I started running in May of 2006 while losing 85 lbs after my youngest was born.  I have 6 fantastic kids, 3 girls and 3 boys and a wonderful husband.  My oldest is in college and my baby is in pre-school. (Six kids in 5 schools ;)

The soreness is pretty much totally gone :)  My left leg is still really swollen and my right hip is uncomfortable.  My weight is coming down, but not like I would have expected.  I still must have a lot of micro injuries that are holding onto the water for repair ;)  I have not been eating nearly the fruit over the past few days, mainly just carbs and a little protein.  I am off to the store to get me some good grub.  I am sure I have been lacking in the h2o department too.  I have been really sluggish and I am sure that is due to the lack of fruit and veggies... oh and running a marathon.  I wanted to go swimming this morning at 6, but thought that the sleep was more important.  I am going to take it really easy today and see if I can get the leg swelling down a bit.  It is coming down, but VERY slowly.  As a side note, when ever I was pregnant, only my left leg would swell.  Weird eh?  It does not hurt, it's just swollen :(

Wise decision. Push the water today and put your legs up some to see if that helps.

That is weird. Only one leg swells?...Haha that must feel odd. Give yourself all the rest you need!

Yeah- when I am pregnant the doc just figures that the baby sits more on one side than the other. There must be some inflammation in my hip or thigh that is more swollen on the left or maybe my anatomy is asymmetrical. It's pretty funny, cause I can push on the swelling and it leave indents that you could serve olives in ;) I was a parlor trick with my last pregnancy ;)

I want a picture of your parlor trick.

It sounds like you're recovering well, but you're smart to take it easy today. Sleep, ah, sleep.

Glad to hear the soreness is about gone, I bet the swelling will go down soon too.

I tried a new recipe last night, that I thought I would pass on. I stir fried in coconut oil some diced patatos, zuchini, onion, celery and green peppers and seasoned them. Then I made a cup of quinoa in my rice cooker and after it was cooked stirred in 3 tablespoons of peanut butter and a few nuts, I used pecans. Then served the veggies over the quinoa. I thought it was so yummy, I loved the peanut butter and a hint of coconut. Harold thought it was alittle dry but it was a winner in my book.

I think I just found dinner tonight! Thanks Leslie. Marion, I am so glad you're starting to feel better and enjoying the after-race glow..err, well should I say swell? :) Keep eating well and drinking WATER, swimming always seems to help pull out water weight for me!

From LuzyLew on Thu, Jun 18, 2009 at 12:15:47 from 69.169.165.206

ok now I'm a little worried. Leg swelling/edema isn't good. I can't imagine you'd be pregnant, but stranger things have happened. In the meantime, up with fruit, and H20.

From marion on Thu, Jun 18, 2009 at 14:42:21 from 71.213.119.198

The edema is ONLY after long runs or if I am VERY sore. That leg that is swollen is the same one that my quad is VERY tender. I am losing about 1.5 pounds per day (I was up 10 on Monday and am now only up 3.8) IF there is a problem, I think I am in the beginning stages. I really do feel like the LONG runs are interfering with my kidney function. Gatorade seems to be a problem for me too.

I am peeing tons more today :)

26 days of rest after a marathon! or so I have heard.

You are doing great, and it is such a nice day when you do not have to scream to sit on the toilet!
