What a GLORIOUS run! I warmed up on the treadmill walking, then stretched and then headed out. It was SO nice out. I was really naughty and ran 4 miles. My knee was fine until the end o mile 3. It got really mad at me, so I stopped and stretched my hips really well. The knee behaved for the next half mile with a little squawking at 3.5 miles. I stretched again and ran home and stretched some more. Happy New Year!!! *** Adventures in sledding with Michelle & Luz Some say
that sledding is fun. Some say that sledding is dangerous and only for
the fools of the world. I say that I am an idiot and sledding is
fun... if you don't get hurt! I took my first run, in probably 20
years, down a road that is closed in the winter due to its steep
slope. The locals of Woodland Hills use it for sledding, I'd say
ultimate sledding. I was on Ben's little blue saucer. Well, I immediately
ended up sledding backwards. About half way down the hill, on one side,
there is a HUGE jump. I hit the jump pretty square on, getting some
serious air landing pretty flat with a little accent on my left sits
bone... OUCH! The teenagers just below the jump looked at me in awe,
probably wondering if I was going to burst into tears. I just gave
them a thumbs up, they cheered and I went the rest of the way down. At
the bottom, there is a little snow ridge, made for stopping, that I
just plowed through onto the road below, STILL BACKWARDS! Even though
I was on the asphalt, I was still moving FAST. The only thing I could
think of to do to stop, was to just flatten myself out. This
eventually stopped me, but my coat is pretty trashed. I am very glad I
had on a fur lined suede coat, or I'd have some good road rash. Oh the
joys of a family outing :) I am feeling OK right now, except it really
hurts to sit, or stand, or bend. I can't wait to see what tomorrow
brings :) Life is good! Oh, and I did do more sledding runs. My
husband watched my whole first run and was pretty sure I was finished
for the day after the jump, but no not me! I need to learn how to ski! |

| | 1/2 mile warm up, stretch. 3+ miles on the treadmill. Stretch, roll, abs, stretch. No knee pain at all. I am going to do at least three miles a day next week, so long as there is no pain.
My bum is still sore today, but not worse than last night. I can't sit on a hard surface well, but the sofa is okee dokee. I must purge my house of all of the holiday crap. Tomorrow is going to be far better than today, after all it has no mistakes in it yet ;D I am very pooped out. I don't do well with company at my house. I really would like to have another day after tomorrow with nobody coming over. I love my family and I love to have them over, but I can feel that I really need a day to just lounge around and now worry about anybody. I've had migraines straight since Wednesday :(

At about 3.5 miles, my knee was a bit squawkie but never got mad enough for me to stop and stretch :) I was supposed to do only 3 but just felt like doing 4, so I did :p I ran to Walmart and back. Oh, I did switch sides of the road when my knee got upset. I think that it might be a piece in this puzzle. I am going to run the opposite tomorrow and see what happens.

I have also decided that running is the sport of the Gods. I love it. I love it. I love it! Would you please bookmark this page to remind me this the day before my 20 miler late this summer?? xoxox

1/4 mile warm up on the treadmill. stretch. 4 mile run ave10:42 Laps-11:29,10:34, 10:23, 10:22. Stretch The run felt AMAZING! I am in love with being outside. The valley to the south west of pasyon was indescribable! It was laced with pink, blue and gray clouds and mountain silhouettes. I am in awe of the beauty all around me. Oh, I tried the pre-tape ITB wrap that Teena told me about. It seemed to be good stuff. Next week I will attempt 4 miles a day. If that goes well, the next week I'll throw in a few 5's :) Life may return to normal after all!

| | I warmed up on the treadmill then stretched. I ran the Onion Day's 5k route backwards from my house. I prefer it backwards. When I run it regular, it gives me an anxiety attack. I stretched at home and am now stinking up the couch blogging :) I am thinking about doing a 5k time trial with Michelle tomorrow. I want to, to see if Painters 5k is a good idea. If there were no Painters, I would postpone a time trial until the end of the month. So, I think I should do the time trial at the the end of the month. This will give my legs all the time they need to make sure they are healed/healing. So for my run with Michelle, I will just have to torture her will the uber-Granny Marion Pace :) Ave 11:22. Laps- 11:00, 11:09, 11:46, 11:26. Running this the race direction has forced me to skip the fact that the first mile is slightly down hill and mile 2 is a little more down hill. Very interesting. this will help me plan my race a bit better in the future :) |

| | 1/4 mile warm up on the treadmill. Stretch. Ran with Michelle. she pushed by 4 year old in the stroller while we ran at non-stellar granny pace, aka my pace :) We ran too far because I forgot about the little loop to drop off my 8 year old's glasses at school. It felt tired this morning. I think that I really prefer the afternoon runs to the morning ones... although I prefer any with run Michelle :D

| | My hips really squawked when I stretched today so I decided to do little miles and am going to go and stretch the tar out of my hip region this evening. Running would probably be fine, but they were so whiny that I figure I will just cut them some slack. I just registered for the Provo city half May 1, the memorial and Pioneer day 10ks at run13.com. Michelle and I are signed up for both. let's all do them and wear the colors! RHPC forever!!!

| | Cleaned house to warm up :) Stretched really good :) I was feeling kinda naughty so I ran 5, 11:56 pace. I had to walk backwards down a steep down hill and run in about 4"+ of snow/ice for about .1 mile. It felt really good and maybe a smidgen of a niggle in my knee, but nothing much at all. I am all hydrated so now I am going to stretch :) |

| | I was lucky enough to be able to run with Luz today. I imposed a nice slow run oh her :) We met at her house and just popped onto the PRT for another indulgent 5 miler. I stretched really well at Luz's home before we left and we did another stretch session at the 2.5 mark. We stretched at Luz's home afterwords as well. It was SO fun to be with her and chat. I may have to impose myself on her more frequently, for her sake of course :) It's always good for the speedy chicks to have a nice slow run for recovery and healths sake. I am happy to offer my services :) THANKS LUZ! You are the BEST! Sorry you were late to work :( Our talk was SO good though :)

| | 2 miles. My whole lower half was like a whiny teenager today. Everything was squawking and acting like a teenage who does not want to go to the family reunion. Nobody really ended up in a full fledged temper tantrum, but I was ready to spank a few parts ;) I thought about not running, but I felt really good about two miles, so I did it. I don't think anything is injured, just sort of ticked that I ran so much the last few days. they will get over it :) I can really feel the fatigue from the last two five mile days. David, and my two oldest girls just got home from 3 days at youth conference at Aspen Grove. They had a GREAT time and I am glad that they are home :)
| |
| | Stretched well. Ran 4 miles outside (45:16-12:03, 11:18, 11:33, 10:22) Stretched. there was no discomfort running today :) My hip was a little whiny when I first started to stretch. I think it might be the psoas and piriformis, possible the ham attachment. It's really deep and hard for me to touch. Oh and my right foot was squawking at mile 3 on the ball. Man oh man :)

| | 1/4 mile warm up on the treadmill. 4 mile run on the dread mill (11:50 pace). All the parts seemed to be ok today. The right hip flexor, right ham insertion point, and right knee itb insertion points were the only buggers today. Not too bad at all, just present. I scraped a ton over the past few days. I will scrape again tonight. |

Jennie will be at Painters doing the 5k. She told me today that her running partner is on a running cruise. I want to do it next year :) She thinks it's about 10 days and around the Bahamas :) Sounds PERFECT! At every port there is a 3-10 mile run planned and marked with guides. I think I am in heaven!!!

I have a time trial tomorrow. I was going to run, but was talking to Michelle and she sugested that I run less. I have thought about it, and I am going to skip it all together. I did an hour of yoga this morning. I'll do more tonight. I want all of the parts happy for the time trial. This recovery thing has me SO paranoid that I am really second guessing myself. This month, I am going to stick with 24-30 miles. I have decided to forgo the 1/2 in Riverton this year. I want to come back SO slow that there is no chance of ruining the fall marathon. Well, 87% of a chance. I have recommitted myself to a better yoga practice. Man, life is too complicated some times :)

I woke up at 7 and had a chocolate banana smoothie. I went to Orem for a meeting and then rushed back to meet Michelle for the time trial. We did a short warm up and stretch and then rant the onion days 5k route backwards. The first mile was ok. Mile two was tough and mile three was a bugger :p This was the closest to throwing up that I have ever come :) We ran home and that was HARD. I am hoping to get another mile in today. Oh, this is a BIG pr for me :) I was shooting for a sub 29. I am very excited about it. It is also my first 8 mm mile in a "race."

I felt tired today. No problems at all with my itb lately. My little stretching/scraping/rolling routine might be doing the trick. I'd better get to the stretching. | | I met Jennie in Salem for a run at 8. When I looked at our pace, it was mainly 11:30. It took us 59 minutes, but we walked a few times. Sweet Jennie hasn't run 5 in a while, so we took it easy. I am guessing that we were going a bit faster than 11:30. Anyway, it was SUPER fun to run with Jennie. We picked up a stray dog on the run. It followed us for 3.5 miles, about. It was running in front of cars and causing all kinds of trouble. Drivers were not happy. We mouthed on several occasions that it was not our dog. It was a cute dog. I wonder if it's home or been hit by now..... |

I got to run with my friend Chrisanne today :) It was SO fun :) she had to run her first 10 miler today. She ran 3 to my house and then I ran her out to the dump and back for 7. She did GREAT! I forced some shot blocks down her at her 7 mile mark. I also made her speed up for the last .2 of the run. She's awesome. She's also my son's kindergarten teacher.

If you don't, you'll just keep thinking about it." She's so smart. It was snowing for the run. The temps were between 35 and 39. It was probably colder out in the fields. this run is a gradual down hill and then a gradual up hill back home. It's a big loop with the onion days 10k in the middle. I felt tired from 5.5 miles on. I never got the "I AM DONE" feeling. As you can see by the last mile, I still had some juice, and burned it all out on the last mile. Why leave anything in the tanks with a rest day tomorrow :) I need to eat. It's 4:42 and I never had lunch, waiting to get out to run first. How lame am I??

I am so excited for warmer weather, so the mornings are more bearable :) I did not take my garmin, but according to the clock, it took about 55-56 minutes. My joints complained a bit, in the first half mile. I think they were just mad to be up and running. the babies! |

Ran outside. The head wind was COLD! I was really farting around on my run. One mile from home, I realized that I'd need to hustle the last mile to make it under an hour. I ran the last mile in 9:56. I was at 49 minutes at mile 4 :(. Anyway, I needed a slow day. Tomorrow should be 7-8 miles. |

What a GREAT day! We started the day with Michelle's sons baptism :) We had a yummy lunch at Michelle's. It was so much fun to meet much of their families. Next I popped into a bay shower then I met KimR for a run. Was supposed to do only 7, but 8+ worked better :)
I had questioned Michelle and Smooth about a tempo pace for myself. I think that todays run answered the question for myself. If I can do 8 miles at 10:38 without much of a problem.....I am going to do the 10mm pace on my Wed tempo's. I will start this wednesday. |

So here is my first attempt, this season, at a tempo run :) I tried really hard to make my first mile SLOW, but my legs are just a bit naughty! My 10:03 is in homage to Carolyn :) The goal for the tempo was 10mm. The course was as flat as it gets around here :) Two puppies ran with/followed me for almost my whole tempo, much to my annoyance and that of the drivers on the narrow highway I was running on. One of them finally got hit by a van :( I was done with my tempo at this point. I didn’t know what to do, so I just ran home. The other dog turned back just as we were coming to the police station, where I was planning on turning him in.
The last mile felt REALLY slow. As for the tempo, it was uncomfortably easy or comfortably hard :) I was glad to slow down for the last mile :) Next week, I’ll add a half mile to the tempo. I am in no hurry… ;D I eventually want to have an 8 mile run on Wednesdays with a 6 mile tempo in the middle :) |

5 mystery miles outside in the COLD 30 degree cloudy weather. I got a bit of sun in my face for the last .2 miles :) I left the garmin at home. The pace felt slow, but that was the plan :) I was quite fatigued for the last .75. I was ready to be done. I am going to take that as a good sign. I must have done a good job with my tempo. Hard enough to make the last mile of today’s run not perfect, but easy enough that running the first 4.25 felt good and normal :) Am I interpreting this correctly??? |

I had to keep slowing myself down ;)
I really hate mile three. It is HORRIBLE! The first two miles are a net up hill. When mile 3 hits, it has 3 little, steep, uphills that are just in the worst spot.
I had the WORST side ache in mile 5. I had some water at mile 1 when I took a potty break at the high school. I am guessing that my body didn't like it??? |

I had to run it short due to an overwhelming desire to toss my cookies for the whole run :p I don't think I am sick, it was just early...maybe....
I posted this last thursday, but I think I must have clicked the course tool before I published, but, my right knee has been bothering me when I sit cross legged. It was very irritated after thursdays long run. I didn't run fri and sat and iced it well to give it a rest. The knee does not bother me when I run or walk, just when I cross my right ankle over my left knee or sit cross legged. anyhoots, I think it has to do with one of the stretched I have been doing for my hips= the one legged king pigeon. I am going to skip that this week and see what happens :) |

Lovely tempo run with KimR :) There were NO VPB's :D The run was perfectly comfortably hard, just as Smooth prescribed :) Next week I will go for five miles at the 10mm tempo pace. The goal is still to get to a six mile tempo inside an 8 mile run mid week. Over the summer I plan to decrease the time to 9:30. We shall see how it goes :) Kim is a much faster runner than I am, and she found this run challenging. It made me feel good that my fitness is not that much behind hers :) She is my hero!

Nice flat run with Jennie in Salem. the first two miles were ~10:45. the third mile was a mystery as I had to remove a pebble from my shoe :(. The last two miles were ~10:30. It felt good. I was REALLY grumpy when I woke up this morning. The run fixed it :)
The blood and guts of the turtle cake are done :) So is the skin/shell. To explain, the blood and guts are a red velvet cake and the skin and shell are 3 batches of fondant. I'll post the pics tomorrow or Saturday. The best thing about doing a turtle cake is that if it does not work, we can just call it road kill! |

Ford wanted a turtle cake and I think this is not too bad ;) At about 7:30 this morning I was cursing and getting ready to toss the poor thing out into the road. The platter that it is on is 18". This is a very big turtle. The cake is blood red velvet. It should be pretty exciting for a 9 year old ;D

Great run with KimR. The last 2 miles were not my favorite :p My ITB started bugging at 11.5 miles. I am going to stretch some more and then take an ice bath before I lose my nerve. My feet started to bug after about mile 9. We were really glad that the street was not hot ;D |

| | This run was probably a bit longer than 4. My knee complained a bit for about a 1/2 of a block first off. The legs were tired. I was planning on 5, but at the 2 mile mark, I was pretty pooped and just turned around. I think 5 would have been ok, but mile 3, if I would have gone for the five, is a HUGE JERK and I did not feel like sucking it up today. I took me about 43 minutes, but I really am not sure. No garmin ;D |

Mile five was pretty calm. My knee is still complaining. It is fine for the runs, it just seems achy with certain moves and maybe feels a titch swollen. I'm not sure what to think. I'll just keep stretching, rolling and icing and see where we are next week.

The moon was peaking it's face out from behind dots of clouds strewn across the dark sky. Yes, I am feeling a little poetic this morning. Hopefully I am spelling correctly ;)
56 minutes for my run. Not too bad for an early morning run, 13 hours from my last run. I have an appointment with Brady for next week. My knee is not getting worse at all, it is just not getting any better either. I'm off to buy some new running shoes :D Best day ever!! |

For the last mile I could run in the road and then hit the sl-ice-sh while cars passed. I also had to take another VPB, which is irritating :p Oh, I saw Brady on Monday. he thinks my knee is no big deal. I can still run! HIP HIP Hooray!!! He wants to me to lay off some of my hip stretches and then see him in two weeks.

met KimR at 7 for a LONG run. Not too bad of a pace considering that there was a bit of walking here and there :) I actually had 2:29 on my garmin, but I forgot to turn it off at Kim's potty stop at IFA. It was a good 5-7 minutes there ;D My legs were TRASHED from the bike ride. They weren't sore, just really not in the mood for a long run. We took turns telling eachother the story lines of movies we had just seen. It worked well.
Shot blocks make me sick. No more of them.
I got my new shoes today :)
My ITB twinged at mile 8 and at mile 11.5, full on cried like a 4 year old at Target who is not getting the $15 dollar toy he wants when he is only alowed at $2 toy! (yes, that happened today :). We just ran slower and it was ok. I called Brady and will see him on Monday. HE wants me to ice it for the weekend.
I don't know if any of this is spelled correctly, I am too tired to check. I need to do a 10 second tidy on the house. It's a wreck!
My shower is broken, so I have to shower in the dungeon (how do you spell dungeon??). It will be 10-14 days for the part to come :( I may have to remodel the dungeon bathroom asap. It is HIDEOUS!!! You'd think at some point even a teenager would break down and clean it. Man oh man, shower curtains hide a lot! |

Weird weird weird! All night long I had sharp chest pain. I got up at 6 am to go run. When I moved the pain was worse. I was pretty freaked out and I tried to figure out what I should do. I thought about what they would do in the ER. The first thing they do, or one of them, is to give antacids to make sure it is not heartburn. I took a hand full of tums. The pain did not go away, but the sharpness dulled instantly :) I am guessing that it was just some freak heartburn? I was too afraid to run, in case it was more sinister. I guess this is about a 6 on the lame skip running scale.

This baby was hard. Mile 4 was terrible! There was suddenly this head wind and a gradual up hill. When we started mile 5 our lap pace was 10:38 and I was TICKED/heartbroken. I was so sad that we would not get in a good tempo. I tried to give the garmen to KimR to finish the temop without POKEY me! She wouldn't take it and LOOK, we pulled it out! The tempo average was PERFECT! the goal was a 10mm, 5 mile tempo! :)
I am SO glad tha Kim was there with me :) I am also really glad that we stashed some water after our 1 mile warm up to get at the end of the temop. It is in the high 50's and I am a happy camper!!! |

11:33 ave HOT outside. I'll write more why I have not been running lately. I mentioned last tuesday that I was having pretty good chest pain. Anyhoots, early Thursday morning, about 1am, I woke up with the severe chest pain again. By 4:30am, I was in a tremendous amount of pain. David took me to the ER. The rushed me back and hooked me up to all of the machines. Fortunately, the pain kept up for all of the tests. They all came back negative for heat attack. Yipee :) Once they told me my heart was fine, I begged them to let me go. The Doc told me that I have costochondritis. Basically it is an inflammation of the joints in my ribs attaching to my sternum. After seeing a few other doc's, it looks like there is a problem in my spine, most likely arthritis. Finally, today I am feeling all back to normal :) I have been on anti-inflammatory and strict rest. Since I felt so good today, I tried out the running. If all goes well tonight, I'll run in the morning.

suckiest run EVER! AND, my browser shut down mid blogging and I lost all of my GREAT whiny details :p I'll see if I can squeeze a bit more wine out of me ;D
This was supposed to be a 7 mile run with a 5 mile tempo in the middle. Well, when the warm up was bad, I should have guessed that this was not going to fly. Mile one of the tempo, 10:05, not what I wanted, but all that there was in my tanks. Mile 2, 10:01, better, maybe this would be ok. Maybe I can do this tempo and the world will be right :) Did I mention the rain??? Light rain and breezy. Mile three, I am struggling to get this mile to a 10. Stupid shoe comes untied. I can't get the pace back. At the mid way, .5 of mile three, we turn around to come back, STRAIGHT INTO A STIFF HEAD WIND! It just plain knocks the guts out of me. I can't run a 10 to save my life, let alone with this bugger of a head wind. The worst part was that I couldn't run it even with a stiff tail wind, that had to have been there! So this really does a number on my head. I actually yell out, "You've got to be kidding me!!!" The farmers, if they were DUMB enough to be out in this weather, would have called the mental hospital! I am ticked. Well, we head east now, the wind is at our side. They said the storm/winds would be coming from the South. Not out there. North wind :p So nearly to mile 4 I hit a wall that was the size of Texas. I have hit the wall only a few time. this was more like a semi. I had to walk. It was like someone just popped my running balloon and I was a deflated soggy piece of rubber on the road. I told Kim to go, but she wouldn't. We walked/jogged home, all soggy and down trodden. Kim didn't mind too much, becasue she had more miles to go for the day. I am still ticked about this run and want some revenge. I'll get it on Saturday. Brady wants me to do at least 10. I'll do them at 10:30 to practice for the 1/2 next weekend.
Here is what the problem was....I think. I woke up at 7, shouted at my family to CLEAN THE HOUSE! We did for 2 hours until Kim came for me at 9. I forgot to eat breakfast :( I always eat 2 hours before a tempo. I always drink. I did nothing. I had a little water at 7 and then cleaned and vacuumed my house like a mad woman. I did not realize this until about mile 2. So I think my lesson is learned. I could have gu'd if it had dawned on me that I did not eat at all. I was going to modify my running to make sure I was doing ok and not get more chest pain for the 1/2, but Brady wants me to train like normal to see if I flare up again. We'll see :)

I wanted to go longer, but since it was so late in the afternoon, and we are doing 10 in the AM, I thought I should just be moderate :) I ate a good carb/protein balanced dinner. | | I have cut my points recently and my runs have really suffered, so I have created a new plan. I am going to divide my WPA differently than before. I am also going to up my daily points by 2. I changed the answer to number 5 on how I spend my day to 2. Any hoots, here is the plan, Sunday 30 (6 WPA), Monday 24 (0 WPA), Tuesday 28 (4 WPA), Wednesday 28 (4 WPA), Thursday 28 (4 WPA), Friday 32 (8 WPA) and Saturday 43 (19 WPA). This is a total of 35 WPA and 10 activity points used. I have a tempo on Wednesdays and a long run on Saturday. I am hoping that this will help me feel better. I'll do this for a few weeks and see if things improve. I'm also going to do my best to make sure that 95% of my points are REALLY good stuff. I've got to get the most bang for my buck if I am going to continue to train this hard and be able to feel good and lose weight.
| | SLOW run this morning. I didn't feel very good. Last week was my highest mileage week in a long time. I'll be that had something to do with it. My chest was really hurting a bunch. Significant back pain through the night. I'm not sure if it is just due to the work over from yesterday or yesterday was just the beginning of a flare up. I have a call into Brady. I skipped my run this morning as to not aggravate it, plus I was sleeping to make up for being awake for three hours in the middle of the night :p I'm cleaning the house right now. I figure some moving will do me good. I'll skip the vacuuming and save it for the girls ;)

Pretty good pain last night at work. I finally took some tylenol and that seemed to take the edge off of it. I took a lortab before bed. I slept well. The pain this morning was pretty good. No running today. I am going to have Anna work me over after school and then again tonight. I really need to run 2 miles the the next two days, each. I don't need much, but I tend to be faster with even a little running. I am really hoping to be pain free tomorrow and friday so I will know that Sat is going to be ok. I am trying to eat really well to make sure I am ready for Saturday.
The tri I was thinking about for june 5th is out. I am going to take a really low mile month and a 1/2. This costochondritis can last up to 3 months :( I am trying not to FREAK out, but I have been bursting in to tears intermittently. Oh man. stupid. Oh, and did I mention that all I can think about is chocolate??? Thank heavens Michelle is planning a chocolate feast for Saturday night :) Have I told you lately that I love you, Michelle????
I need to plan a healthy, low fat, low calorie, very good for me, birthday menu for tomorrow. I don't want to go nuts becasue I am saving the NUTS for Saturday. Nuts and chocolate....mmmmmmmmmmm.....
| | So, I have had a Festivus/Birthday miracle. I had very little discomfort through the night :) It's after lunch and still no real pain. Just a dull ache, which is a HUGE improvement! :) Here's hoping I have no pain tomorrow too :) I really want this 1/2 of Saturday! | |
| | Day two of feeling GREAT! Just a bit of residual soreness :) I can live with that. I was thinking about running, but I just don't want to risk it. I am REALLY excited about the half. | |

Somewhere around mile 9 my knee went ballistic and hurt enough to significantly change my form. My neuroma hurt from 6 on. At mile nine my chest pain went significantly up. Did I mention that it rained, hailed AND snowed? I didn't realize that my hands were frozen until at mile 9 I went to get two little Tylenol out of my tights pocket and it took me FOREVER. My hands had no dexterity. If this report sounds a bit whiney, it's because it is. I am finally warm, 2 hours after the finish and a HOT bath (all the water heater), soaked until the water heater reheated then took a shower until there was not more hot water again. This is a 2 minute PR for me, but I was really wanting to see those teens. It should have been a significantly faster race for me. Well, it is what it is and there is nothing I can do about it now.
My clothes are SOAKED. I am tired but need to keep moving for at least an hour before I take a nap and turn into a lump of lactic acid.
KimR- thanks for running the first three miles with me :) You are such a WONDERFUL friend. You did a GREAT job on such a TERRIBLE race day :p We are such fair weather runners :)
Thanks for the cheers, Luz and Alice. It was SO great to see happy faces and HOT chocolate :) xoxoxo Thanks Michelle for bringing me in :). Post race injury report ;) The chest is great :) I had Anna rub me down good after the race. I am thinking that this is the source of the chest conspiracy. I also think that the chest problems yesterday were partially due to the rain. I have been wearing only one sports bra lately. This has been fine, but when when bra gets wet, all of it's support is lost. I think that some of the pain/discomfort was exacerbated by lack of adequate restraint ;) Now for the knee. Yesterday there was some latent, residual pain. Today the ITB and surrounding knee is TICKED OFF!! I am icing it. I'll roll and scrape later. And for the fun random weird thing. I woke up this morning with my face all swollen. FUN! I have been itching like crazy and I guess I am allergic to something. I thought it was this med the doc gave me, but I have been off of it for 3 days. Who knows. I look totally stupid!
| |
| | Two slow miles. All the parts complained here and there. I just focused on running "normally" and relaxing. Nothing really hurt, just squawking ;) When I got home I did 65 minutes of yoga, sort of an Ashtanga/Vinyasa flow. Very slow and restorative. It felt REALLY good. I went to the doc for my rash. He has a few theories. For now he is treating my severe discomfort with prednisone. He gave me a shot in the office and then a prescription for the next 12 days. The assumption is that I am having a really good allergic reaction to something. I pretty much want to scratch my face and ears off, along with parts of my chest and legs. He wants to see me in 3-4 weeks and run some more tests. I'm not sure I want to. We shall see :) He said the shot would take the itch away in 60 minutes. It has been 5 hours and I am still ITCHY! He said I could double up on the Zyrtec. I am going to do that right now :)

3 slow miles on the treadmill. 65 minutes yoga. I am itching considerably less today :) The rashes are even looking better. The two Zyrtec I took last night, knocked me out pretty good :) I like that. The Prednisone gave me a bit of energy in the house cleaning arena this morning :) Whoo hoo!! ps- There was a lot less complaining of body parts on the run today :) It would have felt really good, if I had not been on the treadmill ;D

65 min Kundalini Yoga. Focus: Energize, Create & Inspire, Self Empowerment, Ailment Specific, Metabolism & Digestion, Stress Relief, Full Body, Twists, Chakras
It was a weird class, but it made me feel great :)
I am going to be taking the next 8 weeks really slow and easy. I am in some kind of immune system frenzie and need to relax a bit and give my body a chance to calm down. I am really looking forward to it!

The rest of the family is so upset and I am just SO MAD! We called the police and if they can find the dogs, they will cite the owners. Poor Thumps. He was such a GOOD bunny.

| | Adventure run, in honor of KimR's AWESOME marathon! I went out for six and decided I'd better do more to honor her 45 minute PR! YES, a FORTY FIVE minute PR! She is a ROCK STAR!! Anyway, I headed out onto the canal trail at the end of Payson and into Springlake. Well, about half way to Springlake, there was suddenly a guy with a chain saw in the trees off of the trail. I didn't see him, but I could hear him and I calmly freaked out. I was going to do an out and back on the trail and stick with 7, but I high tailed it to Springlake and decided to run out to the highway and home with TONS of cars and people as to avoid a possible chain saw massacre! The guy, or girl for that matter, was probably just cutting wood or something normal, but I have a vivid imagination and a chicken heart! So, on my way home on the highway for EVERYONE to see me, I needed a potty break..... BAD! No where for a VPB, so I had to walk for a bit less than a 1/2 mile. I ran again when it was "safe." So FINALLY I get to my friend, Jennifer's house to find no one home. I tried the door.... OPEN!! :) I go in to see they have a new HUGE black lab. Fortunately, he was friendly and let me use the very PRIVATE, well stocked bathroom with a sink and hand towels :) I made it home .1 mile short of 8 so I ran up the street a bit to get an even 8. |

2 fast miles. I had to head off to pick up the balloons for Kindergarten Graduation. Attend kindergarten graduation. Have a picnic with Michelle, JJ & my boys for kindergarten graduation at Salem Pond :) JJ caught his first fish! What a man. He graduates from kindergarten and catches a fish! Now I am reading Eclipse and trying to figure out how to spend date night. I want to go on a bike ride and David wants to dig out the garden. We'd both like to EAT and go to a movie and EAT! I really wish I could eat whatever I want and look how I'd like to look. Man, life is not fair!

| | I stepped on a rusty nail :( no run. I did drive myself to the Dr office for a tetanus shot :( |
| | Hoped for a run this morning but after discovering that walking is not too desirable, I nixed the run. Anna is graduating today and I have too much to do to be hobbling around :( ps- how do you tell your sentimental senior that she may be sad today, but once she gets going in college, high school will fad pretty quickly into the past....
| |
| | The foot is feeling better today. I am staying off of it as much as possible today. Here is hoping that the two miles I've got planned tomorrow feel OK ;) STUPID rusty nail!!! | |
| | I headed out to see how the heel would feel. It was at the very last edge of uncomfortable. I wouldn't say "painful". (David might say painful ;) Anyway, I could have run 5 miles on it, but I was worried that if I did, I'd not be able to run at all tomorrow. I guessed that if I saved the heel for one more day that it would be even more healed in the morning. AND if the running the 10k hurt it, I could live with the pain over the weekend :) so I came back home and tried to finish Breaking Dawn. I may have to just hunker down and no let my CHILDREN distract me ;) | |

Smile Center 10k (6.2 Miles) 01:03:03, Place overall: 104, Place in age division: 6
I am pretty happy about this race. This is a 6 and 1/2 minute PR for me :) I really want to see that 59:59 this year. I have 2 more 10k's planned, so there is a possibility :) The nailed foot was fine for the whole race and still is :) I guess I had the perfect amount of time to heal. Life is GOOD!!
Now about the race... The first three miles were fine. I felt strong and right on target for under a 10:30 pace. My garmin died right before start time, so I had to ask another runner who I was passing what pace she was running. I felt pretty good until the mile 4 marker. I REALLY wanted this to be mile 5. I an not sure where I thought there was another mile in there, but I was pretty dejected at the sight of mile 4. This mile was slower. In mile 5, I got a bit of a second wind and started passing the people I wanted to pass. In mile 6, they passed me back :( All of my energy was spent by mile 6. My legs were lead and not too happy to continue to run. I did anyway. I saw Michelle and the other speedies in the last 1/2 mile. Michelle gave me the GREAT news that she WON!! :D
I ran 3+ miles on the river trail afterwords.

| | Bad news. David fell from the roof last night and landed on the driveway. He has a few serious fractures. His calcaneus is pretty much shattered and his distal fibula is broken along with all of the ligaments that hold the ankle together. He will have surgery to put it all back together hopefully next Friday. We have to wait and see how it heals before they proceed. He has to be totally off of the leg with the foot elevated until the surgery and for at least two weeks after. Then he will be in a wheel chair or knee scooter for at least 12 weeks. Then I guess some kind of boot or somehting. They will screw the bones all back together and try to repair the joint as best they can. They will use bone grafts to fill in the parts where the bone fragments are too small to salvage. The doc is confident that they will get all of the ligaments back where they go. This surgery is very much a "we'll just have to see how it goes" kind of thing. He will hopefully be able to return to work in 3 weeks. Please pray that it all goes perfectly well. This type of surgery carries a high risk of bone infection along with many less than favorable outcomes.

| |
COuldn't sleep past 5. Needed to leave for surgery by 6:15 so I ran a quick 2.
The surgery went better than the doc had expected considering how bad the break was. They had a hard time getting his pain under control. Finally they gave him morphine but this caused him to stop breathing every time he fell asleep. After what seemed forever, they got the meds right and the pain under control. Everyone at TOSH was very nice. |

Mile one and two were TERRIBLE. Mile 3 was OK. I cried my eyes out for a quarter mile at the end of mile 3. Mile 4 and 5 were fine :) I was really mad for the first two miles and really happy I had gone for a run the last two.
Oh and some STUPID kids broke the windows out of my daughters car last night. The police said that there were a ton of vandalism last night. This happend in Spanish Fork last weekend and then the second night they slashed the tires. We are moving all of the cars into the yard tonight. I don't remember what I was saying :) Ok- I was still deciding what my plan was for the run in the first part of mile 2. I am very happy that I did this run. I have been feeling SO bad about my running. This was not easy, mile 4 was the worst, mile 5 was the easiest.

The goal was to run this at 11mm average or better. Goal accomplished :) I started this run at 9:15pm. I have never run at night before. A cop flipped around to check me out. He took off as soon as he could see that I was an old lady ;)
With about two miles to go, I turfed it. Splat! If it haddn't been pitch black, a bunch of loitering teens, would have had a good laugh ;) I ran it off. I have skinned hands, knees and a bump here and there. My left hip hurts and my right calf feels like it's pulled. I don't remember hitting my teeth, but they hurt. I did an ice bath as soon as I came in the door. Oh well. I'm pooped and I don't think I'll run at night again :P

| | 14 miles. The miles were not too bad. at mile 8 I made one of those tube bands for around my ITB. Seemed to work. Ice bath after. My ice bath appears to be in the 40's. a bit too cold. Anyway, upon rising after sitting for a while my right hip was VERY painful. It eased up after walking around for a while. It is fine this morning. Still not sure what to do about the marathon. I think I need to bail and just run casually but consistently. I have WAY too much stress right now and I am not sleeping, so I am not recovering like I should. | | got out at 5am to run so we could make it to the county swim finals on time for Ash...now affectionately known as Bad Ash! It was an AWESOME race :) The event was the 50 free. She came into the finals seated in the number one spot, but could she keep it??? She had a slow/bad start but was a full lengh ahead at the flip turn (25 yards). Her flip turn was crap and she lost her lead. She kicked it in high gear and caught back up just in time to power in and pull a "Michael Phelps" and out touch the leader. She beat the other swimmer by .03 seconds. Just in case you can't see the decimal, it was 3/100ths of a second!!! Can you tell we are a bit proud of her??? ;) Man, starts, flip turns, and finishes are where all the money is in swimming! ....unless you are as FAST as Ashley!!! ;D Her cousins are still swimming. One of them holds most of the county records. It's a good thing they are 5 years apart ;D |

Report.... Anna's Doc appt went well. Got her prescription called into pharmacy near campus :(
My doc does not think the lumps in my breasts are a problem but will let the mamogram confim his. He actually thinks they may be caused by my bras....
Cars STINK! I bawled no less than three times over the cars yesterday. One time infront of the owner of the garages son. They did not charge me labor :) I have never lost it before like that, but hey, car crap is David's job and I am at my wits end with managing the household on my own. Turns out I can fake "holding it together" for about 2.5 months than WHAMIE...I turn into a heap of hysteria.
I have taken a few weeks off of work and I am really glad. We had two weeks planed for vacation this summer, but with David's fall we had to cancel it all :( I suppose that I could have managed work these past two weeks, but with everything going on, I am glad I took it off. We have been able to do a few mini family trips around and that is nice. I REALLY miss work, but taking some time off is as close to a vacation as I am getting this year. My house is actually looking sort of clean... (that's a really LOSE definition of clean)
Sorry about the spelliing... Burt, could you please spell check for me. Off to do more chores to get ready to Anna's good bye party this evening :)....... :p .........or better yet....

| | quick run at 5:30 am. left knee did a "give out" thing at one mile... So I turned around and walked a little bit and then ran home with no problems. I figured better safe than sorry ;) Was going to ride yesterday but my bike tires were flat and the kids had cannibalized the bike pump. Need to take care of that today :) It's my Mac's 7th birthday today! He is such a sweet boy. His clavicle is healing great. The primary did a water slide thing at the park and poor Mac just had to watch. He seemed to have fun watching the kids. |

| | 45 minutes of yoga. 26 minute run. 10:24 ave. 10 minutes of yoga The run felt AWESOME!!! I wore my orthotics and I think I am going to have to keep wearing them. I had been not wearing them and the run and the period following the run has been crappy. Left knee was fine. I am guessing it was just a freak pain. |

| | Nice slow pre-conference run with the Mo-Tab. Actually just three songs, "The Lord Bless You and Keep you," "Consider the Lilies," and "This is the Christ." Just add in "Come Thou Fount" and I'd have all of my FAVORITE songs ever! Yes, there is a Molly hiding deep within. She wouldn't be so bad, but she has HORRIBLE taste in clothes! |

| | I'm not sure how to post this, but I got hit by a car today. I should be fine. The injuries seem to be superficial, but I am going in to the doc in a bit here for a thorough exam and x-rays. I feel like crap! Hopefully I'm just bumped and bruised :) |

| | back to work. I walked 1 mile, ran a slow mile and then walked another mile. Everything felt fine. Here's hoping it will keep feeling OK ;) I am feeling back to normal. I am freaked out to drive the car and walk outside. And besides the nightmares, everything is A-ok. |

| | I headed out of doors for my first time since the accident on the 6th. I walked Will to pre-school, then headed up to Main Street. At the mile mark I ran. The walking seems to be be a bit bothersome to my quads. The right was bugging last night on the treadmill and today the left was whining. The running felt fine. I walked until the 1/2 mile mark from my house and had to run home because the walking was making my feet fall asleep. I was only planning 1 mile of running but it turned into 1.5. My sweet neighbor Richard, gave me 2 apples from his apple stand on my way home. Yummy treat! I am planning probably 2 more trips to the chiropractor, as my back is still a bit off. The muscle relaxants and the deep tissue massage(gift from KimR) have really made a HUGE difference! |

| | After my run tuesday my whole pelvic area was not happy. I am not sure exactly what was hurting. I took a muscle relaxant and went to bed. Wednesday morning I felt better so I went ahead with the walk/run plan. Just a little twinge here and there. Michelle came over to do it with me. She even pushed the jogger stroller with Will in it. There was no pelvic discomfort so I was not too worried. The bottom of my feet hurt when I walked. Running was more comfortable. Very shortly after I got home my pelvic region was on fire. Again, I can't say what exactly was hurting. My SI joint, my hip flexors. Just a mess. I have appointment with Brady today (thursday, I am posting late). Hopefully it is nothing that a few adjustments and a-stem can't fix. On a lighter note, Michelle and I had a GREAT time! My friend Richard, gave us our apple and we ate them while we walked. Mac passed us in her car while we were walking up a hill, each with one hand on the stroller so we could eat our apples. It had to look pretty funny. |

| | Goose Egg for today. I just got back from the doc. He is quite confident that there are no breaks at all. The pain is from going back to quickly. There were/are sprains and injuries in my hips, back and legs that are not healed all the way and when I ran on them, even walking, just inflamed them all and threw them into a dither. He's going to work me over for a few weeks to get back into shape and then I can run in two weeks. I can bike, swim, or elliptical. I'm gonna do some yoga right now and then ellipt at Michelle's. She doesn't know that yet, but she will and I'm guessing she'll be THRILLED!!!! | |
| | 30 min elliptical at Michelle's. Everything felt GREAT so I will try 60 minutes tomorrow!! :) Yoga too!! My hips feel MUCH better today :) |
| | 60 min on the elliptical at Michelle's. No problems at all. I am thinking that I need to get an elliptical. It would be a very practical piece of equipment to have. |
| | Treadmill. 1 mile walk. .5 mile jog. 1 mile walk. It felt good. No pain afterwards :) Good sign! I get to do it again on Wednesday. Here's hoping it all goes forward nice and BORING!!! |

| | Well, no more running, for a bit anyway :( I woke up tuesday morning with very significant lower back pain :p The hips felt on, just LOADS of pain in the lower back. I have never had lower back pain at all. Doc said, just need a bit more time to heal. He did acupuncture. I am trying to not be discouraged, but I am ready to be back to normal. The pain was down on Wednesday and down still more today. I spent most of yesterday in bed. I would have liked to stay in bed on Tuesday, but I had to teach a class for church. It was ok. I took some ibuprofin and that helped. At least I did not have the same all over hip pain like I did 2 weeks ago. Hopefully that means the hips are healed :) My wish/hope is that the lower back pain is just from it not quite being healed yet. Please don't tell me all the serious things that it could be. If it recurs again after walking next week, then I am off to a doc for an MRI. CRAP!!! |
| | 30 minutes VERY gentle yoga :) Felt good. My back was a good 5 for pain today. I think my church bag is too heavy. ;p |
| | Back pain is about a 2-3 today :) 30 min VERY gentle yoga. I am getting a stationary bike tomorrow :) I sure hope that it doesn't hurt anything :\ I am resigning myself to the fact that running is going to be a bit further out that I had thought :( I'm trying to focus on a good solid recovery. I'll talk to the doc on wed, but I am hoping that the St George Marathon is a good reasonable goal for next year. 3rd times a charm, I'm in for sure ;D At this point I don't think the UVM will work. Who knows. I've got to just chill and let my body recover and focus on the things that I can do :) I am alive. I can walk. I can do some modified yoga :) We shall see about the bike soon :) I need to trim down my church bag. | |
| | Drama, drama, drama! I have 2 dislocated ribs :p On the bright side, I GOT A STATIONARY BIKE!!! I am SO excited!!!! Hopefully next week i can ride it. I do to the doc tomorrow. Hopefully he'll clear me for the bike :) | |
| | 10 min on the stationary bike. BAck feeling better |
| | 20 min on bike. back much better. Doc told me on fri that I can run next week :) ...and bike MUCH more !!! :) I'm pretty sure that I am going to do UVM. I need a focus and a goal. |
| | 35 min stationary bike. Too afraid to go bike outside :( 30 min yoga :) Everything feels pretty good today. If I am still good in the morning, I'll bike 30, run .5miles and then do 30 min yoga. PRAY FOR GOOD! | |

It felt SO good to kick my bum! The back and neck have been doing well. :) My left knee that was hit by the car was weird yesterday. I am hoping it's nothing :) |

1/4 mile walk warm up. 1.5 mile run (11:45 ave). 1/4 mile walk cool down. all treadmill. 10 min yoga. no physical problems. My fingers are crossed :) I had a few flashes of getting hit while running. The flashes are getting better, less frequent. It still brings me to tears, but that is getting better too. It was scary as all get out to run through that intersection on monday, but in both directions, drivers stopped and waved me through. I suppose I just need to keep at it and it will get better. I haven't cried for a long time when I am driving, so that must be a good sign :)

| | WARNING...Don't read this if you are looking for some sunshine. VERY BAD MOOD! :( My back was buggin' last Thursday so I took it easy. I headed out to run Friday morning and it HURT! I circled around, came home and headed over to Dr. Brady. The weekend was BAD :( Monday at work was terrible. A member came up to me after the meeting and asked if I was OK. I thought I was faking pretty good, but she said I was walking a bit off. She's an athlete and recognized the weird walk. I have been SO upset :(:::....... Yesterday Brady took a large portion of my appointment assuring me that I will get better. He is 100% certain that I will have a full recovery, but it can take 3-6 months to recover from getting slammed by a car. I am trying to chill. I haven't cried today. I might just swim and do yoga for the next three months. I am pretty beat and downtrodden. Ok, I may have to cry today. I'm getting a bit ticked off. Now to go fix dinner for the troops. Put on the smile and suck it up! Oh crap! I have a choir rehearsal in an hour.... | |
| |
6 am yoga practice. 60 minutes. It felt GREAT! :) So far the back fells good. Hopefully it will embrace the yoga and I can heal. Christmas was nice. this slow recovery crap is really getting to me. I'm doing little bits here and there. A little yoga, a little treadmill walking. I even biked a little yesterday (I'm not supposed to bike). I'm in need of a basic steady plan, but I have to tweak it depending on how the back feels :p I like things to be the same everyday. I don't do well with all of this "flexibility" ... "listen to your body" CRAP! I need routine. I need to be able to vacuum with out ending up flat on the floor for an hour while the spasms subside. AND to top it all off, is scares the CRAP out of me to even think about running outside. sorry for the whine. This is my whine spot. I have to put on a chipper face everywhere else. My Polly Anna has been hijacked and it looks like the hijackers are slowly suffocating her. I suppose the worst part is that I feel like I can't DO anything. I just have to wait and let my back heal. AND, without running, how can I know if the knee that was hit by the cars bumper is injured? Things I can control....... what I eat. No more eating like a lumber jack. I may not be as active as I'd like, but I can STOP eating enough to support a small nation. I can do yoga everyday. It may be VERY modified, but I can do some. 18 min stationary bike, 18 min treadmill walk, 45 min yoga
| |
| |
18 min stationary bike, 18 min walk on treadmill, 40 min yoga. OK- so my back is achy, but not form altering ;) I do have to lay flat on the floor for a while after each exercise. My back is just WEIRD! I see Brady tomorrow. He says that we are starting official rehab tomorrow. I am going to do these three things everyday this week. If all goes well, I'll add some running in next week. I shall consult with the doc first. He says I am clear to run right now, but I have to listen to my body. My body keeps acting like it wants to throw a fit, so I have skipped it. I've had so many setbacks that I am a HUGE CHICKEN! I am not used to being such a pansy. I need my fiercness to come back.
