I started running in May of 2006 while losing 85 lbs after my youngest was born.  I have 6 fantastic kids, 3 girls and 3 boys and a wonderful husband.  My oldest is in college and my baby is in pre-school. (Six kids in 5 schools ;)

The swelling is going down :)  I am getting closer to my pre-marathon weight.  I was 10#'s up on Monday and now just 3.8#'s up. My left quad is quite tender to the top and outside. I am going to keep rolling it. David and I will go swimming for an hour tomorrow morning. The ITB on the left is still sore but less tender :)  Next week I will run :)  I CANT WAIT!!  This week, I just feel deep down that no running is the best.  I have been extra tired too.

Now for the exciting news.  I just made home made granola bars.  They are SO good!  I googled a recipe that my friend had made.  They are called "Playground Granola bars."  I followed it almost exctly except I used coconut oil and I doubled it and added 1 C ground flax seed meal,  and an extra egg.  Oh, I didn't have any rasins so I added chocolate chips :)  They are so GOOD!!  I need to stay away from them :)  I am going to lighten them up next time.  I will use dried cherries, mini chocolate chips, applesause for 1/2 of the oil and splenda brown sugar.  Today I did use Lehi Roller Mills 6 grain cereal instead of oats and whole wheat flour instead of white.  Mmmmm.....

Does anyone know why karob chips may be better than regular chocolate?

good news! Seems when I gain after a marathon, those pounds stick around alot longer. Lucky you!!!!

I think you're smart to rest and hold off running for a while longer, especially with the swelling and tenderness. You've got the rest of your life to run. Take a break this week.

Congratulations on the successful granola bars. I'm not much of a cook myself.

Dark chocolate is actually healthier than either carob or milk chocolate. Which is great news for me, as it is my favorite!

I guess the benefits of carob are that it has less sugar... and no caffeine. Typically carob is less processed. That's all I can think of.

Oh, and dogs can have carob. They can't have chocolate. So it's better in that respect.

Thanks girls. Rachel, I knew you'd know the Karob question. I am a dark chocolate lover too....actually ALL chocolate :) The dog thing is no longer an issue, besides, I don't like to share my chocolate with anyone, anyway ;)

Hey are you still working on the push ups? I've turned to jello personally, but i'd feel better if one of us were doing them (hey throw in a couple for me while you're at it). I'm doing my Kegal's - how many Kegal's to make a mile of cross training????

From RAD on Fri, Jun 19, 2009 at 02:13:34 from 67.166.99.8

Michelle, I can not stop laughing!!! "how many Kegal's is a xtraining mile?" hahahaha! I'm going to 'run a marathon' tomorrow as I sit in the car on the way to WBR :)

Marion - those granolas sound yummy...maybe that should be your treat for RHPC 1/2 marathon!!!

From marion on Fri, Jun 19, 2009 at 10:13:26 from 71.213.119.198

Michelle- My push ups are fading! but I did swim for 45 minutes this morning :) I kicked Double D's butt! He'll get me soon enough. He can still cream me in a race, but I can out distance him :)

Kegal's???? I don't know if it counts as cross training, but Paul should be thrilled ;0 Sorry... ;D

RAD- I will bring them for sure. I am making the low fat/cal version today. You should read my melting marion blog about the mishaps! :(

Laughing at the kegel workout. Poor guys - they don't have that option - do they? So sad (shaking head).

Marion - wise choice to rest until the swelling in that leg goes down. You want to make sure it is not injured.
