OK- I am a total DORK!  I decided to RUN to the pool and then swim and then RUN home.  STUPID!!  First of all, by the time I got UP-HILL to the pool, I could hardly run, let alone SWIM!  Plus, have you ever tried running in a swimming suit?  Can you say WEDGIE!!!!  More like COSMIC WEDGIE!!!  Anyway, I swam and swam and swam!  I swam for a 1/2 hour.  I swam REAL LIVE regulation strokes!  I CAN SWIM!!! :D  So, now I am all psyched for the Tri this september.  I need a new swimming suit, but that is a story for another day.

Soreness report- everything felt fine on the run, a little rickety and tender, but not too bad.  My right hip/ITB is still quite sore and inflamed.  I am going to continue to stretch and roll it out.  The chiropractor who stretched me out after the marathon said that my right IT was so tight you could string it on a guitar and play a song.

Tomorrow I am not sure what I am going to do next.  I might just bike or maybe run or maybe swim or maybe all three.  I am insane afterall,  I'm a marathoner now :D

I am really trying hard to talk myself NOT into doing TOU.  There is the HUGE part of me who says, "You just need an 18 miler in July and a 20 miler in August and then just run TOU.  YOU ARE 90% there already."   Then there is the rational part of me... well the other, probably smarter rational part of me... who says, "You are very likley on the brink of injury.  Swim, bike and run easy for the rest of the summer.  Bike and run through the fall.  Run through the winter and CHILL!!!!"

hummmm..... I wonder who Marion will listen to....the good Marion or the bad Marion????

Glad you are feeling perky and enjoying the pool!!!

Doesn't life look different as a marathon runner? I need to remember that feeling, like you can conquer the world!!

From Kelsey on Tue, Jun 16, 2009 at 13:43:35 from 75.151.192.206

Bathing suit wedgie.... ugh!!!! I tried swimming as cross training, and although I consider myself a somewhat "strong" swimmer, I probably look like I am drowning myself with my disgusting form.

I completely understand your feelings... the hardest part of being a marathoner in my opinion is not running another a month or so later. You are in such good shape you don't want to give it up! I know my body couldn't handle it though, but listen to yours and do what it says. After all, people on this blog have done much crazier things!

I am trying (rather unsuccessfully) to recruit people to come to Orlando and do Disney in January. You know you want to! Or at least your kids want you to! (Although I guess that means training through the winter, you ice queen).

Sorry that was so long!

From Carolyn in Colorado on Tue, Jun 16, 2009 at 14:12:44 from 198.241.217.15

I'm having the same argument with myself. But so far the "run another" Carolyn is winning. But I'm a lousy swimmer, if you can even call it that, so a summer of swimming is out of the question.

From marion on Tue, Jun 16, 2009 at 15:09:35 from 71.213.119.198

Kelsey- My kids all want to go and so do the neighbor kids :)

Leslie- the reasonable Marion is going to win. I am going to have to get a grip!!!

Carolyn- Which one are you going to run?

From Carolyn in Colorado on Tue, Jun 16, 2009 at 15:11:30 from 198.241.156.7

Well, I was reasonable enough to not plan another trip to Utah, which is an expense and requires time off work. Instead, I am staying close to home (can sleep in my own bed the night before the race) and running the American Discovery Trail marathon in Colorado on Labor Day.

Cool! I think that is one of the reasons I loved UVM. It was 15 minutes from my very own bed :) I really like that :)

CHILL cosmic wedgie woman!

From argentinerocket on Tue, Jun 16, 2009 at 16:13:18 from 74.9.147.114

Hahahaha I see a new blog title: Marathon Cosmic Wedgie Marion!!!

From Smooth on Tue, Jun 16, 2009 at 16:22:59 from 71.36.79.7

Marathon Marion, listen to the wise one. Now is NOT the time to decide what to do, not yet. Give it a week. Life after marathon can be very distorted. Hehehehe!

From RAD on Tue, Jun 16, 2009 at 17:44:34 from 67.166.99.8

Marion, I understand your want/need to do another. People had told me I'd never want to run another in my life, but even right after I was ready to sign the dotted line!!! However, I am honestly enjoying some Saturdays, sleeping in AND getting some cross training and strengthening in (ITB, Ankles etc) so I can be a faster/stronger runner. Remember, its not always about the mileage. You've gotten that one under your belt now work on some speed/form/strength etc to get a new perspective.

At least this is what I'm trying to convince myself of!!! Nice job swimming by the way a full 1/2 hour of swim is incredible! You'll rock your tri!

From marion on Tue, Jun 16, 2009 at 18:29:46 from 71.213.119.198

Thanks Lucia- GREAT IDEA!!!

Smooth- I am totally addicted. You warned me... I did not believe you... oh am I in trouble!!1

Rachel- you and I are going to be SO smart! You are SO wise!

From The Howling Commando on Tue, Jun 16, 2009 at 18:46:40 from 72.224.24.41

I think we all know that MARION does not "just chill". You are like a howling commando chica. You train and fight and take no prisoners. You will slice and dice the next race just like the marathon. You are making me get my butt in gear! I feel lazy compared to you!

From marion on Tue, Jun 16, 2009 at 18:50:07 from 71.213.119.198

Benn- you are too kind. If you saw how MESSY my house was, you'd DIE! ...or maybe you would be so kind to help me clean it :) I should spend less time blogging and more time CLEANING!... but y'all are SO much more fun than laundry :)

What is your next event, Benn?

From The Howling Commando on Tue, Jun 16, 2009 at 19:21:24 from 72.224.24.41

I am not very picky when it comes to peoples houses. My only saving grace was the yardsale last month where we got rid of a bunch of stuff. So long as yummy bread is in order I'll clean your house! :-D

As far as my next event, I am giving Nevels a hard time but he is gracious enough to be coaching me towards getting back to longer and longer runs.

I am thinking about doing the Every other monday 5k trail runs that I used to do before my injury. They are only $3 or $4 entry fees. Nothing fancy, but it's so nice to run with other people since I rarely get that luxury.

I really want to do a half marathon or full marathon in the fall. I am thinking the half marathon will be more feasible since I am so out of shape! It will be at the Mohawk Hudson River Marathon in Albany (one of the fastest courses in the country!). I truly believe it will be at this marathon that I will eventually qualify for Boston (even if I am like 97 and a half when I do it!)

From Kelli on Tue, Jun 16, 2009 at 20:27:16 from 71.219.76.64

Benn, I am going to come watch you run Boston when you are 97 and a half. How old will I be?

From The Howling Commando on Tue, Jun 16, 2009 at 20:41:09 from 72.224.24.41

Kelli - When I'm 97 and a half I think that would make you like 29? ;) (I learned early never to comment on a young lady's age hehe). I just hope I one day can qualify for Boston! It's just a 3:10 marathon seems so daunting for sure.

As far as sky diving concerned, Marion, start with bungee jumping!

From Kelli on Tue, Jun 16, 2009 at 20:55:22 from 71.219.76.64

I am thinking I would be more like 129!!!

From auntieem on Wed, Jun 17, 2009 at 10:38:45 from 67.182.145.8

That post made me laugh out loud! I have never done a triathalon, but, honestly, its the clothing issues that get me thinking. I can just imagine myself getting OUT of the water and running with the wedgie!

I'm so totally impressed that you are so charging just after your first marathon! Really inspiring. Haven't run one yet myself, just training.

Go girl!

From Jason McK on Wed, Jun 17, 2009 at 11:32:14 from 63.255.173.99

Good luck deciding. After I run a marathon, I stay excited about training for 6-8 weeks, it seems like waiting 3-4 months 'til the next one is too long. I guess that I am relatively new to marathoning, so you should probably take everyone elses' advice about waiting to decide, but I'm sigting up for the TOU half and TOU full today, so I say GO FOR IT!
