I started running in May of 2006 while losing 85 lbs after my youngest was born.  I have 6 fantastic kids, 3 girls and 3 boys and a wonderful husband.  My oldest is in college and my baby is in pre-school. (Six kids in 5 schools ;)

Well, I for sure have strained my left quad :(  I am guessing the soreness was masking the injury.  My fatal error was running early in the week and not realizing that my poor quad was hurt :(  The poor fellow.  I have been icing it and staying off of it for the last 20 hours and I will do more of the same tomorrow.  If it is not feeling somewhat better by Monday I will go in.  No wonder my left leg was so swollen.  All of the rubbing and stretching right after the marathon just aggravated it.  I needed ice and rest and I was beating it up.  Also the Aleve and tylenol was also masking the injury :(  Live and learn.  Once it is no longer painful to the touch and causing me to limp, I can swim and bike.

Here are my goals for the rest of the summer :)

Sub 29 5k

Sub 60 10k

September tri

Within the year

2:0_ 1/2 marathon

next marathon sub 5

The reason for the Tri is to give my body a nice rebuiding/healing 8 weeks without losing fitness and while having a fun goal.  I have to set "fun" goals, as I tend to really freak out and stress, over stress really, and the "fun" aspect takes my mind off of the "freaky" parts and helps me to relax.  I am working on a training schedule in excel.  I will bike 2 days a week with Joycelyn (13+miles) and swim 3 days (1 hour).  I will run 6 days, 1 long, one 5 miler w/ a 5k tempo, 3 easy/low mile days, and one day I have not figured out.  I may do a run down the canyon one day a week.

Dang it! Do take it easy Marathon girl, and you will be back in no time!!! This was a crappy day for running anyway, I hope you have a good DVD and some yummy treats to chill with!!

My son is doing his bike stunt show today, and I am scared sick he will slip and kill himself. Moisture is overrated.

Sorry about the poor quad boy! I hope that you're feeling better and back in tri-training shape soon!!! You have an amazing plan and I am SUPER excited to see you achieve them ALL!!!

I love all of your goals! You are unbelievable, and it looks like you really are an inspiration to all. I wish I had the motivation to train for a tri!

Hope the leg gets better soon... gotta hate it when your legs don't have the same motivation as the rest of you!

Please take care of that quad, we don't want it to get any worse. I think that your goals for the rest of the summer are fabulous! Keep doin' what you're doin' girl.

Sorry to hear about the Quazy Quad.... You sound like you have your plan under control - just make sure you stick with your plan. Let it heal so you can PR in your RHP half.

I am feeling pretty winey about the quad. It hurts :( After the next marathon (yes, I am committed to another ;) I will not run if anything is swollen and I will just take a whole week off and do NOTHING!!! ;) No kneeling for prayers for sure ;)

On a lighter note, we just got back from the Proposal. It was cute. I am off to bed :) I am going to lay in bed all day tomorrow and see if that helps the leg. I can't seem to stay down very well :p

Sorry about the quad. It should calm down soon.

Michelle- any ideas about swimming or biking?

From MichelleL on Sun, Jun 21, 2009 at 21:46:19 from 71.35.250.200

You mean for the next week or for training for the tri? I don't know much about training for tris, but I would say to go ahead and swim this week, but only use legs lightly until the quad is feeling just sore, instead of torn. It depends on how damaged you think your quad is. I'd ask dr. b. about how much to do this week if you end up going in.

From marion on Sun, Jun 21, 2009 at 22:18:38 from 71.213.113.143

It is causing a limp and feels tenuous to use. I'd better just go in and see him or I will second guess myself to death and drive myself nut
