I had a smoothie before work for dinner and that just isn't enough fuel for the morning run.  The last half mile felt like I had just run a race.  I will remember to eat a bowl of cereal before bed if I have a pansy dinner.

On the more exciting note- the weight is moving down.  I am 1 pound away from 12#'s lost (since I joined the blog) so it is getting time for another 5 K.  5 miles a day seems to be a good amount of miles for weight loss.  Still, a long way to go.  But, see below my before pics. They help me to see how far I have come and not get too hard on myself.  That picture is about 82 lbs heavier than I am now.  The other one is my current "after" photo.  They used to be on my work blog until I blew it up.

It was 34 degrees this morning.  I really need a gator.

This link is to an Ab workout that KungFuBlonde sent me.  I am going to do it 3 times a week and see if I can't get this "lub" of mine less "lubbie"

Oh wow you look great! I love seeing before and after pictures--it is so amazing to see what you have achieved for yourself. You look SKINNY it doesn't look like you have any left to lose. How did you do it? You must be very disciplined! Good run today1

From The Howling Commando on Wed, Oct 22, 2008 at 11:21:22

Oh my word, Marion! That is amazing and oh so very very inspiring! The before and after pictures truly give testament to your dedication to achieving a healthier lifestyle! I can truly see the 'real you' if that makes sense shining through in the second photo. I agree with you .. you have come a long way, and your journey has taught you many things. I know that just reading your blog has taught me we need to take each week a day at a time, each run a step by step basis. It might not seem like we accomplish much in the short run, but in the long run, we can look back and see how far we've come! I hope you have a wonderful day, Marion. You have made me smile today :) We are lucky to have you here on the blog!

From Tom on Wed, Oct 22, 2008 at 11:30:34

Great pics Marion, you're getting ever so much closer to that beach volleyball player ideal!

Also thanks for the continued support and encouragement on Kim and my blogs. We've both been pretty busy lately and haven't had much time for blogging so we may appear a bit unsociable as of late, but we really do appreciate the support.

From kungfublonde on Wed, Oct 22, 2008 at 11:56:28

You are BEAUTIFUL! In the before AND after photos. You have come so far towards your fitness goals, you will meet them in no time :)

And that's the link Teena originally posted- I love it. Those are all moves I do, but I've never done them all together that way in the "around the world" set. And don't forget, pushups work abdominals, too!

From Megan on Wed, Oct 22, 2008 at 12:13:11

O' my gosh... That is amazing... you should be like spokeswoman for the benefits of running for weight loss! PS. Nice 5 miles today!!! A smoothie is definately NOT enough for dinner, I can totally tell the next morning if I didn't have a good dinner, my fuel gets way low.

From marion on Wed, Oct 22, 2008 at 12:24:33

Megan- thanks for validation on the fuel therory. It was the only thing I could figure that would cause such as drastic reduction in energy at mile 4. :)

Thanks guys for the kind words. I had been overweight for nearly 16-17 years. I weigh less now than I did before I got married.

Tom- the volley ball player will be here next season for sure!! (that is post-children volleyball player ;)

RAchel and BEnn thanks so much! Your kindness and support helps me so much!

April- I lost the weight through Weight Watchers and am a Leader for them now. It really is a great program.

EVERYONE- THANK YOU!!! Gaulee, I'm blushing ;D

From britta on Wed, Oct 22, 2008 at 14:20:54

Wow!!!! You have come so far!!!! Congratulations to you, you should be so proud of yourself. I bet your family is so proud of you too.

From Kelli on Wed, Oct 22, 2008 at 14:25:28

Congrats on the 12!! I need to come run 5 with you a day, maybe consistency would help me. I am all over the board!

But, seriously, we all (well, most of us) know how hard it is to lose weight. And I think it is even harder to keep it off. Being a YO YO is so much easier! You are awesome and inspiring!!

From tarzan on Wed, Oct 22, 2008 at 14:49:18

Marion - those pictures are incredible. You have made such a positive lifestyle change. Congratulations on all the hard work.

I agree on the nutrition - I think that was part of my problem this morning. I ate dinner at 5 last night and not much after that and woke up starving at 5:30 this morning. I should have put in some carbs before bedtime so I wouldn't bonk.

See - we live and learn.

From Kelli on Wed, Oct 22, 2008 at 15:00:00

I just came across this:

10 little weight watchers joining in a line, one hated vegetables, then there were nine…

9 little weight watchers say, "This is great." One said I don't have time to exercise," then there were eight…

8 little weight watchers say, "This is heaven." One had a birthday, then there were seven…

7 little weight watchers, getting thin for kicks. One said, "Programs and fun just don't mix," then there were six…

6 little weight watchers, see how they thrive. One said, "Just once won't hurt," then there were five…

5 little weight watchers beating at a door. One weighed and left each week, then there were four…

4 little weight watchers from fat getting free. One heard, "Dear you're getting too thin," then there were three…

3 little weight watchers see how they do. One went on vacation, then there were two…

2 little weight watchers, life has just begun. One got off the program, then there was one…

1 little weight watcher standing all alone, the body's gotten little, how the pride has grown…

1 little weight watcher,

at goal she looks divine…

We, each one of us, can be that one and not the other nine!!!

Uh oh - I'm a lifetime member - but rarely go to meetings.

However - I do like the poem. :)

From Kelli on Wed, Oct 22, 2008 at 15:05:32

I do not go wither, Tarzan. But, maybe I should!!!

Marion --

You are amazing!! I am so impressed with everything about you.

Have a great day.

From Burt on Wed, Oct 22, 2008 at 15:46:24

You look so great. I'm going to have to post my before and after pictures. How much do you weigh now? And how old are you? And what do you carry in your purse that boys aren't allowed to see? (I'm hoping after the compliment that you will casually answer these questions without realizing what you've done 'til it's too late.)

From marion on Wed, Oct 22, 2008 at 15:46:51

Thanks guys ;)

Kelli- I love that poem! So so funny!

From marion on Wed, Oct 22, 2008 at 15:59:16

Burt- I am 39 :) I'm 5' 9.5" and hate posting my wight. Most woment are much shorter than I am and GASP in horror at my weight ;) IF you really want to know- PM me and I'll tell you. I'd love to see your before and afters. They are my favorite!

From kungfublonde on Wed, Oct 22, 2008 at 19:20:35

We are the same height! And you look like we're the same weight. I'm 35. We're totally gonna be ab twins :)

I did weight watchers when I was 28. I wasn't overweight, I just wanted to learn how to eat right. I had no idea what a healthy portion of food was. Restaurants serve heaping plates of food. Mike is Asian, so at home we eat a giant plate of rice covered with *whatever* every night. It was veggies and tofu or chicken, but still, too much of that is too much. What is a reasonable amount of food?? I learned so much from Weight Watchers about portion control. You don't have to be overweight to benefit from the education about eating that Weight Watcher's provides.

From Burt on Wed, Oct 22, 2008 at 19:24:03

Marion- I don't really want to know your weight. I just wanted to see if you would answer those taboo questions. I like a woman that will. Well, not "like" like, but we can be friends now. LOL

From tarzan on Wed, Oct 22, 2008 at 19:36:29

My variation on the earlier poem:

Ten little distance runners waiting in a line, one couldn’t stand a porta potty and then there were nine.

Nine little distance runners say “Running is Great.” One says, “I don’t like being sweaty” and then there were eight.

Eight little distance runners say “This Is Heaven.” One over trained and then there were seven.

Seven little distance runners working on splits. One decided that the results were too hard and then there were six.

Six little distance runners looking for a runner’s high. One never got to experience it and then there were five.

Five little distance runners trying to run more. One upped his distance too quickly and then there were four.

Four little distance runners needing to pee. One couldn’t handle the squatting and then there were three.

Three little distance runners needing to do number 2. The cactus spines turned them off and then there were two.

Two little distance runners too tired to run. One decided to take a break and then there was one.

One little distance runner standing all alone, her body has gotten strong, how the pride has grown…

One little distance runner, PR’ing across the finish line…

We, each one of us, can be that one and not the other nine!!!

Wow, I'm very impressed. Portion control takes a whole lot of discipline. I'm trying to eat healthier, but I keep giving in. I'd get weeded out of the poem at 7 or 8. You are definitely hardcore!

From marion on Thu, Oct 23, 2008 at 00:30:32

Maurine= that is an AWESOME poem/song! I love it!! You are VERY talented!!! I may post that on the brag board! :)

Hey- We can start a 5 ft 9.5" club! I thought I was the only one on the blog!!! YEAH!! There are other "amazons" out there!!!

From Kelli on Thu, Oct 23, 2008 at 09:40:00

Did you make that up on your own?? I love it. I am the number 3---I back out when I have to pee.

From tarzan on Thu, Oct 23, 2008 at 10:15:27

Thanks, ladies. Yeah - I can't write my own music and stuff - but I am good at doing takeoffs.

I was quite a rebel in my BYU days and was known for rewriting Physical by Olivia Newton John into Spiritual by Olivia Neutron Bomb.

From Kelli on Thu, Oct 23, 2008 at 10:17:31

That is funny TARZAN, I would like to hear that one!

From Snoqualmie on Thu, Oct 23, 2008 at 10:42:39

That's a wonderful before/after image!!! What a terrific accomplishment.

When I get those sluggish hard miles, I just keep telling myself "highs and lows, take them all." Good running.

From kellies on Thu, Oct 23, 2008 at 12:47:57

You are awesome Marion, love the pics, the poems, this whole conversation. Way to go with 12, I too would like to get to a consistent mandatory mileage every day. Probably not going to happen, that would put me at #5 on the little distance runners, we will see! Keep up the good work, you amaze me!

From Marion on Thu, Oct 23, 2008 at 13:45:30

Thanks everyone :) You all are such GREAT cheerleaders.
