I had to make a decision this morning.  I am emotionally spent.  I was

going to run 14 miles today.  I had to decide if I had the strength to

do it and the ability to actively recover from it after wards.  I

realized that I have been gone so much from my children that the time

for the run would be too much as well.  I also found myself bursting into tears

all morning.  This week just gets to be a survival recovery week.  I

was supposed to run with Kim and Trisha and had to bail.  I am so glad

that Trisha came to run so I didn't have to worry about leaving Kim

high and dry.  The little run I did do felt good and I did it really

slow, 13:14.  Everything with my dad is going just like the doctors

like to see and see all the time, but for us, it is new and scary and

very stressful.  It is horrible seeing my dad hooked to more tubes and

wires than my car.  Anyway, I hope you all had great runs today and

have a wonderful restful weekend.  I have a few more loads of laundry

and then I want to head out to the hospital.

You obviously made the right decision right now. The healthiest thing you can do for your body right now is put your mind at ease.

Best wishes for your father. In no time he'll be back up and around and you'll be pushing the big miles again.

Great job today.

Thanks Jr. :D I am feeling much better :) My dad is one tough guy and will fight like crazy with his recovery.

I am so sorry to hear about you dad, but i am glad to hear that he is going to be OK. You and your family will be in my prayers.

Thanks Barry :) That means so much. A few weeks ago we were having a family discussion about who we need to be praying for. After about a 20 minute discussion about everyone who was struggling, I jokingly said, "We may need to just limit our prayers to immediate family this week." It seems like when things go wrong, it comes on pretty heavy :) But like that country song goes, "I'm thirsty anyway, so bring on the rain."

From barry on Sat, Mar 07, 2009 at 14:31:27 from 75.174.7.143

Well, i do have to say "God works in mysterious ways." I bet you are glad you had a week of praying for your family. I lost my dad about two years ago and it does leave a void in your life. So enjoy every moment you have with him.

I am so sorry about your dad :( I can't imagine this life with out mine.

God does work in mysterious ways and miracles are all around us if we will just notice them. Hopefully all of this with my dad will give everyone a wake up call about diet and exercise. I have to say it felt pretty good listening to the nutritionist and cardiac rehab guy knowing I had already made all of these changes :)

From luzylewq on Sat, Mar 07, 2009 at 15:47:49 from 69.169.165.206

I know what it's like to see your dad all hooked up to tubes, and the helpless feeling that things are what they are. I know I told you all about the 2 years my Dad was sick, and how it's taken me so long to mentally/emotionally recover from all that. I'm glad to hear you're Dad's a fighter. So I'm praying for you, and for your family. Don't be hard on yourself about the running. Those 40 mile weeks take a while to, especially in light of what's going on in regualr life. I'll be thinking of you.

From Marion on Sat, Mar 07, 2009 at 15:55:27 from 71.219.48.57

Thanks Luz- I have been thinking about you and all you went through with your dad :( These men are our rocks and our North Stars. It is hard to reconcile their mortality with our very real perceptions of their invincibility :)

Hey Marion,

Sorry to hear about your dad. You are blessed to live so close to him, so you can share your adult life with him in a way some of us don't get to enjoy our dads. I hope all turns out well.

From Marion on Sat, Mar 07, 2009 at 16:19:59 from 71.219.48.57

Thanks Michelle. I do feel very lucky to have them close now, they moved here about three years ago. He is a funny guy. I just wish I had his genes for speed ;)

From Kelli on Sat, Mar 07, 2009 at 16:42:19 from 71.219.75.10

You deserve a break! I am glad you gave it to yourself today! Hope all continues to go well with your dad. I think you need a date night tonight! Go see a happy, funny movie.

From britta on Sat, Mar 07, 2009 at 17:07:52 from 72.130.122.244

Marion, So sorry to hear about your dad, that is so stressful. Don't worry about your miles this morning or the next few weeks for that matter. There's is a time and season.

From Marion on Sat, Mar 07, 2009 at 17:51:19 from 71.219.48.57

Kelli- a date sounds WONDERFUL! Have you seen anything good lately? I want to see "He's just not that into you" but I have heard nothing about it. I also don't know if I can do a movie with out my diet pepsi ;)

Britta- Thanks so much. I am heading over to see him in a bit :)

From Kim Robison on Sat, Mar 07, 2009 at 17:58:03 from 67.177.48.90

Your awesome Marion! You did what you needed to do! We missed you, but we'll run another day! Hang in there!

P.S. I have lots of chocolate at my house-I think you need some!

From Marion on Sat, Mar 07, 2009 at 18:00:21 from 71.219.48.57

Kim- I am so glad that you had a good run :D Chocolate sounds GREAT! I am having a "fat" day too. I think we are going to go get fresh spring rolls for dinner. Are you guys game?

From Leslie on Sat, Mar 07, 2009 at 18:35:17 from 76.23.61.78

Sounds like your dad is a strong man, I am glad he is doing so well and I am glad you took some time out for yourself. Harold and I went to see He's just not that into you for VDAY and it was great, happy and fun, I would recommend it, it has a fun cast too. We just saw Slumdog Millionaire, do not see that tonight, it is fabulous but very disturbing. Enjoy your weekend, you have had alot on your plate, and you can always run next week. I bet that does feel GREAT to know you are eating so healthy and have made such positive changes. You go girl!!

From kelsey on Sat, Mar 07, 2009 at 18:42:17 from 68.35.237.127

Hi Marion, I am so sorry to hear about your father, but glad things went well with his surgery. I'll pray for his continued recovery.

Speaking of fat days, pizza and apple pie a la mode for lunch. Now that is a great post-race meal!

From Marion on Sat, Mar 07, 2009 at 18:52:39 from 71.219.48.57

Kelsey- you deserve that 100%! You are a ROCK STAR! Thanks for the prayers, we need them and we can feel them :)

Les- Glad to hear about the movie. What am I going to do about the Diet Pepsi???? I guess I could smuggle in green peppers and water :D

From leslie on Sat, Mar 07, 2009 at 19:04:08 from 76.23.61.78

NO GIRL!!! You deserve a Diet Coke! Have a fun time out, the movie is so cute!

Hey!! I set up my account thanks for letting me know about this blog its great! I hope all is well with your dad!!! :)

From tarzan on Sat, Mar 07, 2009 at 20:08:55 from 97.117.61.26

Marion - Good choice on what you did today. It sounds like you would have been courting both physical and emotional injury by doing anything more.

Take care of yourself and your family. I'm sure this is scary for your kids too.

Hope your dad is doing better and keep on keeping on!

It sounds like you needed to have some down time. I think sometimes stress is more fatiguing then running. I lost my Dad a little over two years ago, it's difficult...I'm sure he will recover, but enjoy all the time you can with him!

From Kelli on Sat, Mar 07, 2009 at 22:52:32 from 71.219.97.142

Oh I am late on my reply, but I have only heard horrible things about that movie! I hope you did not go....but it really looks good in the previews.

From Marion on Sun, Mar 08, 2009 at 11:32:54 from 71.219.61.52

Kelli- I really liked 80% of the movie. It's like a really great salad and then they pour CRAP salad dressing all over it :( I hated the married couple.

Lori- I am so sorry about your dad :( I sure hope we've got 20+ more years with him :)

From jona on Sun, Mar 08, 2009 at 13:19:57 from 76.27.81.31

Marion, I'm glad you followed your feelings on not running! Your an awesome mom, wife, and daughter! I know this is hard stuff with your dad. Go see him as often as you can! You and your family are in my prayers!

From jona on Sun, Mar 08, 2009 at 13:22:36 from 76.27.81.31

On a side note, I too didn't care for that movie. I'm with Marion on the "married couple", didn't like that at all! That and some of the other stuff kinda made me sick. But on the flip side, I can see how some people may like it.

From Smooth on Sun, Mar 08, 2009 at 21:59:41 from 71.36.69.102

Marion,

I'm late in "checking" on you. I am glad to hear that your dad is recovering as well as the doctors expected. I know what you mean by the wires and tubes. It is scary and stressful time for you. I believe in the power of prayers. Your faith is going to carry you through this trying time. Keep up your positive attitude.

Thanks guys! This week has been a doozie and I am pooped out. Thank you for all of your prayers & hugs :) Dad should be coming home tomorrow evening. The doc says that men heal better at home than in the hospital. We'll have more info tomorrow. He was pretty uncomfortable today. Hopefully tomorrow will be better :)

From seeaprilrun on Mon, Mar 09, 2009 at 11:15:57 from 68.102.144.140

I just read through all this Marion! Keep resting and taking care of yourself! I hope your dad can continue to heal and get more comfortable.
