I started running in May of 2006 while losing 85 lbs after my youngest was born.  I have 6 fantastic kids, 3 girls and 3 boys and a wonderful husband.  My oldest is in college and my baby is in pre-school. (Six kids in 5 schools ;)

I had five planned but my hamstrings do not like the TM yesterday and my left ham was irritated today.  I ran outside, a super slow jog up hill to give my ham a rest.  I stopped and stretched once and it feels OK now, just a titch sore.  I am going to baby it for as long as it is whining at me.  If it is still bugging my Monday, I will go see Dr Brady.  Last January I pulled it running on the treadmill.  From what Dr Brady explained to me, I am a toe runner, hence the calf problems.  When I get on the treadmill, it forces my hams to work more than they are used to.  If I set the treadmill to an incline, I force myself on to my toes and create some relief for the hams.  Yesterday in mile 4, I started to notice my hams and increased the incline for mile 5.  I think all will be well, but I am going to be cautious for the rest of the week ;D

Happy almost Weekend!!!

Be careful that treadmill is a killer! Good job on getting on the dam_ thing! I didn't just swear unless you fill in the blank :) Tell your hubby hello!

From Marion on Thu, Feb 12, 2009 at 11:53:38

Thanks for the tip. I have been writing all of the letters. That will help a ton ;) I have been trying to quit swearing for a while now... like since 6th grade :)

From The Howling Commando on Thu, Feb 12, 2009 at 12:03:06

Hey Marion! :) Good on being cautious. That's what I have to be too I guess. I just really hope to get back out there running. I've learned me and treadmills = not friends any more. Haha!

From Marion on Thu, Feb 12, 2009 at 12:06:06

Benn- Every time i get too caught up in a training schedule, I get hurt. It's hard to let go of the ocd and run smart. I am learning, I hope ;)

From Kelli on Thu, Feb 12, 2009 at 13:06:02

Good for you for being cautious! It is so important for runners to listen to their whining bodies, and you will be better and FASTER for it!

Have a great day!

From Teena on Thu, Feb 12, 2009 at 15:00:26

Smart girl Marion.

Baby it like crazy!!

From Marion on Thu, Feb 12, 2009 at 15:07:36

Kelli & Teena- I think I did not do too much damage to it- here's to hoping it's just the evil treadmill! Hey- how cool would that be if I had a real reason to never run on the DREADmill again???

From Teena on Thu, Feb 12, 2009 at 15:10:34

No ... you don't want a real reason ... just a made-up one that you can throw around at your convenience. Keep the real reasons far at bay!! PLEASE!!

From leslie on Thu, Feb 12, 2009 at 15:25:14

Yes, I think flexibilty is the key for us all, listen to our bodies and be smart!! Good girl! You kicked my bootie this morning!

From Marion on Thu, Feb 12, 2009 at 15:33:27

I was thinking, if the roads kill my calves and the treadmill my hams, maybe I SHOULD run 2 miles a day on the treadmill to help strengthen my hams and the rest of my miles on the road. That would seem to be a logical way to balance my running and give me more strength??? Hmmmmm.... Any thoughts?

From Kelli on Thu, Feb 12, 2009 at 15:35:09

Or add in some strength training for your calves and hour hamstrings?!?

I think running is just about pain, plain and simple! It should not be, but it seems to be so.

From Marion on Thu, Feb 12, 2009 at 15:37:38

I do need to do something else too. I am looking forward to the bike again when it defrosts around here :) Oh- I had better get my sit ups done!

From leslie on Thu, Feb 12, 2009 at 15:39:33

do some for me please

From The Howling Commando on Thu, Feb 12, 2009 at 15:49:36

What's my excuse then Marion, as I've never had an official running schedule :(

From Smooth on Thu, Feb 12, 2009 at 22:54:25

Looks like TM is not very nice to your hammie. Baby it like you say. Do your xtraining and yoga and strength stuff OR just REST!!!

From montelepsy on Fri, Feb 13, 2009 at 02:32:00

Toe runner? I bet you look like a ballerina when you run. If only the rest of us could be so graceful. I think the technical term for my running is the slappy foot lurch.

From Marion on Fri, Feb 13, 2009 at 08:18:30

Mike- I think he mentioned the slappy foot lurch runners and said I should be leery of them ;) Are you enjoying your perfect weather?
