Not a great run today :(  My knee was sore/tender for the first whole mile, then it stopped, so I continued on, then about .2 later it got mad so I turned around and about a 1/4 mile later it was REALLY mad, so I walked :(  I am going to call Dr. Brady today.  My knee does not have to be perfect for the tri- I just have to be able to run 3 miles  :)  I knew I was in trouble when my knee started to yell at me on the second return trip across the reservoir on Monday afternoon.  There was nothing I could do, it was really a "sink or swim" kind of thing ;)  I guess I could have climbed on the HUGE log/tree we were pushing back to the kids, but if Luz's daughter Sage was too big to push, I think I am definitely TOO big to push.  I didn't say anything to Luz, Michelle or David, cause there was nothing to say about it.  Walking the stairs down from the reservoir was NO fun :p  Oh well, DARN knee/ITB is going to have to get over itself soon.  When will it learn that I am not going to give into its whiny, negative behavior???? ;D

Stupid knee! One of these days it has really GOT to learn...

Tahnks April :) Why does our body try to stop us. Won't it ever learn??? ;D

Poor Marion. Tell that knee to behave itself. You're the boss.

From marion on Wed, Sep 09, 2009 at 12:15:09 from 71.213.124.121

I know I'm a baby :( How are you??

From leslie peterson on Wed, Sep 09, 2009 at 12:48:45 from 76.23.61.78

Is your knee okay when you swim and bike?

From Carolyn in Colorado on Wed, Sep 09, 2009 at 13:45:22 from 198.241.174.15

You're not a baby. And I'm fine.

From marion on Wed, Sep 09, 2009 at 14:04:13 from 71.213.124.121

Bike fine, breaststroke no not so fine :(

Sorry to hear about your knee. The bad days help make the good days so much better. It's just that the bad days really stink!

RAD said you've got a wicked good recipe on your blog somewhere, so I'm on a scavenger hunt to find it.

Hope your knee listens to you tomorrow :-)

Ditto the ITB getting over itself. Somehow releasing it to the light is not helping. Think an adjustment is on the horizon. I hope yours gets over itself soon. Thanks for the update on the year for that video. Take care friend.

From RAD on Wed, Sep 09, 2009 at 18:40:30 from 76.27.12.70

STINK! What a cruddy thing to happen :( I wonder if there is a little more than ITB going on...have you seen a PT?

Just stay away from breaststroke on the tri - just 'fly' it! :)

From LuzyLew on Wed, Sep 09, 2009 at 18:52:01 from 208.187.197.42

My right knee got a little weird too toward the end of that swim--and I've felt it ever since, just a twinge. I figured it was 'just' swimming (so much better than running, right?) and so thought it would go away. But we were sort of dog paddling....bad form in really icy water. I hope it does't give you any trouble. I'm sorry to hear that.

Luz- I'm sorry about your knee :( They must have been in cahoots with each other ;( I have been thinking about "old" women like us ( tehehehehehehe) Anyway, I am thinking that it is really important for us, especially, to cross train regularly. I am forming a philosophy that our "old" parts don't like change and when we do something different, it ticks them off easier. I dunno, what do you think? Since my goal is to stay within my healthy BMI range for the rest of my life, and to be active everyday, I need to listen to my body and take care of it.

RAD, maybe... I do think I have been rolling to far forward toward my quads and I can't get my hip to quit being SO irritated. I need to go in.

Julie- I am SO glad that you mentioned that video. It really made me cry. Can you imagine how those poor women felt to be that close and have their bodies QUIT.

QP- Thanks :) the knee better get better. I hope you have fun with the recipe :)

Sorry to hear about the knee bothering you. I can relate. Time to rethink our plans.....

From marion on Thu, Sep 10, 2009 at 12:25:03 from 71.213.124.121

I know :( I may just have to suck it up and get a pass to the hotel pool for the winter and swim 3 times a week, bike when possible and run lower miles this winter. I'm not sure yet. We can hammer out some ideas/plans on Saturday.

From LuzyLew on Thu, Sep 10, 2009 at 13:21:33 from 208.187.197.42

I applaud all efforts to keep moving and doing. I had to spend 6 months last year in physical therapy and I bought myself a cheap stationary bike. I'll never regret the hours I spent sweating away on that thing. My Dad was a life-long runner, but when he found out I was running 6-8 miles a day he said that I should cut back. His reasoning was that by 40, you should do something that you WANT to do every single day for the rest of your life. If you do too much, you'll quit. I've decided that walking will be second to running, and if I can't walk then biking. But staying active in general, move! Walk everywhere you can, walk 10,000 steps a day, do 100 push ups 500 sit ups-- just do what you can and DO IT EVERY DAY. Aside from a massive stroke that suddenly took his health, my Dad lived by this philosphy and looked pretty darn good. We often joked that he was the best looking corpse anyone had ever seen.

Luz- GREAT advice :) I will live by it :) I do LOVE swimming and running and yoga and biking :) I wonder if there is a quadathlon I could do???

From Smooth on Thu, Sep 10, 2009 at 15:44:00 from 70.56.100.187

Sorry to hear the knee isn't behaving. Sounds like good plan to stay active by doing the things you like. I believe that if you don't use it, you'll loose it. Luz's dad had the right idea. If I die young, I die happy doing what I like to do! Keep on keepin', my sweet Marion!
