I started running in May of 2006 while losing 85 lbs after my youngest was born.  I have 6 fantastic kids, 3 girls and 3 boys and a wonderful husband.  My oldest is in college and my baby is in pre-school. (Six kids in 5 schools ;)

Yesterday, suddenly, there appeared a race starting line in front of my house!  I tried to find out what it was and had no luck until this morning.  I guess Payson is starting a new Memorial Day 5k :)  I ran the route at 6am and found the organizers as I finished.  The route is HORRIBLE!  It is from my house, up a very steep short hill, then up the canyon road for a mile and a 1/2.  Then it is a gradual down hill until the last 1/2 mile which is very steep for about .2 and then more gradual for the last bit.  Anyone who came for a good time is going to be very sad unless they are a billy goat ;)

I would have LOVED to have run this race, but I did not know about it until it was too late.  We met my family over at my parents for a yard work session.  He is still recovering very well, but won't be cleared for 100% all day labor until September :(  Anyway, we are home now and I am pooped.  I want to go run a bit more.  I guess I will.  I ate too many of these SUPER yummy Smore rice crispy treats and need more miles.

I have really been babying myself and need to get the cardio up a titch.  What are everyones favorite way to taper for a marathon?  Our 20 miler is Monday, and then I have until the 13th for the marathon.  Can I bike during the taper?  Swim?

*** I went out for another 5k this afternoon.  11:32 pace  It was nice and I feel great!  The creek is running and so I got to soak my feet :)  Yippee for spring :D

Isn't Labor Day in September? That would be perfect if it was.

Yes Burt, it is ;) This year will be really symbolic for him, I suppose ;)

Marion - for your first marathon I wouldn't do too much extra than your usual activities for the taper. Short bike rides are okay since you already do them. The idea is to let the muscles and tendons heal. Overdoing them a different way prevents that.

I like the idea of tapering with cookies, but I'm not the best example in that regard.

I think it would be cool to have a race start in front of my house, but it never will. I live too out of the way.

CArolyn- My neighbors really thought that I painted it myself ;) I am going to use it everyday until it is gone ;) Funny about the pinewood Derby- I just started with my first last month ;)

Maurine- Thanks for the advice. I am going to follow it :)

How fun!! We have a 5K route around the 'hood for a stake 5K, but it doesn't start in front of my house :( Were you able to get out and cheer on all the crazy runners? You should've shared some of your smores rice krispies to give them the energy to get past billy goat gruff :)

RAD- We had to leave before the race started :( I REALLY wanted to run it. Some runner did leave a 1/2 full Rock Star drink by my flowers ;) YUMMMmm :p
