wed, Apr 21, 2010 at 10:09:53 from 207.225.192.66

Marion, so sorry to hear that you have been having so much trouble. But I think knowing what the problem is... is half the battle. I'm glad that you are running and feeling a bit better!!
