5 miles on the treadmill as soon as I can talk myself into it!

It snowed 8 to 10" down here :(

*** I got myself ont the treadmill and after 3 miles, Mac's lip began to swell up, so I have got to take care of that allergic boy!  Good news is that the last time this happend we didn't know what had caused it.  This time I was home and he was eating an orange.  So, oranges may be the culprit.  Good and bad news all wrapped up in one little sweet package :)

This picture was from the last time it happend a few weeks ago.

From Marion on Mon, Jan 26, 2009 at 15:20:28

I haven;t entered my monday entry yet :) I just got home from work ;) The above entry is from Sunday.

From Burt on Mon, Jan 26, 2009 at 15:28:53

Hey Marion, you're super-diet woman. I have a question for you. I know I'm not listaed as one of 'Favorite Blogs', so you probably don't follow my blog too close. But if you did, you would notice that I've lost 21 lbs. since the beginning of the year. I've noticed though, sometimes when I stand up too quick, there's a big loss in blood pressure or something, because I feel faint. Am I starving myself too much? Am I lacking the proper protein? Sugar? There is a history of diabetes in my family.

From Marion on Mon, Jan 26, 2009 at 15:43:38

You are too, one of my fav's! Are you blind??? (jk- I have added you before as "burt" and it did not work, cause I needed the -mcumber part too ;)

WOW- 21 pounds in a month is a TON- it may be too fast, but here are a few questions.. #1 are you hungry? If so add in more whole grains and lean proteins. #2- is it just when you stand too quickly???

The dizziness is due to a drop in blood pressure when you rise. It is not harmful unless you pass out and crack your head open ;) You are probably losing too fast and your body is not having enough time to adjust. Caffeine will help raise your blood pressure. ;) DIET PEPSI FOREVER!!! (the doc prescribed this for me ;) Your body will adjust to the new weight and the dizziness will subside. Just take care and drop to the ground if you think you might be going out cold. I did this at work in November once. I stood up from a squatting position (the worst) and took two steps and went totally black. I dropped myself to the floor as fast as I could and stayed there until the lights came back on. slowly rising of course.

From Burt on Mon, Jan 26, 2009 at 15:51:26

1. I do get hungry, but I tell myself to go drink some water. 2. Yeah, it's basically when I stand too quickly and sometimes it's anytime that I stand. It hasn't happened for a couple of days, but I think it's because I've been eating a bit more. Plus I've snuck a few M&M's.

From Marion on Mon, Jan 26, 2009 at 16:02:12

It's REALLY important that you are getting enough nutrients. So, if you are hungry, be sure to eat! It can be fruit, veggies, whole grain's or lean protein. Even a glass of skim or 1% milk. You don't have to pig out, but you are a running machine and need to feed the machine. After the first 3 weeks or so, you should never lose more than an average of 2 pounds a week. If you are still losing more than 2 a week, PLEASE increase the food in take to slow the loss to NO more than 2 lbs a week.

PS- M&M's are not bad for you and it is really important that you stay satisfied- both physically and mentally. You will not stick with any plan that is too restrictive. As you spend more and more time eating healthfully and being active, you will, over time, crave less and less of the crap-o-la! They wont go away, and they shouldn't, but they won't rule the roost like they used too :) PROGRESS, sweet progress :)

WOW!!! You're WW QUEEN too!!! GREAT education there on nutrition and weight management. YOU ARE SO FUN and POSITIVE and role model of SUCCESS!!!

From Marion on Mon, Jan 26, 2009 at 16:11:45

I am a professional, you know ;) lol- Love you Smooth!- you too Burt.

Burt- I keep leaving the R out of your name and am cracking myself up! ;)

From Burt on Mon, Jan 26, 2009 at 16:14:24

Just don't replace it with another T!

So, two years ago when I went on another crash diet for two months, I was losing about 5 lbs. a week. That was bad, I guess.

From tarzan on Mon, Jan 26, 2009 at 16:16:23

OK Marion - now respost this on Sunday so we can see your real Monday entry.

From Marion on Mon, Jan 26, 2009 at 16:22:42

TArzan- Alright- I am a moron! I thought I did. Apparently I need more rest!

Burt- I am not going to say it is "bad" but it is not a very healthy rate of loss after the first few weeks. The main problem with "crash dieting" is that it is too restrictive and you are not able to live that way for very long. For long term loss, you need to find a plan that is livable, sustainable, one that can become second nature. Sure, once you get to your goal weight, you will be able to increase your intake of food a bit, but hopefully, you have learned some GREAT healthy habits along your weight loss journey that will help you keep the weight off. Slow and steady wins the race. Livable, sustainable, this is the best focus :)

From leslie on Mon, Jan 26, 2009 at 16:27:24

I am enjoying your comments! Thanks for all the tips. I guess I should be happy with a 1.5 loss in one week, the secret is to to not gain and lose and the same 1.5 OVER and OVER again!!

From Marion on Mon, Jan 26, 2009 at 16:33:47

1.5 loss ROCKS!!! .5 ROCKS!!! You are exactly right, you just have to keep moving down, even if it is slow!

From seeaprilrun on Mon, Jan 26, 2009 at 17:00:20

It took me 5 months to lose 15 pounds. Talk about slow.

From Marion on Mon, Jan 26, 2009 at 17:03:53

Way to go April! My last 5 took me about 7 months! ARGG!!! They probably would have come off faster if I didn't eat oatmeal cookies for lunch ;)

From seeaprilrun on Mon, Jan 26, 2009 at 17:08:08

Yeah if I could really hardcore diet it would probably have gone faster--but I have a serious sweet tooth and I have to keep it satisfied--not to mention I like to eat! I don't do well with calorie restriction!

From Marion on Mon, Jan 26, 2009 at 17:14:59

April- you hit the nail right on the head. We have to live our lives with freedom AND some treats! Slow and satisfied is WAY better and long lasting! :)

From Marion on Mon, Jan 26, 2009 at 18:32:32

I've updated my blog entry for Monday. You've got to go and see my treadmill distraction ;)

From tarzan on Mon, Jan 26, 2009 at 18:46:10

Ohhh - poor little guy! It's a good thing you were home. (good excuse to get off the 'mill, I suppose)

From Marion on Mon, Jan 26, 2009 at 18:48:15

I know it's kinda lame, but ANY excuse to get off the treadmill! I am such a WIMP!!! Why is the treadmill SO rotten hard for me to stay on????

From Burt on Mon, Jan 26, 2009 at 18:52:14

Make him eat 5 more, just to make sure.

From Marion on Mon, Jan 26, 2009 at 18:56:02

Burt- Interesting idea, but I think we will wait for a few weeks and go over to the Doc's and give him one there ;) Boring, I know, but considering how cute he is, we'll take the conservative route ;)

From Marion on Mon, Jan 26, 2009 at 19:26:07

Corrine, my sister, gave me a GREAT new recipe. We are having it for dinner. Put a pound of dry black beans in your crock pot. Cook them on high until they are cooked ;) Drain the water and pour a jar of your favorite salsa on top. Cook on low for a few hours to all day ;)

Cook your rice in the rice cooker, or wherever, in broth of choice. Just before serving add one bunch of cilantro, chopped.

YUMMY rice and beans!!!

From Kelli on Mon, Jan 26, 2009 at 20:29:40

Oranges?? Weird!

Hope you talked yourself into those miles little lady!

From Metcalf Running on Mon, Jan 26, 2009 at 21:46:15

Oranges give my girlfriend a migrain... weird is right!

Hope the poor little guy is OK.

From Marion on Mon, Jan 26, 2009 at 21:52:40

He's doing GREAT!! I gave him a antihistamine and washed him off really well. The swelling went down really fast. :D

From Marion on Wed, Jan 28, 2009 at 00:16:33

oh I did Kelli- every last crappy one!!
