Bad news.  David fell from the roof last night and landed on the driveway.  He has a few serious fractures.  His calcaneus is pretty much shattered and his distal fibula is broken along with all of the ligaments that hold the ankle together.  He will have surgery to put it all back together hopefully next Friday.  We have to wait and see how it heals before they proceed.  He has to be totally off of the leg with the foot elevated until the surgery and for at least two weeks after.  Then he will be in a wheel chair or knee scooter for at least 12 weeks.  Then I guess some kind of boot or somehting.  They will screw the bones all back together and try to repair the joint as best they can.  They will use bone grafts to fill in the parts where the bone fragments are too small to salvage.  The doc is confident that they will get all of the ligaments back where they go.  This surgery is very much a "we'll just have to see how it goes" kind of thing.  He will hopefully be able to return to work in 3 weeks.

Please pray that it all goes perfectly well.  This type of surgery carries a high risk of bone infection along with many less than favorable outcomes.

Not good news at all! So sorry, Marion! Here is to a speedy recovery and to good pain killers! Yikes!

:(

I have been praying. There is such a wide swing in what the outcomes can be. God willing, David will be on the good side of the healing and success of procedures.

Oh Marion I'm so sorry to hear about this... your family will be in my thoughts and prayers, so a safe and speedy recovery. Keep us posted on his progress.

I keep wincing thinking of loose bone fragments floating around in his heal. I wish they could operate sooner. I'm looking forward to helping Annalisa tomorrow. Hope you did some good retail therapy today. Kiss David for us and tell him we're thinking about him. Good luck with the next week.

Thanks guys! :) He was feeling a bit more chipper today until he tripped and fell in the bathroom this afternoon. The poor guy is also feeling the soreness all over his body from the fall, in general. I can't imagine how bad he must feel. I turn into a huge baby when I stub my baby toe.

Thank you for the prayers and thoughts. the kids are enjoying the groceries that Michelle brought by. The sugar(crap) cereal is a HUGE hit!!! You'd think I never shop ;)

ps- Will is trying to put sugar on his coco puffs! MAN!

Oh man, I'm sorry to hear that. On a positive side my brother did all that but the bones came through the skin while in a dirty river and came out of it pretty darn good. So I have high hopes for David because I know it can be done! Good luck with everything!

My thoughts and prayers are with you guys. I wish I had known you were in my area and could have cheered you up. Except, of course, I was in Michigan that week and wouldn't have been any use.
