Nothing today.  My hip was really bugging me last night :(  It has been great for a while now and was quite surprised that it was hurting again :(  I got up and iced it.  It feels ok this morning :)  I have a migraine today too.  Probably from the glare of the rooster! ;D  See y'all in the morning :)  Drive safe and call me if you have any questions :)

Oh my GOSH!!!  I just got an email from a woman who's 3rd great grandfather was owned by my 4th great grandfather.  Her email was VERY nice, but my heart just broke and I FEEL horrible.  I cried for days when I found out that my family had slaves, but to actually receive an email from one of their descendants was very strange and and made my heart hurt.  What do I say to her????

I'm sorry to hear about the migraine. Take it easy today. I wish I could be at your race tomorrow. Maybe some other time.

I'm sure you'll find something very nice to say to the woman who sent you the email. It's not your fault that your ancestors owned slaves.

We will miss you tomorrow! You are going to be SO sad you are not here to win the rooster! I will send you a pic right now ;)

I stayed up last night researching the will she sent me. I found more than a dozen more family members of ours last night and another contact to help me straighten out that g-g-g-grandfather of mine :) I am always SO surprised at how a little speck of information opens up a whole TRUCK load of more sweet family members :) It's such a GREAT hobby :)

You'd better get that hip ready for tomorrow! That rooster's providing me a lot of motivation, but I think he wants to stay with you and his brother! :)

Have fun on your half-marathon tomorrow! I can't wait to read all the reports. Wish I could be there!

That is a very moving story. You are a sweetheart to take it the way you did. But of course we are only responsible for ourselves. You're a bridge of peace just by being who you are. :)

That's a pretty interesting turn of events. My family from the South, but most were sharecroppers and so not wealthy enough to 'own' anyone--so in retrospect, I guess that's good. Our family secret is that someone 2 generations down was 'passing' (which means, a an african-american light enough to pass as white and marry white) and so we have that in our line. Just be grateful those are not issues we face with such magnitude today, thanks to many brave people who lived and died to see things change for the better in the past 50 years.

Thanks ladies :) I really wonder what I would have thought about slavery if I had been born way back then. I suppose that is what really bothers me. Am I the way I am naturally, or am I the way I am because I was taught? It makes me think. I just have always wondered why anyone thought that they could "own" someone? I remember seeing Roots when I was a kid and just being SO upset by it.
