Well- I headed out for a cute five miler (32 degrees) and darn it if the road isn't an ice skating rink.  It looks like it had a thin layer of water- but no it's ice.  I made it a block and almost slipped twice, so I will go after school.  I am not sure if it rained or what.  It is 32 degrees outside, so that is a possibility.  Oh well.  ;D  I wanted to run after school, but didn't want to be a wimp.  For safety's sake, I am going to have to go with WIMP!!!

Anna, my 16 year old, can't breathe at all.  She has been using the nebulizer since last night and I am going to take her in the the doc this morning.  I may have to send her to Park City to stay with my SIL's parents.  We'll see what the Doc says.

*** 41 degrees- the run was going to be boring until Kim drove by and came along for 4 of my miles :D  The air is CRAP!  It needs to storm Saturday afternoon through Sunday morning to clear everything up.  This will also make it so the roads are clear for the Monday run :)

59:27, Ave 12:27, best 8:25, Splits- 15:14(returned a video to the library that I found in the road on yesterdays run), 12:24, 11:45, 11:05, 11:52

bad food day.  Why am I compelled to eat whatever is placed before me?  ...or left on the seat beside me?  I am a wimp!

Sorry to hear about your daughter's breathing issues.

I heard the other day that the fog caused by the inversion is causing ice crystals on the road - so that is what is causing the slippery stuff.

From The Howling Commando on Thu, Jan 22, 2009 at 10:26:24

Eek ! Ice skating?! Runners don't ice skate! (at least not on purpose!)

From snoqualmie on Thu, Jan 22, 2009 at 10:31:01

I guess ice is the one thing we cannot "tough out." Hope you get some better conditions soon!

From leslie on Thu, Jan 22, 2009 at 10:53:43

You crazy girl for going out, I should beat you!!

I hope you can get Anna up to Park City soon! You should run up there Sat. with Maurine and I.

From Kylee on Thu, Jan 22, 2009 at 11:30:08

How scary about the ice. I hate it when the melt-off turns into ice overnight. What is wrong with Anna? Does she have croup or something? Let me know if we can do anything to help. Did I tell you my dad has AML? (acute myeloid leukemia) We find out more details tomorrow.

From Marion on Thu, Jan 22, 2009 at 12:06:09

Kylee- WHAT?!? Oh no- I am SO sorry Kylee! Please let me know what you find out tomorrow! DARN IT!!!

From Metcalf Running on Thu, Jan 22, 2009 at 13:24:01

I'm glad you didn't fall, ice is never fun! This crappy air is no fun at all, I hope you daughter will be OK.

From Megan on Thu, Jan 22, 2009 at 13:34:37

Hey Marion! Nice run on your St. George half! You have some awesone goals this year for racing... you go girl! I like your new profile pix. Just wanted to stop in a say hi.

I have been pretty sick for sevral weeks, big bummer.

Stay warm... and don't slip on that ice, lol.

From Smooth on Thu, Jan 22, 2009 at 14:12:15

So sorry to hear about Anna's breathing (er, not breathing) problem. This pea soup air is evil. I hope the doc. has some answers.

Yikes, watch out for those ice puddles. I slipped a few times yesterday too. They're melted snow that froze overnight and do look like water. BE CAREFUL out there, IQ (ice queen)!!!

From Marion on Thu, Jan 22, 2009 at 14:47:16

It has actually been raining down here. The cars are all ice covered and strange looking. I just got back from a meeting and everything seems to be melted now. I am looking forward to my run.

Anna is doing much better. She's a bit dramatic and just needed a new rescue inhaler :) She's back at school and everything :)

From Teena on Thu, Jan 22, 2009 at 15:50:33

Glad to hear that Anna is doing better. Last night was awful, both my son and I had major breathing problems. Stupid inversion!!

Be careful Marion ... no falling allowed!!

From Kelli on Thu, Jan 22, 2009 at 18:12:57

I have never seen the air look so gross, EVER! It stings my eyes. Time to stay inside for sure! Hope it clears out soon for Anna, it is hard!! Good luck on your run, hopefully the ice has melted.

From kelsey on Thu, Jan 22, 2009 at 19:24:36

You are definitely not a wimp! You run in weather I wouldn't even walk outside in!

I feel ya on the food thing. My brother got me a quesadilla maker for Christmas and I am living off the things. It's gross but I can't help myself.

I plan on trying out for the Red Hot Pink Chicks at an upcoming race! If I do I'll post a picture to make it official!

From Marion on Thu, Jan 22, 2009 at 19:59:32

Kelsey- You are going to be a FAB Red Hot Pink Chick!!! Gizmo girl makes GREAT hot pink running socks :) Good luck with the quesadilla maker. I'd feel worse for you if I didn't know you struggle to keep yourself over 100#'s ;)

Megan- YOUR ALIVE!! I am so sad that you have been sick :( That is such a bummer :( You've got some time before Boston, so hang tough sister :)

Smooth- You are my brave winter running example. You are my idol! It actually rained here in the early mornings creating an ice rink on all the walks and roads. Kinda cool so long as you don't have to go out! :) My afternoon run was 41 degrees.. NICE :) Do you realize that we are on the down side of winter :D

Kelli- Oh skinny one with GREAT hair- The roads were great this afternoon and my eyes watered less than normal. Anna is doing better, but now Mac looks like he is having an allergic reaction. WE NEED A STORM!!! (did I just say that?)

Teena- I am sorry about your kids! Kids and NOT breathing do not mix well. Thank heavens they let us have nebulizers at home these days! :) I didn't slip on my warm run this afternoon!

Lori- Thanks! How is the shin?

Sno- you are SO right- there is no toughing out an ice skating rink! ONe of my neighbors broke both of her wrists a few years ago on a day like this. There was nothing but beautiful clear roads this afternoon at 40 degrees. The air quality is HORRID, but you can't have it all! Our canyon is closed or I'd go above it all :D

Benn- funny that you mention ice skating. I actually used to compete when I was a kid. Maybe I should just break out the skates ;)

Maurine- Did you guys get rain? We had rain in the early morning and then off and on until about 1. Strange. I am not sure it helped the air quality. Hey Sasha recommend that I run my long runs at 10mm until failure and then jog the rest of the mileage. Have you tried this? Any pointers? I am a little scared :) I am going to start it next week.

Leslie- I am very tempted to join you in Park City, except I have a RS thing and I am only running 5 miles. Next week I'll be going 8 :)

From Marion on Thu, Jan 22, 2009 at 20:09:28

PS- I love you all!!! xoxoxoxoxo

From The Howling Commando on Thu, Jan 22, 2009 at 20:17:50

You aren't a wimp at all you are amazing! I eat like junk each and every day lol. You are entitled to a slip up now and then with all the superb stuff you do!

And yes, you should break out the skates. Full out speed skater marion that's what you'll be! Give Apollo Anton Ohno a run for his money!

From Marion on Thu, Jan 22, 2009 at 20:26:54

I fear that skating will be just like biking- a bit scarier than I remember and a LOT faster ;)

From nfroerer on Thu, Jan 22, 2009 at 22:37:48

Marion. a great Angel Food Cake - is my motivation. You are brave - I can't even make it out of my driveway without slipping all over. Phoenix was great you should consider it - it's nice to get some warmth every once in a while. It does the body good.

From Kelli on Thu, Jan 22, 2009 at 22:58:59

We did not get any of that freezing rain, I think it was just in Utah county!!

I combusted, just so you know, and I ate a bunch of Laffy Taffy and then two bowls of spaghetti and 3 granola bars. And all I can think of is that I want more food!!! Time to go to bed...

For the record, I totally think you could do 10mm, give it a try and you will see!!!
