I started running in May of 2006 while losing 85 lbs after my youngest was born.  I have 6 fantastic kids, 3 girls and 3 boys and a wonderful husband.  My oldest is in college and my baby is in pre-school. (Six kids in 5 schools ;)

What a GLORIOUS run!  I warmed up on the treadmill walking, then stretched and then headed out.  It was SO nice out.  I was really naughty and ran 4 miles.  My knee was fine until the end o mile 3.  It got really mad at me, so I stopped and stretched my hips really well.  The knee behaved for the next half mile with a little squawking at 3.5 miles.  I stretched again and ran home and stretched some more.

Happy New Year!!!

*** Adventures in sledding with Michelle & Luz

Some say that sledding is fun.  Some say that sledding is dangerous and only for the fools of the world.  I say that I am an idiot and sledding is fun... if you don't get hurt!  I took my first run, in probably 20 years, down a road that is closed in the winter due to its steep slope.  The locals of Woodland Hills use it for sledding, I'd say ultimate sledding.  I was on Ben's little blue saucer.  Well, I immediately ended up sledding backwards. About half way down the hill, on one side, there is a HUGE jump.  I hit the jump pretty square on, getting some serious air landing pretty flat with a little accent on my left sits bone... OUCH!  The teenagers just below the jump looked at me in awe, probably wondering if I was going to burst into tears.  I just gave them a thumbs up, they cheered and I went the rest of the way down.  At the bottom, there is a little snow ridge, made for stopping, that I just plowed through onto the road below, STILL BACKWARDS!  Even though I was on the asphalt, I was still moving FAST.  The only thing I could think of to do to stop, was to just flatten myself out.  This eventually stopped me, but my coat is pretty trashed.  I am very glad I had on a fur lined suede coat, or I'd have some good road rash.  Oh the joys of a family outing :)  I am feeling OK right now, except it really hurts to sit, or stand, or bend.  I can't wait to see what tomorrow brings :)  Life is good!  Oh, and I did do more sledding runs.  My husband watched my whole first run and was pretty sure I was finished for the day after the jump, but no not me!  I need to learn how to ski!

I am no longer an idiot. I was marred for life at the ripe old age of 6. Just this morning Josse asked "What's that scar on your forehead?" Answer: "I crashed into a tree while sledding." I needed 16 stitches and I also knocked out my baby teeth, actually they were dangling. Had to visit the ER and the dentist all in one night. The Dr. was drunk, so he did a poor job. This was back in N.H. where I grew up. Kids at school were fascinated by the bandana I wore over it (I looked like a pirate) so of course I charged money (jk) for the viewing of the demise. So whenever I watch America's funniest Videos I cringe when they show the sledding accidents. It really hurts. I definitely cried. My dad fainted. My mom, a nurse, took care of the situation :D.

Man, we had joy, we had fun, we had seasons in the sun....that was some good sledding. My only regret is not being there earlier to do more of it, and to see 'air Marion' slide into the asphalt. I hope that jacket cleans up ok, and that you're hip is ok today. I had so much fun. Next time though, I might bring a helmet. Thanks for inviting me to come, and for making me, yet again Utah's biggest loser. I just can't win....remember if you ever want to feel good about yourself, to invite me over to play cards :) And yes, you do need to learn to ski ! It's the second best way to wreck your knees.
