Lead legs today.  Lots of little aches and pains, none lasted.  Tired and thirsty today.

I forgot to mention something cool from yesterday- as I was running by the high school I got high five'd, whooped and honked by a car of teenage boys.  It must have been the cross country team ;)

I am now 100% committed to losing 20 lbs before Ogden (25 if you count the 5 I am still trying to get rid of from Christmas ;)  I am committed to eating 97% better than I have been.  I am going to virtually cut out all of the the refined carbs and bad fats.  I say virtually, because I am still going to have dessert once a week and go out to dinner once a week.  I will make fabulous choices when I go out, but they will not be perfect, so I am going with "virtually" as my qualifier ;)  This will put me at a 100# total weight loss.  I would like to lose 7-8 more after that, but I will give myself a year for those last few, if they will come off at all.  I have been trying to muster the enthusiasm and resolve to commit myself to this, and I am finally there.  It has been really hard to tell myself that I need to lose more weight after losing so much already. I suppose it feels somewhat like mile 22-24 of a marathon.  "What do you mean I have to go further, I've already come SO FAR!!!"  I am going to make signs for all over my house with my goal weight on it.  My main reason for the boost in enthusiasm and commitment is that I want to RACE the Ogden 1/2 Marathon.  I want to RACE this whole upcoming season and I want to see what I really have.  It makes me excited to think about my possible potential for 2010.  I don't want another decade to pass with a speck of "I wonder what I could have done?"

Sorry for the long introspective entry.  It helps for me to write it out :D

Oh- I asked my son what he wanted to blow up with his riches, he said, "Maybe a tree."  So there you have it, Mac (5) wants to take his whole 35 cent fortune and blow up a tree.  I really don't understand boys at all!  They are just plain WEIRD!!!

Wow! I feel the power!! You will do it, I am going to be right beside you on your journey! This is going to THE YEAR! 100 pounds for you! 50 miles for me! I am shooting for 15 pounds by the end of March, and then I think I will try for 5 more by Ogden. Okay girl, LET'S DO IT!!!!!

From tarzan on Wed, Jan 14, 2009 at 11:51:49

I think you did some good introspection there Marion. You should be very proud of how far you have come. It is awesome! I know that with the same determination you have shown in the past that you will be able to succeed in all of your goals.

From Marion on Wed, Jan 14, 2009 at 11:55:45

Thanks girls! I feel STRONG!!! I feel POWERFUL!!! I am off to conquer the laundry and the smelly boys that are lazing about in the tub! Boy do they get STINKY!! Oh wait... I think it is the poopie diaper sitting next to me!! ...or is it me????

From Nevels on Wed, Jan 14, 2009 at 11:58:25

nothing wrong with wanting to blow stuff up...

From Marion on Wed, Jan 14, 2009 at 12:03:47

Nevels- I thought of you! Yesterday, Mac was so excited about all of his "coin" and he exclaimed with much joy, "Now I can blow something up!!!" I laughed so hard! My other kids buy candy with their riches. I am going to have to watch this one ;)

From Nevels on Wed, Jan 14, 2009 at 12:10:41

I would say that he'll grow out of it, but I'd be lying...

Just tell him that if he spends his money wisely, studies hard, and does really well in school, he'll be able to blow all kinds of stuff up!

From Marion on Wed, Jan 14, 2009 at 12:19:40

I fear it is genetic. We live in the house his grandfather grew up in. It used to have a garage, that Grandpa blew up when he was 15! Grandpa(Big Mac- yes, our little pyro is named for his grandpa) also made an underground fort with a stove for heat and he wired it for electricity from a nearby power pole. When he got too old for the fort, he built a bomb and blew it up to see what would happen. I think we may be in BIG trouble with this one! Just as a side note- David's dad, Big Mac, ended up being a great citizen and a high school teacher.

Wow Marion, you are awesome girl! 100#'s? WOW. What an accomplishment! I'm so excited for you! YEAH YOU!!!!!

From JulieC on Wed, Jan 14, 2009 at 14:48:38

Awesome girlfriend!! What a trooper you have been. The no carb thing was difficult at first and after avoiding foods I was probably allergic to (like yeast, onions, garlic, sugar, of all things) I lost over 20 pounds that had been hanging on me the last 10 years since my first child. Now I don't crave them much at all (a half a small bowl of ice cream suffices instead of a huge thick 20 ounce shake) however I do eat chocolate chips. But sadly now with the braces I can't eat them as fast. I have craved almonds and so do eat plenty of fat but my body has loved them. I had to say goodbye to them too though as there is no eating of nuts in this situation. Basically what I am trying to tell you is that as you get going it will be easier and you will see your body respond positively, including diminished headaches.

From Marion on Wed, Jan 14, 2009 at 14:53:48

Thanks Julie :) You'll get used to those braces in not time an find ways to get the almonds :) My daughter brought some home last night. They were SO good!

Marion, you are so inspiring!! I with you in this I really need to drop at least 15 buy Ogden, I would really like 20. But I need to be realistic with myself, maybe all your commitment and enthusiasm is rubbing off, but I'm with you gril!

From Kelli on Wed, Jan 14, 2009 at 15:42:13

I feel your power and i KNOW you will do it! look what you have done so far, no denying you can do whatever you put your mind to!

From seeaprilrun on Wed, Jan 14, 2009 at 17:33:32

That was like an inspirational speech! I'm quite convinced that you will be RACING! I can't wait to hear about Painters.

From Smooth on Wed, Jan 14, 2009 at 22:00:18

See! Marion!!! You were high-five'd, whooped and honked by a car load of teenage boys!!! YOU ROCK!!! You're a head-turner. :)

No doubt about it, you're gonna reach your AWESOME goals with flying colors! :)

Little Mac is gonna be a genius. Just don't let him near any explosive device. LOL :D

From Camille on Thu, Jan 15, 2009 at 09:31:21

Marion - you are amazing! I just thought I'd tell you that. I love reading your entries.

From Marion on Thu, Jan 15, 2009 at 09:34:42

Thanks guys- I am feeling a bit reserved about running this morning. It's only 19 degrees outside. I am already freezing in my warm house!!! What ever shall I do? I guess I'll run on my treadmill in my jammies :)

From The Howling Commando on Thu, Jan 15, 2009 at 09:37:03

I agree that boys are weird! sheesh! though that does sound fun, blowing up a tree ! :) I mean.. no, that would not be the "responsible" thing for me to do :).

As I've stated before, you are one of my heroes, Marion! You rock! Hehe I agree with some of the other bloggers. You're definitely turning heads :). I can't wait for your PAINTERS REPORT!!

From snoqualmie on Thu, Jan 15, 2009 at 10:51:08

Great plan, Marion! Your racing ambitions sound very familiar to me. (ie I've wanted those things too!) If you don't mind a little unsolicited advice, immerse yourself in stories about elite runners and how they train, eat, etc. What I find is that my brain will accept that path if I make it appear "normal" instead of "tough, exceptional, extraordinary, etc." Does that make sense? I wish you great success!!

From Marion on Thu, Jan 15, 2009 at 10:54:19

Thanks Benn :)

Sno- THANK YOU!!! I think you are exactly right. I think that is why I like this blog so much. I I am going to drag MichelleL to lunch next week and pick her brain for training ideas :)
