Ok, I did it- THIRTEEN miles!  I am officially ready for Painters.  If nothing else happens at Painters, I will have at least run it and not died :)   The miles all felt just fine except the last one.  My legs were tired and getting a bit achy.  As a matter of fact, I will not type for very long so I can keep moving and not atrophy in a seated position. ;)

I had a few surprises on today's run.  The first is when I was bent over stretching and Michelle and MacKenzie ran past me.  I was so excited to meet MacKenzie and see Michelle. We ran for a block or two and then the speedsters headed off into the distance.  This was in my first mile, so it really perked things up for me.  The next surprise happened at the mile 2 marker.  I was heading off into this dark field.  I heard a strange noise and totally freaked out and turned and ran home!

I did 3 of my regular loops to make the 13 with two potty breaks at home.  Potty breaks at home are so much nicer than bushes!

BTW- I was on the middle of page two of the mileage board when I posted this this morning.  Cool eh?

1:08:00/13:36 on the treadmill

WOW!  Isn't the snow BEAUTIFUL!?!  If I wasn't having major sinus trouble and needing a really easy run, I would have braved the out doors.  My calves were pretty tense this morning and needed a ton of stretching thoroughout the run.  It seemed to help.  I also watched 50 First Dates while I ran.  It is one of my favorite movies.  I cry like a baby at the end when they are on the boat and she is holding and looking at her little girl.  Anyway- I am off ot hit the shower and something else important.  I can't remember what.

Oh- and by the way- my mileage ROCKS this week.  It is my hightest miles yet!  I am going to do a happy dance ;D

I checked out the highway and it is free and clear for running :)  My head is pretty lousy and I am hoping that I can avoid a full blown sinus infection.  I am taking the decongestants and I will start the steroid spray today.  I guess the dry air really does a number on my sinus.

I hope everyone is having a great day.  I am off to find some food.  The kids pretty much picked off all of the easy treats.  My 3 year old ate ALL of the oranges!  I knew I sould have gone grocery shopping last night.  Bummer!

My plan for this week is to run 5 miles a day with an 8 miler on saturday.  I am going to do a 5k time trial on wednesday or thursday, depending on how the nose is doing.  The #1 priority is to stay healthy for Painters!

Low miles on the treadmill.  I really don't like the treadmill :p  I am feeling better today, but am still quite sure it is trying to turn into a sinus infection.  I am working on keeping it at bay.  The treadmill is #1, decongestants and TONS of water.  Oh yeah, Nasacort too.  I slept in today as well.  Hopefully all of this will keep me well for Painters.  If I am still feeling well tonight and tomorrow, I will go for 5 miles.  I still have no fever and I think the sore throat is from drainage.  Man this is STUPID!!!  Too much thinking!

We just installed our HD converter boxes and WOW!!  We have tons more channels and they look great!  We are using our 1960 antenna and it is AWESOME!!

I am the biggest baby on the treadmill!  I just find any excuse to get off and do something else.  This is why outside running is best for me.  I can't wimp out!   Thanks to the brilliant Smooth, I was wishing I had a big ol' fan to use, like hers, and I remembered the HUGE fan I have kicking around in my laundry room!  Yippee!  The fan helped a ton!  My calves are still really tight.  I am going in to see Dr Brady this afternoon for my weekly tune up.

As for the cold- I think I am getting better.  I don't feel sick anymore and the decongestants and Nasacort are doing their job.  The crisis may be averted!!!

I am officially on board for all of this "get fit" crap.  I am officially 100% committed to losing 25 lbs.  (there are 5 spare pounds that hopped on board December 25th- Jan 1)  I am also going to add the ab workout that Rachel gave me 3 days a week and yoga is back in 3 times a week too.  This is my birthday present to myself. I want to have lost 100 lbs by my 40th birthday.  (please note, that I understand that even if I follow my brilliant plan to the "t" my body may have different ideas and I am good with that- progress is progress, even if slower than desired ;)

As for food- I will eat the Filling Foods and stick to my Personalized Daily Points Target, Weekly Points Allowance and eat my Activity Points as needed when hungry.  I get to go out to dinner one night a week and I get one dessert a week, both of which I will fit into my POINTS budget.

Life is good and I am happy with all of the progress I have made over the past three years. Not only have I met ALL of the goals that I set for myself, I have surpassed many of them.  Honestly, my wildest dreams of three years ago have come true.  I do have to admit that I am quite surprised that I have come up with new "wild" fantasy for myself and can hardly stand the thought that I am going to be able to accomplish these too.

I'd better get dressed.  I may be a beach volley ball player in my head, but this flabby gut of mine needs to get covered.  If anyone stopped by, they would first be blinded by the whiteness and then once their eyes have adjusted they would DROP DEAD at the sheer horror of me in my running shorts and sports bras!  YIKES!!!

First mile net down hill and conversley last mile net up hill.  Middle three, flat flat flat!  I ran to Salem and back on the highway.  The run felt great.  There was a tad bit of pushing going on, but I could have run further.

I wore my hot pint outfit and got two honks.  I think I ran so fast because I was SO embarrassed!  I look like an idiot! I like the shirt but the pants ride up my bum and they are HOT PINK!  Oh well- live and learn!

It was 42 when I left and it's 46 now.  I was cold the first 1.5 miles and was wishing I had brought my gloves and ear muffs.  The last 3.5 miles were prefect.

All FRB's going to Painters- we are wearing hot pink and red.  I will admit the pants are a bit much, but who knows, maybe I'll learn to love them.  They especially look great against the white show in the BRIGHT sun!!! :D

Laps- 11:11, 12:55, 12:39, 13:41.  4 miles outside- Literally ice all over me and icicles formed on my eyelashes.  My legs were frozen until the last mile.  My feet were just numb by then.  It was about 8 degrees.

Will do more on the treadmill after work.

*** I did one mile on the treadmill barefooted.  My feet are slippery.  My calves are not liking the treadmill at all anymore.  They seize up like a rock within a 1/2 mile.  Oh well.  5 milee tomorrow and 7 or 8 on saturday.  I am liking this taper thing.

Slushy and icy.  LOTS OF FUN! My new shoes are DRENCHED!!!  I called three drivers very terrible names.  Let's just say that they were BUTT HEADS and  I nearly punched one of their cars.  Yes, the HORRID cell phone driver was close enough for me to have punched her rear fender.  I should have done it.  I could have taken her with her rediculous poofy bleached blond hair!  yeah- I guess I am a bit feisty today ;D

Anyhoo- David is off today and I would love to laze about, but that probably will not happen.   It will be fun no matter what we do :)

Poopie run today :p   I should have expected it.  I have had really good runs lately, so I was due a crapper.  I was mostly just really tired the whole run.  I really wanted to lie down in the snow bank for a nap.  We did three strides at the end.  I figured the run was a bust anyway, so why not toss in some speed for torture ;)  It wasn't bad at all and felt a bit redeeming.  It made "the BEAST" really hard.  (the Beast is what I am calling the cruddy hill just before I get home).

I dreampt about making cookies all night.  I made Chocolate Chip Oatmeal with dried cherries instead of rasins (which I HATE).  I am going to the store after my shower to get the stuff to make them.  I am going to try chocolate chunk ;)  I thing they are going to be AMAZING!  I had three different dreams about them last night.  It must be a sign.  If they ROCK, I will post the recipe and bring them to Painters with me!

They were very good :)

Monday is here!  I am beginning my official taper for the 1/2.  5 miles today, 4, 4, 3 and then Friday off.

I am not feeling very chatty today so I am off to do something.  Maybe I will take a nap.

2.5 on the treadmill (31:00) and 2.5 outside 26:31, 10:24 ave, laps-11:37, 10:05, 9:38ave/4:49(1/2 mile)

I did not take my garmin for my little 2.5 miler outside so I had to play with my little sports watch and figure it out.  It was a tough little run but not too bad.  I went to get on the treadmill for my last 2.5 and saw that the temp was 38 and could not resist going outside!  I am glad I did.  I needed a speedy little run for myself.

I am really thinking a lot about my goals, as usual.  I think I am pretty set on my running schedule for the year.  I am 89% comitted to Ogden 1/2, 100% to Hobble Creek 1/2 and the Provo Riverwoods 10 miler.  I will put in for St George and if that does not work out I will do TOU.  I am planning on racing Hobble Creek and Ogden.  My marathon will just be a run for the experience, unless I some how blossom into an amazing distance runner this summer ;D  My number one goal is to be able to run everyday of my life.  I am also going to race local 5k's and 10k's as they arise.  I am planning on being able to go all out for the Ogden Marathon 2010.  In 2010 I want to do a triathalon and the Wasatch Back.  Although, I really might consider the Wasatch Back if I am asked this year by my cousins.

Day #2 of the taper.  I like taper.  LOTS of energy!

What should I be eating?  I am guessing just regular stuff- no or not too much crap.  Make the calories count ;)

I have to share- last night we sent Mac (5 years old) to get the rest of the family for Family Home Evening.  Well, we heard him yell from the top of the stairs, "It's time for Family Home Believe-ening"  We chuckled.    He is also always telling us that his brother is "fathering" him.   "Will!!! Quit fathering me!!!"  "MOM!!! My shoe is fathering my foot!" :D

Lead legs today.  Lots of little aches and pains, none lasted.  Tired and thirsty today.

I forgot to mention something cool from yesterday- as I was running by the high school I got high five'd, whooped and honked by a car of teenage boys.  It must have been the cross country team ;)

I am now 100% committed to losing 20 lbs before Ogden (25 if you count the 5 I am still trying to get rid of from Christmas ;)  I am committed to eating 97% better than I have been.  I am going to virtually cut out all of the the refined carbs and bad fats.  I say virtually, because I am still going to have dessert once a week and go out to dinner once a week.  I will make fabulous choices when I go out, but they will not be perfect, so I am going with "virtually" as my qualifier ;)  This will put me at a 100# total weight loss.  I would like to lose 7-8 more after that, but I will give myself a year for those last few, if they will come off at all.  I have been trying to muster the enthusiasm and resolve to commit myself to this, and I am finally there.  It has been really hard to tell myself that I need to lose more weight after losing so much already. I suppose it feels somewhat like mile 22-24 of a marathon.  "What do you mean I have to go further, I've already come SO FAR!!!"  I am going to make signs for all over my house with my goal weight on it.  My main reason for the boost in enthusiasm and commitment is that I want to RACE the Ogden 1/2 Marathon.  I want to RACE this whole upcoming season and I want to see what I really have.  It makes me excited to think about my possible potential for 2010.  I don't want another decade to pass with a speck of "I wonder what I could have done?"

Sorry for the long introspective entry.  It helps for me to write it out :D

Oh- I asked my son what he wanted to blow up with his riches, he said, "Maybe a tree."  So there you have it, Mac (5) wants to take his whole 35 cent fortune and blow up a tree.  I really don't understand boys at all!  They are just plain WEIRD!!!

The RED HOT PINK CHICKS rule the universe!!!  There is a lot of hot pink at the end of the race :)  I focused on picking them off in the last two miles.  I don't think anyone passed me in the last two miles.  Jon and Kelli could have been tripping them for me ;)

KELLI-  THANK YOU!!! You are the best pacer 'keep me from quitting' friend EVER!!!  LOVE LOVE LOVE!!!

LESLIE-  I Love you and WE DID IT!!!  I know you have done this before, but dang it girl- we ROCKED!!! :)  and we looked MARVELOUS!!!

I started to get a migraine about an hour before the race.  I left the condo and bawled for a bit.  Migraines tend to force me to run slower and when I run longer distances with a migraine, I really have a bad few days to follow.  I was pretty sad starting the race and not sure what would happen.  I did not push, for fear of lasting repercussions with the head.  In retrospect, my time could have been better with a few changes to race day. #1 I need better sleep, #2 I need a warm up, #3 NO MIGRAINE for a shot at my best time, #4 I can run a moderately tough race and not suffer too much following the race.  I suffered nausea for two days and a dull but present headache.  I also could not read for the rest of Saturday.

11:19.18  best pace 6:27  Splits are by my garmin which was off by about .2 by the end of the race.

1- 11:05- Should have warmed up.  Should have stretched!  Should have GONE POTTY!!!

2- 12:03 vpb ;)

3- 10:33

4- 10:45

5- 11:09 Short steep up-hill that was a bummer :(

6- 9:51  There was a shady gradual up hill trail here that was COLD but I felt great!  Man, if I could feel like that for the whole race- I'd be QUEEN OF THE WORLD!!!

7- 10:56- OK- this was an awesome mile.  This is where the winners pass the non-winners.  We saw Jeff and Mary Ann cruising in for their wins.  We also saw everyone else finishing SO strong.  It was a great boost! :) and very distracting :)

8- 11:39- the beginning of the loop of 1/2 marathon death!!! This little loop is just a plain old bummer :(

9- 11:49  Starting to really feel sore at the very top of my legs in my hips.  My neuroma was very unhappy, but not "race ending" and no need to pray for divine intervention ;)

10- 11:49  I was very emotionally and physically spent here and it was feeling like it would never get better, as seen in mile 11 :)

11- 12:39 WORN OUT!!!  Scott and Jon swoop in SAVE THE DAY!!!! :D

12- 11:18  Scott came in first and really gave us all an amazing shot of energy!  Soon Kelly and Jon showed up and took us in the rest of the way.  Jon was a GREAT pacer and got me in for a strong finish.  Kelly stayed with Leslie and Kelli brought me in with Jon :)  This mile felt good.  I was able to put the soreness behind me and run.  It felt great!

13.11- 10:09  It was great to finish :)  I surprised myself an bawled like a baby when I finally found David.

It is FINISHED!!! ;)  I am done and I am POOPED!  My time is unofficial and I will post the official time when it becomes available.  There is so much to say I am not sure where to start.  So I will start from the beginning.

Kelli and Scott pick us up and  we drove to St George... I am so tired that I am going to have to do this tomorrow :)

It's tomorrow and my brain is feeling some what more clear and rested.  I took an ice bath before bed which was a good and a bad idea all in one :)  I think it will end up in the good idea column in the end.  I am taking Aleve for the soreness.  David and Ashley (14) cracked up when they saw me shivering in the tub with my Painters sweatshirt, a red sweatshirt, red gloves and my Painters hat.  They should have taken a picture.  It would have been pretty funny :)

So, Scott and Kelly picked us up about 10:30 am on Friday with Mary Ann... the speedster.  We had a great time driving down to St George together.  We picked up our packets at the rec center and then headed to the condo.  We also made it over to the Running store and Bajio.  The condo worked out great.  It was big and beautiful.  We had an amazining dinner with Kelli & Scott, Susuanna (Smooth)& Larry, Jon & Kelly, Leslie & Harold, Mary Ann & her friend Rachel, Coleen (Sunnyrun) & Dave, Kellie & Tyler (popped in) and David & me.  Everyone was SO great.

The next morning we were up and groggy but ready to race.  We made it over to the convention center in plenty of time.

*See race above*  After the race we raced home to shower and then we were off to Outback for dinner.  Kelli and I split a burger which was perfect and it tasted really great!!!  After dinner we went for a walk in the strip mall and met Kelli and Tyler at the Chocolate Factory.  I was feeling pretty horrible all post race, slightly nauseated, very loopy not hungry.  We made one last stop at the St George Running Center and then we went home.  The dive home was great fun and uneventful.

This was an awesome road trip!!!

** I just entered my official results for the race :)  I finished 99 in my age group.  I find this pretty cool as it WAS NOT a tripple didget number :)  I have got plenty of room for improvement and I am very excited about that :)

I had a very long and WONDERFUL massage today.  I am really glad I scheduled one.  I am going to plan one after every race from now on!

I just had the best time this past weekend.  I am so grateful that I found this blog.  I so happy with running and I am just loving it!  I LOVE you all!!!

I slept in this morning!  YIKES!  I was very tired and might have never awoken in my little Will hadn't come in and started to cry because he could not find me.  I was one with my bed, flat on my stomach and invisible to the 3 year old eye :)

I will run at 2:15 when the kids get home and it is WARMER :)

My nutrition yesterday was really pretty good.  I had yummy brown rice sushi (spicy tuna) for dinner that was divine!  I had a bowl of Cheerios for a snack when I got home from work at 9:30 pm.  I don't remember breakfast or lunch.  I did have the heels of my homemade whole wheat bread with a bit of honey for a snack.  Oh- I had some left over pasta for lunch.  I had an apple some where in there.  Oh yeah- I had a banana smoothie for breakfast.  I did have a chocolate attack after lunch and ate about 1/3 C of milk chocolate chips.  I am down 3# since monday, but that extra 3 was from the 1/2 and being sore.  The chocolate wasn't the greatest choice, but little snacks like that keep me from going over the edge.  Will loves the chocolate too :)

Today I have had a bowl of corn chex and am feeling fine.  I am off to conquer the mountain of laundry!  I shall prevail!!!  (I need some dramatic music)

Well- I headed out for a cute five miler (32 degrees) and darn it if the road isn't an ice skating rink.  It looks like it had a thin layer of water- but no it's ice.  I made it a block and almost slipped twice, so I will go after school.  I am not sure if it rained or what.  It is 32 degrees outside, so that is a possibility.  Oh well.  ;D  I wanted to run after school, but didn't want to be a wimp.  For safety's sake, I am going to have to go with WIMP!!!

Anna, my 16 year old, can't breathe at all.  She has been using the nebulizer since last night and I am going to take her in the the doc this morning.  I may have to send her to Park City to stay with my SIL's parents.  We'll see what the Doc says.

*** 41 degrees- the run was going to be boring until Kim drove by and came along for 4 of my miles :D  The air is CRAP!  It needs to storm Saturday afternoon through Sunday morning to clear everything up.  This will also make it so the roads are clear for the Monday run :)

bad food day.  Why am I compelled to eat whatever is placed before me?  ...or left on the seat beside me?  I am a wimp!

37 degrees.  It rained all night long.  It was drizzeling while I ran.  No wind.  I was a bit tired and relaxed.  The pace was slow, but negative splits are a positive.  I ran up around the  mountain base above the crud.  It was really pretty up there.  I could see down in the valley- well not really, I could see a brown soup where the valley should be.

I am icing my foot. My neuroma is acting up at 3.5 miles instead of 6.5.  I am wondering if icing it after runs will help.

Have a great weekend!  I need to go shopping.  It's impossible to eat good food if you don't have any in the house ;D

1 mile warm up and then a bit of a push.  The air looks great today.  I had an emergency potty stop in mile 4.  Thank heavens one of our friends was outside and let me use their potty!  This was not a great VPB spot ;)

I am looking forward to the rest of the weekend.  I am going to laze about, do sime laundry, some shopping and NO eating of crap!  We went to an Indian Buffet last night!  YUMMY and then I came home and at a WHOLE pint of Ben & Jerry's Cherry Garcia Light Fro Yo!  It was awesome.  That is my dining out for the week and my dessert!  I am going to finish my book, "The Memory Keeper's Daughter," and then start Bleak House.  It's MichelleL's favorite Dickins.

Have a WONDERFUL weekend!

Does anyone want to come down for the Ground Hog race on the 7th in Provo.  It's in the announcements.  It's one of Mary Anne's races.  The is a 5k and a 10k.  It's only like $6.  COME :D

I am sure that there is some evil that will come of all of this rain, but I AM SO HAPPY ABOUT IT!!!  Rain gives me hope that spring is just around the corner.  I feel like I am on the second half of a long hard run and it is all down hill from here on.  Only 54 days until spring, yes, I am counting.  With all that has and is happening this winter, I am finding myself desperate for the hyacinth, daffodils and tulips to crack the barren soil and shoot forth in glory and rebirth.  I realize this sounds a bit ethereal coming from me, maybe.  I guess the rain brings out the introspective philosopher in me.

Have a GREAT Sunday!  Enjoy the rain!

By the way, Fred Clause was a pretty cute movie.  I may sort of like Vince Von now, maybe ;)

Oh CRAP- it's snowing!!!

5 miles on the treadmill as soon as I can talk myself into it!

It snowed 8 to 10" down here :(

*** I got myself ont the treadmill and after 3 miles, Mac's lip began to swell up, so I have got to take care of that allergic boy!  Good news is that the last time this happend we didn't know what had caused it.  This time I was home and he was eating an orange.  So, oranges may be the culprit.  Good and bad news all wrapped up in one little sweet package :)

This picture was from the last time it happend a few weeks ago.

I hate the treadmill. :P  I need 5 miles today but it is not going to happen.  Maybe I can force myself to do another 1.25 tonight.  Snow snow go away!  I guess I should not have slept in this morning.  I am feeling very tired and lazy with all of this rain and snow!

Go see my sister, she is new on the blog- Running Rinny :)

It felt GREAT to be outside.  I had a bit our trouble shaking the negative treadmill attitude, but I did and I am SO HAPPY!!!

Since my first real race is not until May (Ogden1/2) I am going to stick around 30-35 miles per week until March 1st.  I have been really getting frustrated with the weather and this just gives me some flexibility with my running so I don't FREAK out if I don't get in all the miles and workouts I have planned in.  They say that one month a year needs to be a recovery month so I am going to take advantage of these last few winter weeks and try to relax and not back slide too much.  My number one goal is to run injury free FOREVER and ever, so NOT adding miles for a month won't kill anyone ;)

Happy hump day!!!

I don't know my total time because I forgot to start my garmin for the first 2 miles :(  I was trying not to look at it for the whole run.  The only reason I looked at it was because I thought I had heard a beep.  I am dork!

My goal for this run was to just have a nice time and not worry about pace or anything.  I had a nice time.  I am off to WW with my SIL Barbara who is viviting from CA.  Then we are going to meet MichelleL for lunch.

Sasha wanted me to run a 10 mm to failure and then jog the rest of the miles.  I warmed up for the first mile.  It took about a quarter mile to get to 10.  I was surprised at this.  I kept trying to go faster and nothing.  I thought I'd have to settle for an 11 mm, but then I was at 10 after about .25 miles. The tempo was not bad until at 6.2 miles, my pace suddenly dropped.  I think I could have pushed for at least a 1/2 mile more, but I consciously chose to slow down and instantly my legs turned to molasses on a winter morning.  I sped up one more time and could not make myself stay there.  I am guessing this is failure.  Now that I am not afraid of the failure part, I am going to shoot for 6.  Anything over 6 will be cake!  I guess I will see next week.  So overall, I did I five mile tempo run inside an 8 miler.  Next week I am planning for 10 miles with a 6+ mile tempo.  You know, running faster at 10 mm was WAY easier than running those last two slow miles.  I guess that is why they call it failure!!  I have got to learn how to hold off the "failure" for as long as possible because I really hated the last two slow miles.  They were horrid! ;D
