Holy cow!  (although I saw no cows today ;)  Today's run was supposed to be a 6 mile tempo at marathon pace.  My marathon pace is 11 minute miles as projected my McMillinRunning.com based off of my last 5k time.  This was a really hard run.  Mile 4 was all up hill.  Mile five was rolling hills, net even.  Mile one and two were up hill.  Mile 3, 5, and 6 were down hill.  I worked really hard to make mile 4 come out like it did.  I could hear MichelleL in my head saying "ta ta ta" to keep my foot falls quick and even.  It really helped on this 1/3 of a mile BEASTLY hill in mile 4.  I think I am going to get some salt tablets.  When I really get sweating I get major salt deposits on my neck.  All in all, I am very pleased with my run today.  It was really hard and I HATE running hard.  I really like just having a good ol' time running with my friends :)  I kept telling myself that I just have to kick my bum once a week and that's it.  The rest of the time is for me, and the bum kicking will pay off!

WOOHOO!!! You sure kicked some bum bum today. CHECK OUT YOUR AP. Yep, you're hitting those tempo paces. AWESOME!!! GREAT JOB doing hills too. When I run uphill alone, I repeat the mantra: Hills are friends! Glide girl Glide! Smooth and Strong! Sometimes I would count to 30 to keep my pace steady.

I am so proud of your workout today! WAY TO GO on that 6 miler!!!

WOW! GREAT running today.

about the salt...i get SO salty when i really work up a good sweat. what do you think about super-salty sweat? i know sweat is naturally salty, but mine seems to be abnormally so. i can't figure it out. i really don't eat that much salt... ????

From Kelli on Wed, Mar 18, 2009 at 21:17:56 from 71.219.76.202

I am covered with salt when i finish a run! I think (HOPE) it is normal!!!

From Marion on Wed, Mar 18, 2009 at 23:48:44 from 71.219.57.139

The salt is only a problem for some, I am guessing. A lot of runners take salt/electrolyte tabs while running or racing and find that it helps. My friend Kim gets blisters all over her skin and her hands swell. I suppose if you feel well while running that you probably don't need them, but maybe they'd be worth a try?

From JulieC on Thu, Mar 19, 2009 at 01:14:59 from 70.58.105.224

Same problem here as well. Haven't tried the tablets but recommend gatorade in a long run or some electrolytes in any form.

Hey good job, but question, why did you choose to do 5 faster than marathon pace instead of 6 at marathon pace? Did you give up because you were going so fast and it tired you out, or did you just change your mind about the type of workout you were going to do? The great news is that there's no question you could have done 6 at 11:00 given your nice workout, but it's likely because your ave pace was so much faster than your marathon pace that it felt so hard.

From Marion on Fri, Mar 20, 2009 at 10:55:28 from 71.219.51.91

Good question. I am feeling a bit schizophrenic about my training. I do have 2 half's before my marathon and I am wanting to train for them to-ish ;) So, my theory was that if I ran closer to my 1/2 pace on these Wed runs, it wont hurt my marathon pace any and it will help my 2 half's that I am doing. I know the plural of half is halves, but is that how you refer to multiple half's???? ;D

AND- the plan calls for 6 marathon pace miles with no mention of warm up or cool down. It is a beginner schedule, do you think that I need to add 2 more miles for warm up and cool down or since the 6 is part of the weekly total mileage, I just need to work it into the 6???? I don't want to over do my weekly miles.

Wow - that is some awesome running. You did a great job, Marion, and I hope you are proud of your great workout this day!
