Yes, you read that right- 17.2 miles!  THANK YOU LUZ!!!!!  Our average was12:12, which is what I was hoping for.  Anything in the the low 12's would have been GREAT!!  It took us 3:30 (the time is from Luz's garmin- her's pauses when we do- mine does not :( ).  Last night I texted Luz to see if she wanted some SLOW company for our 17 miler today.  Fortunately for me she said YES!!!  Luz is the most amazing person EVER!!!  We met at Willie's Pit Stop in  Provo and ran up the canyon just a 1/2 mile past Vivian park for our seventeen out and back.  That last 1/2 mile up the south fork was TOUGH!!!  I took shock blocks and 2 gu's and 2 tylenol.  I drank a ton of water and am planning on a ice bath as soon as I am not freezing anymore.  I really don't want an ice bath, but I am quite sure I need to take one if I am going to make this an injury free training session.  My left calf started to bug on the way back down :(   I am going to stretch it and may go see Dr Brady if it so much as twinges.  We saw JonA on the trail :)  FUN to see friends!

These are my splits, but they include stops.  12:41, 13:05, 12:40, 13:17, 13:12, 12:39, 12:40, 13:28, 12:29, 12:25, 10:55, 11:27, 12:39, 12:25, 11:55, 11:51, 11:22,

17.2! That's awesome! When is your marathon? Let me know how that ice bath works out. I've had a couple people tell me I should do that and I'm...uh...scared :) brrr

From RAD on Sat, Apr 18, 2009 at 21:21:12 from 67.166.99.8

NICE JOB!! Those long milers get really long without good company. Hope that ice bath rejuvenated you and you're ready for another fun filled week! At least it'll be nice weather :)

I chickened out on the ice bath :( I was already TOO cold and couldn't bring myself to get in! I am such a WIMP!!!!

Thanks guys! I am feeling pretty excited about the marathon (june 13th)

From rattletrap on Sat, Apr 18, 2009 at 22:06:49 from 24.19.93.139

Don't feel bad, you're not the only one too chicken to get in a tub full of ice water :)

From Marion on Sat, Apr 18, 2009 at 22:16:00 from 71.213.110.178

RT- the secret to the ice bath is this- Put on a knit cap, gloves, shirt & hoodie. Sit in tub, with NO water. Fill with cold water while sitting in tub. then once you've got all your water, have someone add ice, SLOWLY- no splashing! If you have no partner in crime, fill a bowl with ice and set it next to the tub to add at the precise time :) I stay in until the ice melts- about 15 minutes. I stop shivering wildly after about 10 minutes. I REALLY helps with soreness and speeded recovery :)

There is NO WAY I would ever do that!

Way to go!!! You are so tough, I have never been brave enough to do an ice bath. Great miles this week! You go girl!

From JulieC on Sun, Apr 19, 2009 at 14:35:14 from 71.35.213.13

What a great course you chose. Up and then down, so rewarding. "Rocky" like when you make it to the halfway point and get to turn to go ahhhhhh downhill from here!! You are doing so awesome HOT PINK CHICK!!!!

From JulieC on Sun, Apr 19, 2009 at 14:48:39 from 71.35.213.13

Oh and about ice baths. In the early spring I do this cause the weather is just too cold still. I take a very warm/hot shower to dethaw and then I turn my shower back to the coldest point gradually from midpoint until it is freezing and I just do my legs one at a time leaning into the shower wall to not freak the upper part of my body out as it is, especially my spine. I first due my hamstrings for about 1-2minutes then feet, then turn while to do the front while at times lifting my legs to get every area I can. It works better this way since you warmed up so well your body/mind is "cool" with it (I did this after my 17 miler this week and had no soreness!!). Later in the summer I wear a sweat shirt in the tub starting with putting the water at lukewarm then colder and colder. Then, I have my husband poor in the ice cubes as many as I can get cause they melt fast even though I had it on cold for a while. Again not as much shock with a sweatshirt on. Lastly, stopping at the riverwoods in the provo river where the half marathon ends (behind the theatre) is the absolutely the coldest most scenic way to do the ice bath in the Summer. It helps as you slowly let yourself down in it plus you are dressed so some of the shock is absorbed.

From Burt on Mon, Apr 20, 2009 at 17:01:46 from 68.76.197.194

From rattletrap on Mon, Apr 20, 2009 at 17:11:59 from 70.192.240.252

From Marion on Mon, Apr 20, 2009 at 17:22:08 from 71.213.110.25

Hi Teena! It was fine yesterday, but a bit twingie today. I am going to leave it alone and see if it will be ok for a short run tomorrow am. Have you talked to Susanna?

From Teena on Mon, Apr 20, 2009 at 17:33:02 from 67.177.20.13

Very smart!

From Burt on Mon, Apr 20, 2009 at 17:33:46 from 68.76.197.194

The worst thing that could happen to you is to wake up in a cold sweat after having a dream like that.

From Burt on Mon, Apr 20, 2009 at 17:38:08 from 68.76.197.194

Why didn't I get an email notification that Walter had entered this conversation? Did you block me or something Walter? Just for that I'm going to comment on your blog.

Marion,

Just talked to Smooth! She sounds AWESOME!!! She is having such a great time!

From leslie on Mon, Apr 20, 2009 at 17:56:42 from 76.23.61.78

Oh, I am dieing to hear how she did!!!

From Teena on Mon, Apr 20, 2009 at 17:59:46 from 67.177.20.13

Leslie, she ran a 4:02 (needed a 4:05 to re-qualify). She was constantly running different stretches of the race dedicating them to someone specific. She felt grateful the entire time. She kicked trash on the Newton Hills and finished super strong!!

From Marion on Mon, Apr 20, 2009 at 18:06:30 from 71.213.110.25

I got the updates for her times texted to me by the marathon. I am SO glad she re qualified and is happy :)

From leslie on Mon, Apr 20, 2009 at 18:26:01 from 76.23.61.78

GREAT NEWS!! Thanks for the update Teena!
