| | Tempo run today. We did 10 min miles and that was REALLY HARD! We are going to have to work up to those! |
| | Speed work at the track. WOW! we did 200 sprints with 200 walks in between. Boy was that rough!! |
| | I did a Yoga class today for my rest day. It was a class entitled, No harm, non violence. It was a bit ironc. As I was trying to enjoy my class, my children went MAD and about half way through, I wasn't sure if they would survive with our harm or violence. I think karma was playing a joke on me, as I am in triangle pose yelling at my kids to shush up so I can hear the instructor teach me how to embrace the "non voilence no harm" leg of yoga. :) |

Kim and I ran along the canal through Salem. It was really beautiful. The road had been grated and was really rough through some spots, but was OK for the most part. We saw baby ducks with their Mama. Pretty cool. The last three miles were HORRIBLE. Kim hit the runners high and I hit the wall! That whole day I just felt as if someone had beat me up. Sunday I had a migrane and still felt beat.
Pretty run. Next week I think we will go toward Santaquin. |
| | I want to take this WHOLE week off! Saturday KICKED my BUTT! I stopped to stretch probably 50 times. I am surprised I ever made it home :) All of my runner friends tell me that every runner has bad runs, and we all survive! OK. I am just gonna have to go on faith! |
| | I may not die! That is all I have to say! |
| | Same old run up main street and back. I am feeling MUCH better today. I may recover from last saturdays CRAPPY 10 miler!!! |
| | I went out on the highway toward Santaquin today. I needed a change of scenery today. |
| | Easy peasy walk with David. He is still healing from a pulled calf muscle and I needed a few more miles and this was perfect. It's nice to walk once in a while. I remember the days, not too long ago when this loop was really hard for me to even walk. Ah, sweet progress. | |
| | I ran to Salem this morning on the highway. I was a bit of a chicken and waited for the rain to stop. It wasn't to bad of a run at all. Much better than last saturdays 10 miler on the Salem canal path. The cows were out at very pleasant :) A few dogs tried to eat me, but I told them to go home and they did. Hot 6 grain cereal for breakfast seems to not cause me any tummy trouble on my runs. Good to know! | |
| | This week is my first 10 miler in Provo. I am very excited and super nervous. This week is my 20% mileage cut back week so I will be doing some easy running and a bunch of Yoga- my miracle "cure all" and injury prevention. (plus a little zen for the mama of a bunch of roudy chillins) You know I think I love running because none of my babies can catch me. I LOVE the "alone" time with me and the cosmic universe ;) | |
| |
I am really learning to LOVE my cut back weeks. Although the first run after my long run and my rest day is not always the greatest. Is there a name for the first mile or so of a run? I can't think of any nice word for it.
Anyway- I am really excited about the 10 miler this weekend. Whats everyones favorite way to taper? Remember I am a very slow (fast at heart) and low mile girl, but working on it. "Must live to run another day" I am in this for life and am in no hurry to get fast. Ok- a little hurry. I want to do Hobble Creek in 2 hours and SGM 2009 in 4h. Pipe dreams? I've got speed in my jeans (a little giggle with that).
| | Great run today! The temp was PERFECT, the breeze was most excellent and I am so glad! Short and sweet- I have got to get to work. I love being able to say, "yeah, I ran (whatever it was) today." (especially the really long runs) I guess I have been hanging out with little kids so much that I really need the kudos from grown-ups :) | |
| |
I have decieded that blogging brings out the Polly Anna in me. I am way less whiny and I find myself looking for the beauty in my run to report in instead of the nasty.
This morning the brids were out and singing away. The 50's are such nice temps to run in. I am trying to treasure them as I know they won't be around for long. The mountains are SO green right now and it smells so nice outside.
I think my feet are getting bigger. Can they spontaniously grow over night? They are already HUGE to start off with, but boy do they seem snug in my new shoes. I am going to go and get a new new pair this week. My new ones (of just a few weeks) will have to be used for my shorter runs. They are not working at all for my long runs.
| |
Nice easy run :) BEAUTIFUL weather and temps! Srping -when it deciedes to be spring- is wonderful! My calfs complaied a bit in the beginning, but they gave up when they saw it would do no good! My ave pace was 12:41 (inclucing walking), best pace was 8:25 (prob for about 10 sec :)
Lap #1- 1.12 miles (uphill) 12:28
Lap #2- 0.93 miles 11:02
I will walk 2.5 mi tomorrow and yoga in prep for the Provo Riverwoods 10 miler. I am very excited and am hoping for the best. If nothing elce- the pancakes at the end :)
Yoga yesterday afternoon was AWESOME! I always forget how much I LOVE it. You'd think I could remember from day to day- but every day I am still amazed at how brilliant it is! yogatoday.com has free classes everyday with 3 different instructors.
| |
For cross training, I weeded my flower beds. I am pretty sure that is not what is meant by cross training, but what the heck! I am also making bread. Thats got some arm work included, right?
I am eating my carbs and praying my running partner gets better for tomorrows Provo 10 miler. She just got back from Mexico and is still dehydrated from the humidity and heat. She's a nurse, and I am hoping she hooks herself up to an IV today ;)
Anyway- I am pretty nervous about the race. Two weeks ago we ran ten miles, and the first 7 were great, but the last three... well I am guessing i hit a wall of some sort. The week before we ran 9 and it was just dandy. I don't know what made the difference that week. On our 10 mile training run, we did go faster than usual, between 10:30 and 11:30 the whole time. I was impressed and happy with that, but, it felt like someone had beaten me for two days after. So... needless to say I am a little aprehensive about the run. I keep rehersing in my head over and over, "shady, downhill, slow is good, just have fun, no pressure." The devil side of me says..." must go fast or the pancakes will be gone!" I am constantly surprised at how ying-yang I am.
Good luck to all of you tomorrow too! Big day for us "fastrunningbloggers"

Lap paces: 10:35, 10:59, 10:49, 10:30, 10:54, 11:10, 11:03, 11:14, 11:10, 10:42, 11:02, 10:37, 10:34, 9:18 Best pace- 6:03 Ave pace 10:55 (exactly what we were going for :)
I'm not quite sure how I ended up with so many laps, I thought I only pressed the lap button at the mile markers- oh wait, there was a potty break and 2 water breaks... that is probably it. Anyway- not real scientific, but it really ROCKED!!
My official time was 1:52:??, but we started late, because my running partner was stuck in the potty. Anyway- it's all good and I just wanted to be done in less than 2 hours.
Now, I may have my head in the clouds, but I am thinking that there is a very good shot at doing Hobble Creek in 2 hours-ish. We'll see :)
OH- note to self- it was FREEZING when they dropped us off. Just for future reference!
BUT!!! it was BEAUTIFUL! Perfect running weather and temps! WOW! I really loved it and will do it again!
I did an major carbo load yesterday- rice and cake :) Oh- my poor neuromas in my right food were KILLING me. I litteraly prayed the last FIVE miles to not stop for the pain. New shoes monday- 2 sizes bigger and quadruple E's. Wow those bad boys really can scream!
| |
Alright- who hijacked my legs and made them so SORE! Needless to say- I walked today with a token jog here and there. I am going to walk 2.5 in the morning and night until they feel better. I am hoping by Wednesday they are healed, because I have a 5 mi run with my friend Kim R ( I have lots of friends named Kim :)
Nice day though, and I ran into my friend Jill and ran home with her to her beautiful garden. Took home a bushel of oregano and a overgrown radish for my bunny. Thumps LOVES radish greens.
I LOVE the warm weather! It feels SO good to be warm all the way through!
I headed out for another attempt at a run tonight. It went much better. I walked for the first half and ran home the second. It was dusk and very nice out. I am going to do a bit of yoga and then go to bed.
On a strange note, I ate about half a watermelon, half a pineapple and a banana today. I guess I am craving some vit C, potassium, and water! I dunno, strange, but it sure tasted good!
| |
I hope ya'll wanted some whine with breakfast, because here it comes.
To quote my 2 year old, Will, "poopie, poopie, poopie." Someone shot my "Polly Anna" and the prognosis is very dismal.
The first half of my run, was a walk, interspersed with very crampy calves trying to run. I spent more time in down dog than I did moving, as to try to stretch them out. The walking was nice. I had a nice time with Kelly Clarkson, Il Divo, and Van Halen ;)
The second half, my calves quit cramping up and let me, ever so slowly, run home. The broadway cast of Hairspray and Billy Idol brought me in.
I am going to get a bike helmet today and do some biking while my lower extremities are still boycotting running.
Serenity now!!! | |
| |
Yeah! My legs are healed! Ya'll said they would, and ***presto*** they did!
I got up at 6 for Yoga. I LOVE yoga, incase I haddn't mentioned that today.
Great run today! Kim R. and I ran up Payson Canyon. WOW is was so nice and beautiful. Michelle, you were right- we were alone most of the time.
We walked about the first mile and and a half. (It's about 1.6 miles to the mouthof the canyon from my house) My calves are still very tight. We stretched and that didn't seem to help much. More walking helped a TON!
Once we began to run, we ran uphill at 12:28, then headed down for 11:27 & 11:15. I hit the lap button several times during the run to give myself a general idea of my uphill pace and down hill pace and flat paces. Average over all pace for 5 miles with about 2 miles of walking 14:12.
Easy slow run with plenty of trips onto lawns for s sprinkle or two :) Thanks to all those who water in the late morning!
| |
It's nice to be running normally again. Is that an oxymoron? I actually said last night to my running partner, "Oh, our long runs is no big deal this weekend, it's only 6 miles." Now for some, that really is no big deal, but for me to have 6 miles be no big deal is HUGE!!! Anyway- big progress for me :)
Notes for today's run. The soreness is all gone. The tight calves are for the most part resigned to the fact that they are going to have to run and have surrendered. 1 point Marion. The first mile of the run was not great 13:20, but the second and third were much more relaxed and natural 12:19, 11:48. 1 point Payson Main Street, 2 points Marion. I ran at 6 am, 1 point Marion. So as far as points go, I am ahead :)
I am hoping to get some yoga in this morning. I really need the prana. I am a prana junky!
Oh, and I am the first to post this morning of my running commrads. 1 more point for Marion. (Hey- do you think I can eat these POINTS?)
| |
Not a great run today. Felt terrible. (the times confirmed it was not to hot) I knew it would be bad when I cursed the sun this morning. I have been retaining water all week and it is really bugging me at this point. I am going to eat all fruits and veggies and drink a bunch of water today and see if I can get myself back in ballance. I feel like a swamp.

My grandmother taught me to say nothing if I had nothing nice to say.
This ones for you Grandmother!!!
Kim R and I ran up Main street, up Payson canyon, across the canal trail/road and then back down Main Street.
total time: 1:41:31
ave pace 15:08
Best Pace 7:29
Thought I should journal the run, imperfections and all, for future reference. We left at about 8:10 am. We walked really slowly for almost 3 miles. We jogged a bit, my side shins, just above my ankles, were really achy and my calves were super tight again. Finally we hit the canyon and walked up the canyon too. That was not in the plan, but it was so pretty and all of my boys were camping and the girls were at a swim meet so we had no hurry to get back. We ran REALLY slow back down. I almost jumped in the creek to drink, but Kim kept me out. I should have brought water, but I was only planning on 3.5 miles, so I didn't. At the mouth of the canyon there were some new homes and I found a spigot and refreshed myself.
I am forever amazed at how some runs can be so great and others like pulling teeth. Night and day. I have been eating really poorly and am really going to make a concerted effort to make way better choices. If I am going to be the runner I want to be, the one I think I can be, I need to focus on the quality of my food choices, not just the calories.

Goals for the week-
#1 Eat good stuff!!! (good FOR me, that is :)
#2 25 miles this week. That's all! Must stick to the plan! (last week I went over plan by 3.5- this overzealousness is what injurs me)
#3 Yoga class 2 x's. Mini yoga sessions everyday.
#4 Run by 6 am every day. 5:30 am on Saturday. (even if Kim R cries)
#5 Run faster than I want to on shorter runs.
#6 Take water- I panic if I even get a little thirsty.
I took a nice 3.5 mile walk with hubby this evening. It was really nice out and we found a little path up Payson Canyon to explore. We will be sure to bring the kids up there. It would be great to see where it ends up.
| |
Had to work this morning, so I am late posting :)
Alright, I am back and feel fine! Great run this morning! Woo HOOO!!! My calves tried to whine, but I "relaxed" them, and they DID!
30:43 min, 12:17/mi total average, 7:25/mi best pace, Laps; 12:08 (.38mi), 11:59 (.43 mi), 10:47 (.45 mi), 9:19 (.6 mi), 11:18 401.6 feet ;)
Alright, so I am a little OCD with the lap button, but hey- I find the information very informative :)
| |
Time: 56:19, average pace 12:34, Best Pace: 7:16 (this all includes walking warm-up/cool-down and a potty break ;) <if I use the stop start button I never remember to press start again >
Laps--- 11:22 for .91m, 12:14 for .55m, 9:59 for .56m, 9:04 for .61m, 10:28 for .36m, 9:43 for .16m, 8:16 for .19m, 10:09 for .2m
Great run. I sounded like a steam engine, but hey, we (me and Kim R) were smokin' (in our world ;) I am really glad we did it. It is amazing how slow 11 or even 10 m/m feel when you've been running faster. It was great today.
I am hoping to do a fast run each week. We both want to be faster. We are so well matched that it gets hard to push past the norm. It has been so great to have a running buddy though, when one is down the other is up and keeps the other going. And NO MATTER WHAT KIM R SAYS< she likes running at 6am with me ;)
| |
Time-53:54, Ave pace-12:34, Best pace-6:53
Laps- 11:08(.95m), 11:05(.45m), 7:53(.29), 9:44(.89m), 10:03(.13m)
I started today with about 20 min of very low intensity yoga. Boy my hamstrings were tight and not ready to wake up. It felt really good after about the third sun salutation. Yoga is such a miracle ;) Anyway- day three of 6 am runs. I really like having my running all finished and being ready for the day so early.
Now about the run- it was hard :) This goal of mine to run faster than I have to, is a little rough, but it feels SO good to record the times and see that I have been able to go faster than I thought I could. Running 10:55 at the Provo Riverwoods 10 miler, really has done a trick on my mind. If I can average that for 10 miles, I can go faster, or atleast that fast on shorter runs, right? Anyway, we are making major progress, in my books, and I am very excited!!
Yesterday I ate very well! Lots of fruit and veggies, fresh sugar snap peas and raspberries :). I also made apple cinnamon bran muffins. Yum! I went over my POINTS budget for the day by a touch, but I was hungry and the scale showed a loss this morning. I am really trying to make better food choices to keep my energy up for running. I would really like to actually place in my age group sometime in the next year. I don't have to be first, just a single digit would be GREAT!!!! Dreams dreams!! ;)
(-1.8 lbs from last wed)
| |
time-31:43, av pace 12:35, best pace 7:47, Laps- 12:48(1.13), 9:44 (.82)
Alright- KimR is the speedy one. I could not move it at all for the first half. I was sluggish and pokey. KimR had to stay home cause she wasn't feeling well this morning :( The first half was pretty slow and tar like. The second half was a bunch better. The only hard part about running the shorter distances, is that I start to feel better, just as it's time to stop.
Hey I saw Kim and Tom running down the canyon this morning. I recognized the St. Geo t-shirt on Tom before I recognized Kim. I almost yelled "hel-ooooo, fastrunning blogger," until I realized I could actually greet them by name. Cool to see fellow fastrunningbloggers. Although, I sort of feel like the token slow guy on the blog. Kind of like affirmative action for running blogs.
Tomorrow KimR and I are going to do our long run down the canyon. Nothing fancy, super slow and cooler and DOWNHILL :)
-1.6 lbs from last week | |

Is a lazy run the same as an easy run? If so- we had an easy run day ;)
Kim R & I had a great run down Payson Canyon and around town. The official "Payson Canyon FOX Club" has begun downhill training. If you don't know what "fox" is referring to, see Tom's blog yesterday ;) Let's just say, we are Hot to Trot! (and we smell like fox's when we get home)
The down hill was great. My husband dropped us off at the hairpin turn just above Maple Dell (exactly 6 miles from my house). We took Toms BRILLIANT advice, and ran with small, shuffle strides at a controlled, slow pace- no show boating. After we got to the mouth of the canyon we ran the roads along the hill (above the canal trail) and then on the canal trail for a bit and then back the same way to the mouth of the canyon and back to my house. We sat for a minute and soaked our feet in the creek in my yard, checked out our splits and drank some Gatorade.
Life is good. If we are not too sore, we will repeat this again next week but with a bit more speed on the down hill. We'll have to see how it goes.
I am planning on swimming laps and water running this afternoon at my brothers cool pool.
Time 1:59:15, ave pace 13:10, best pace 5:40, Laps (the running ones :)10:32,10:56,11:05,12:05,????,11:31,8:58,10:10,10:40 (there was a really pitiful, lovely, walking lap before the 11:31) [these are not true splits- many are more than a mile and some are less- the 8:58 is only .6, the 10:32 is 3 miles, etc) We had a couple funky stops- some idiot left a fire at beer can flats and an adventuresome potty break in the woods. I need to press stop, these side trips ruin our ave pace.
-3.6 lbs from last friday! woo hoo! I was wondering when my FAT was going to surrender!!! (oops I said the "F" word... sorry ;)
| |
Time 32:14, ave. pace 11:52, best pace 8:00, Laps-10:56,9:33 (solid real miles ;)
Beautiful short run today. Wasn't too hot at all. We left at 7:30, so Kim got to sleep in a bit. I got up and did an hour of yoga this morning. It was a great mellow class by Necia on YogaToday.com. I just love that site.
Now, as for my goals- I broke #1. I did do a fair bit of walking, so maybe I really didn't break them too badly. Oh well, life to too short to beat myself up and I am feeling pretty good.
NO SORENESS TODAY! ( I am such a KimLee wanna-be) I swam for about 6 hours yesterday afternoon with my kids and brother, Dans family. We had a GREAT time!!
Have a GREAT weekend everyone!!!

How does that song go? "One bad apple, don't spoil the whole week of runs?"
It's monday, what more needs to be said! I got really sick in the middle :( I am guessing my body wasn't very happy to be running at 5:30 am. What a WIMP!!! Kim was VERY brave and non-wimpy.

***WARNING***
The Surgeon General has issued a warning that EVEN reading about a slow run can be contagious. The following run is so SLOW that it has been given the rating "READ AT YOUR OWN RISK" it most certainly will cause psychological damage and add at least a minute to any runner who reads these splits.
That being said, have a nice day :) ...and thank you for risking your running career by reading my blog.
Time 1:04:05, ave 13:50, best pace 9:36, Laps- 18:07(.36mi), 13:36, 13:16, 13:12, 12:41, 17:31(.27mi)
The run was not great this morning. I felt old and achy. I am glad it is done. I did about 20 min of Yoga earlier this morning and I will get in some more after I water the plants. The flowers and garden are looking good, but the lawn is a bit sad :(
| |
2.51 walk this morning.
Will walk 2.5 with David tonight, or maybe we'll ride bikes? Who can know forsure ;)
My knees were achy yesterday and I wanted to give them a break today. I am ever so worried about injury and would rather be very safe than sorry! MUST LIVE TO RUN ANOTHER DAY!!!!
| |
Hello there all you AMAZING runners!
Confessions of a ~runner: I cut todays run by a mile. My knee was still a little... I don't know how to say it... a little questionable. So, I thought I'd better play it safe, and not risk any injury that might be trying to RUIN MY LIFE!!! :)
Nice run. I am noticing a trend, speedier week, NOT speedy week, and back and forth. Thats OK, right? I am in this for the long haul, and two years ago I couldn't even walk 2 miles! So here's to me. Does anyone know any good songs to celebrate my. All I come up with is , "just keep running, step in time, never quit running, step in time..."
Speaking of songs, my mp3 died after just one Scorpion song. I had to sing "step in time" for 3.6 miles. The verses got really BAD!!!
Time: 49:41, ave 13:48, best 10:05, Laps- 16:51(.25), 13:35, 12:59, 12:21, 18:37(.35)

9:10 This last mile was DEATH! I wanted to quit the last 1/2 mile FORESURE!

There were very cute cows out today in the canyon. There was this stern looking bull who we avoided as best we could. I used Kim as a human shield in case he charged!
I am fully addicted to running DOWN the canyon! I was afraid that I'd be sore after yesterdays speedy sprint, but my legs are OK. They really didn't like the second half, they started to cramp up and get a bit tight. I'll just keep moving today and they should be fine!
Well I am off to the temple and then to my brothers to swim and BBQ! Have a GREAT day and keep it cool! ;)

Goals for the week!
#1 REST and relax this week. It is my cut back week and I am gonna live it up!!
#2 YOGA 2X's!!!! A real class! No matter what! Mini- every day.
That is it this week. I am tired and need a nap after the unbelievable week last week! I am gonna go soak my legs in the creek and take a nap!
LAST WEEK IN REVIEW
#1- DO NOT GO OVER 31 miles this week! I was VERY good here :) A++++++
#2 Run 31 miles this week I did not do 31, but my body was really against this one and I was trying to honor it's decision to not go too far. I felt very much on the verge of injury. A+
#3 Yoga CLASS 2x's, mini yoga everyday. Mini classes every day, no reg classes :(
#4 DO NOT EAT LIKE A MAD CRAZED FREAK AFTER MY LONG RUN. BAD BAD BAD!!!! F-
#5 Eat more fruit. A+++++
#6 Go on a bike ride. F----
#7 Be really cute and friendly! B+
- 2.4 lbs this week. The mileage is starting to give me the kick in the pants I have been needing ;)

It was a beautiful morning. We didn't run much because my calves were cramping up again. Also, I had those side shin splint ankle burning things again. These "pains" were far less than they were after the Prove 10 miler, but the same things. I have got to work on my electrolyte balance on a daily basis, and especially after long runs and races. I have been having electrolyte problems for 6 months and I have got to get a handle on it.
Action Plan (feel free to suggest more stuff)
banana's every day, one whole one and one in my protein/dairy smoothie, right after my runs
go to the good earth and get Mama Calm (as suggested by Michelle)
NO MORE DIET PEPSI :( *for 1 month and see if that helps :)
NO MORE MISSING YOGA CLASSES
Eat mainly whole foods.

I decided to run a flat course today. It was ugly and boring :P ! The hilly neighborhoods I usually run are much prettier. Also, it was trash day where I ran and it was STINKY! How is that for a major cut to my city! I am going to be banished! Anyway- the run went much better this morning than yesterday. My whole legs still feel like taffy that has been put in the refrigerator- hard and ready to snap, but not cramping up today. I am guessing I need a massage. I feel like my running form is also super up-tight. So MORE yoga and I need to find a new massage therapist. Mine moved to Vernal :( Have a great day! My goal is always to have each split be less than the previous, and MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!
Today felt pretty normal. A little tightness in the calves and discomfort in the ankles, but nothing to stop me. I ran my usual route which was very nice and cool. I love the canyon breeze that comes down in the morning. I took my ipod and enjoyed Evanescence, The Scorpions and The Wicked Soundtrack. The Scorpions really helped with that last split- it's huge and in green in case you missed it ;)
I am going to go finish my yoga class as soon as I am done here. Tomorrow and Saturday are both 2.5ers and Friday is 10 miles. If anyone is up for a MEGA slow 10 miles (12-13 m/m) come join me! My sister-in-law will be in town and I am probably going to make her come with me :) She'll be so happy about it.
Have a great day everyone! Happy running!
Fished my Yoga class! Why do I EVER miss? YogaToday.com has a yoga for runners class in their archive. It was fantastic. My hips, quads and knees are feeling the LOVE now. Alright, every morning after my daily ritual, I am gonna DO YOGA! I know I have said it before, but WOW, it's just the best and I am a FOOL to skip it!

My hubby, David, came with me this morning and we walked, with a little run at the end. He pulled a calf muscle last month and is a little gun shy about starting to run again. I was happy to have a walk today. Tomorrow I will run an easy 2.5 and then 10 miles on Sat. I should be good and rested for that after this very low miles week. I may rearange my schedule so that I have a shorter long run on my easy weeks. We'll see how it goes. It might be really nice. Hobble Creek is getting close and I am getting SO excited! I have learned SO much. I am quite sure I won't beable to break 2 hours, BUT, I am sure that I will be able to have a good run in the best time possible (baring any unforseen misshaps ;) Whatever it is, it will be and I will be good with it!
I posted my walk info- not sure why, habbit I guess :D Have a GREAT day!

Did my yoga class yet again this morning! Yeah me! 2 in a row!!! Funny thing, my hip flexors, which ususally KILL me when I get out of the car- are fine after some serious yoga sessions. I LOVE YOGA-I LOVE YOGA-I LOVE YOGA!
no ratting me out- but... I had a diet pepsi today :D

It felt really warm this morning. I have been feeling hot for the past few days. I must be retaining water or something. Strange. I have also been very irritable! Diet Pepsi withdrawl? ;)
Anyway- the first mile felt terrible, although I chicked an elderly woman on her morning walk. (Is is "chicking" if it's a girl you pass? Probably not) My first mile was all up hill though- excuses excuses- my first mile is ALWAYS uphill. The second mile was fine. If I had gone longer it would have been a much better overall run. (I can't believe I said that) BUT... I must stick to my mileage plan.
Tomorrow is 10 miles and I am going to try a gel :P I am pretty sure I will throw up, but I gotta be sure. I really like Jolly ranchers. The past 2, 10 milers, I just kept a jolly rancher in my mouth the whole time, pretty much, and drank about 4 C of gatorade over the run and was fine. (my first 10 miler, I majorly crashed and burned at mile 7- must never let that happen again if possible) I read about someone eating cinnimon bears on another blog- I love those little guys!
Good luck to everyone either racing or long running this weekend! Be safe and swift!

1:30:24, ave15:23, Laps- 10:47,11:46,11:52... walked the rest of the way :(
The payson Canyon Fox Club was on the move today. Kim R, Tricia, and my sister-in-law Barbara headed up the canyon for a beautiful cool 10 miler. It was all well and good until I injured my calf muscle. I don't think it's torn, because there was no "pop" like last fall. Unfortunately, we were far from home and had no cell phone so I got to walk it off for 3 miles :( This was good I think, because after Kim R saved us in her car, and I rode for a bit, and then, when I walked again, it KILLED! It hurts something good right now. I am going to ice it and take it easy today. I am not sure if walking on it is a good idea or not. Web info says to ice it and stay off it as much as possible. I don't think it is torn, just really irritated. It's definitely not charlie horse.
My family is at the Scottish Festival Bag Pipe Parade. I can hear the pipe bands and they sound wonderful! I feel badly that I will very likely miss my daughters competing in the band competitions. I LOVE The bag pipes!
| |
Heloooooo! Last week ended up a lot lower in mileage than I had planned- but such is life :) My calf if actually feeling much better this morning. All the ice and massage (recommended by Josse -thanks) seemed to help mucho! I am sure I averted a rupture and am going to do all I can to keep that from happening in the future.
Goals for the week-
1- be very kind to my calf :) No further injury- any prevention tips from the wise among us would be greatly appreciated ;)
2- stay strong on the "no soda" thing ;)
3- yoga Yoga yoga!
4- do the planned mileage, even if it is slow walking.
5- Stretch really well after my warm up before I begin to run (especially my sweet calves)

#1 REST and relax this week. It is my cut back week and I am gonna live it up!! I did really good with this one A+
#2 YOGA 2X's!!!! A real class! No matter what! Mini- every day. I did this one too :) B+ I only get the B+ because my calf still got injured - arg!!!

I walked this morning. It is muggy and overcast with flying ants everywhere :( I ran a very little bit, but it started to feel a little to stressed in the calf, so I stopped. The walking felt fine, slow and mentaly irritating, but fine. I saw Kim and Jennifer (I think- I hope, please forgive me if your name wasn't Jennifer :) I wanted to run back down with them, but I knew that would just be stupid, so I sauntered onward.
I have a massage with Josse today, and I am hoping for some magic. My calves just feel like overinflated balloons that are always on the verge of popping. They don't ever seem to be able to relax at all anymore. Majic massage with Josse! It was go great to meet her kids and get my legs beaten (or scraped) into submission ;) They are on the mend and I am THRILLED!!!!
I'm off to do some yoga before work! Have a great day everyone!
Eeyore out! (how do you spell Eeyore- is that right?)
We walked with the kids tonight for fun :) It was about 1 mile. Hey- I rode the bike for a bit too. I say "the bike" because ALL of our bikes tires are flat except the one I weasled away from my 11 year old, Kate. Surprisingly enough, I can still ride a bike. It was fun!
| |
I woke up this morning with no soreness except right by my knee, top of my calf where Josse tried to see of I could jump straight up from a horizontal position ;) I don't have any soreness from the massage at all :D Now Josse, please don't take this as a challenge :) It's the best I have felt after a massage, ever. The scraping didn't seem to leave any lasting damage either ;) I am going to bust out the ruler and scrape away!
My run today was not great. I stretched and massaged my calves before I went and numerous times during the four miles. When I ran, after about a half mile the cutting pain started right at the base of my calf again, so I walked. I tried more running, after more stretching and massaging, but after a few strides- the cutting pain was back. I don't want to be a wimp, if I should just run through the pain, but I really don't want a serious injury that will keep me from running in Hobble Creek.
I am planning on walking my miles until my calf resolves itself, or is this a bad idea. Should I just swim or bike? I ordered Mama Calm and hopefully it will be here soon :)
Any wisdom from the wise would be most appreciated.
Have a good day. You know I never took Eeyore for a bully, but he is beating the crud out of my Tigger!
BTW- Sat, I could hardly walk, major limp and NO going down stairs. Sunday and monday, no limp and going down stairs was ok. Today- limping and stairs are not very good.
| |
Alright, this was my first real bike ride in probably 25 YEARS! It was very fun to go that fast! :D It took me a while to figure out the two sets of gears (NO laughing). I was afraid that I might die, but it really went well. No mishaps at all. Also, I had always thought that reading was a requirement for having a drivers license, but I guess not. Even my 2 year old knows that a stop sign is RED and says STOP! I guess there are a bunch of illiterate people out there ;)
A few questions- my fingers kept going numb on my right hand, any pointers and any seat suggestions? My bum is NOT going to want to do that tomorrow ;) Also, is biking primarily a quad exercise?
6.24 biking miles, 39:10, ave pace 6:17, best pace 3:17, laps- 7:39, 7:50, 5:23, 5:26, 5:44, 5:34, 6:39(.24)
Hey LOOK- my slpits look like those of a fast super hero runners on this blog!
Sasha said to count 12 min of hard riding as one mile. This ride was a test of the emergency exercise system, it was only a test.
No limp this morning :) But... a mini limp all day :( I am going to ride all of my miles this week and try running next monday. That should give it plenty of time to heal. (I am hoping and praying) Hey with all of this riding- I may end up in Cedar City. I have to go pretty far to get in the miles, 29 running miles this week (about 60ish in bike miles)! Tomorrow I will go to Spanish Fork :)
6.5 miles this evening. Went on a repeat bike ride this evening with David. I bought a new seat earlier today and had to test it out. It felt MUCH better than the old pointy stabby one. Tomorrow David is going with me again and we are going to go to Salem Pond and there abouts! I like riding my bike. I even did it with no hands. The speed is a little freaky to me. Oh, MAJOR head wind this evening. Seriously, it virtually stopped us heading up the canyon. I am guessing that this injury is good, in that it got me back on a bike again.
The limping is virtually gone this evening. I am going to go soak in the creek for a bit with hubby and enjoy the wonderful evening!
| |
Biking again today- 13:06 miles, 1:25:37, ave pace 6:33, best pace 3:36, laps- 12:19 (.37mi), 5:22, 6:20, 6:16, 7:00, 5:35, 7:07, 5:07, 6:32, 5:19, 5:39, 6:55, 8:24, 7:59(.69mi).
Alright- this biking thing is FUN! DAvid went with me this morning and it was great! I am sure I am not getting the same workout as I do with running, but it is WAY better than sitting around moping! Also, I must weigh in on the counting biking miles equally for running miles- this is bad. Well for me, at least, they are no way comparable at all. Mine calculate at about half the running miles to biking miles and that is probably too generous :(
We rode from our house (right by Peteetneet) to Salem Pond, then around the pond and to Spanish Fork (IFA) then back home via Arrow Head Trail. I think for tomorrows ride we are going to go to Sonic in Spanish Fork for a smoothie :D I need to remember to bring water!
My calf still hurts going down the stairs and I don't think I am limping today. I can't tell right now because I have spaghetti legs from the bike ride ;) I scraped them last night and boy did that feel good. I don't have a "tool" so I used the edge of our tv remote ;)
| |
I miss running :( On the lighter side, I had absolutely no limp yesterday and no problems at all with going down the stairs :) I did more scraping last night with the tv remote. I kept turning on the tv by accident, which was irritating ;)
Good luck to all you racers this weekend! Go GO GO!!!! Have fun :D
Time 1:04, Biking miles 10.15, Avr pace 6:19, best pace 3:20, Laps, 8:14, 7:13, 4:59, 5:55, 5:59, 7:04, 6:16, 6:02, 6:18, 5:08, 6:30 (.15)
64 min Yoga. Restorative class. It felt really good- especially Savasana ;)
| |
biked 6.25 miles, 40 min.
Good luck everyone today! I am off to change the world! :D
Have a great day! I can't wait to try a little jog on Monday. I Have no pain at all today, not even a flinch :D The Mama Calm came today- and BOY IS THAT NASTY!!!! I will suffer through it if it will help my imbalances ;)
We are going to see the Police & Elvis Costello tonight ! Yeah!!!
| |
Alright, I now I usually post and review my goals, but it will be a bit different this week. Last weeks goals changed because of my calf. I did very good at biking inplace of running. My bum adjusted ;) and it went really well. I liked it but I REALLY MISSED RUNING. I am pain free and have been for 3 days. Tomorrow I am going to run a totally flat 2.5, possibly 4 miles, depending on feel. I am going to go really slow and not push anything. My only goal is to have a very mild uneventful week of running. I really want to get all of my miles in (31), but I will modify if i feel like I may reinjure. The Mama Calm came yesterday and I am talking it :P Wish me luck.
Now for the serious stuff... The Police concert was AMAZING!!! It really was. Elvis Costello opened and rocked the joint. I danced for 3 hours. I wonder how many running miles that converts too. We didn't get home until after 1 am. (The exiting at Usana leaves something to be desierd) It is by far the BEST birthday present I have ever given my husband :D We went with my brother and his wife. Adam, my bro, and David both got the tickets for their birthdays this year. David turned 40 and Adam turned 30. We, Mandy and I, didn't find out until after we bought the tickets that THe Police was not their favorite band ;) and that neither of them liked Costello. Oh well- WE (all of us) LOVED it and the boys had a much better time than they thought they would. We were all amazed at how these guys could ROCK THE WORLD! Aside from the exit procedure, the Usana was a fantastic venue and I would go there again :D Who's going again, were game :)
| |
Are there any other local 1/2 marathons this fall besides the Moab Other 1/2 in October?
14.16 miles - Eveing bike ride with David - 1:23:45, best pace 3:17, ave pace 5:55, Laps-6:00, 4:53, 5:00, 6:15, 5:06, 4:58, 9:01, 4:46, 6:34, 6:39, 4:52, 5:30, 5:35, 7:28, 7:06
After an emotional morning, I was able to pull it together and get out on my bike tonight. We road out to the dump with a 3 mile divot on our way and on our way back. We ate about 1,000,000 bugs. They were in my eyes, eye lashes and eye brows, not to mention all over my face and in my hair. I think I will try this again in the morning and see if the bugs are still swarming.
My goals have been readjusted per my injury. I am going to really focus on getting my leg better and not even worry about Hobble Creek. I am hoping I will be able to run it really slowly, but I'll have to wait and see. I'll just run a "Hobbling Marion Creek" for a fake race this fall and have sweet Dr. Josse pace me for a 2:0_ time :D
I didn't think of this before, but I could have been bawling for half the day because I am going to girls camp in the morning ;D
| | 14.01 biking miles, best pace 2:58 (20.2 miles per hour) I woke up at 4am and could not fall back asleep :( So, at 5:30, I went out for a ride :) I did the same ride as last night, only 2 bugs this time and a TON of bats under the freeway overpass. I am off to girls camp. I hope you all have a great week. | |
| | We went to Teasdale to stay at our Young Womans President home there by Capitol Reef National Park. It was beautiful, the girls were DARLING and everyone had a great time. I was very good and iced my calf several times a day and scraped religiously. I even passed on a few of the very steep trails. (I did not want to do a repeat of my "I had to dance for three hours at the POLICE concert and bust myself up again" routine) We had a beautiful sunrise testimony meeting this morning on this fantastic red rock formation. The week (three days) could not have been more perfect. | |
| |
I slept in today! I am in shock! I must have been really pooped from Girls camp. I NEVER sleep late, so I went with it :) I am cleaning out all of my cupboard and pantry and hall closets today. We are all having major allergy attacks because of all of the dust hiding everywhere! Thank heavens for Zyrtec!
I wanted to ride again, yesterday and today, but my palms are still quite tender. The riding causes pretty good pain in my hands, and I am guessing because of the swelling there, my last two fingers stay numb for most of the day afterwards. I can't even do much yoga. I need to go to the bike shop and find a remedy. I wonder if my handle bars are too low?
I have had no pain in my calf since monday, and am hoping to be running again this next monday. Any pointers? The plan is slow and slower ;D
| |
I have been trying not to think about running, so I have stayed busy renovating my kitchen. It was really more of a "super clean" with some new drawer pulls (pewter frogs and dragonflys) and some long needed trims added to a cupboard.
As for the calf- no pain at all since monday. I am good to go for a slow run tomorrow. Slow and SLOWER is the perscription for the week. I am just hoping and praying that running works.
Wish me luck and ALL THE LUCK IN THE WORLD BACK TO YOU!!! :D
| |
Good news first :D I couldn't sleep all night because I was so excited to get up and run this morning. I have had NO pain since last monday. I ran for about 2 miles and it was beautiful!!! This huge flock of geese flew over head, the breeze was slight and the temperature was perfect! My pace was very slow and VERY comfortable, abt 11:30. About .8 M in my calf gave a little "hi- how are you" but no real pain, so I kept going. At mile 2 I stopped to go potty and then it let out a "hey you- MORON- what in the crap are you doing?" I limped home :( I have been icing all morning and I am probably going to go to the doc (if I can get in).
Sad is not the right word- confusion and disbelief are more accurate. I am at a loss. I am going to stay totally off of it for the next three days. I am going to sit on the couch with my leg elevated and ice for 20 min of every hour. There is no more pain right now at all and no limp. I haven't tried the stairs yet. I will know in a minute, when I go to park my bum on the sofa in front of the tv for the next three days. I am going to baby my leg like nothing ever seen before.
Any clue? Anyone?
Thanks for noticin'... Eeyore out!
| | Heloooo- The calf is feeling pretty good this morning. I am heading into another day of total rest, ice and really boring tv. I haven't watched tv during the day in YEARS! Was it always this bad? Maybe I'll hit the redbox? I am spending my time plotting my return to running. I am formulating a plan so that I can still run an official half before I leave my 39th year. That was the plan, 5k age 37, 10k age 38, 1/2 age 39, and a full marathon age 40. My birthday is april 29th. We actually have tickets for Wicked on my birthday :D | |
| |
No running- so how about color? No limp and a little tenderness to the touch. I think it is coming along nicely. I have my recovery plotted out- as I have nothing else to do but plot and plan :)
I think I will do the Provo City Half April 4th 2009. It will give me PLENTY of time to slowly bring up my mileage (this fall) and speed (in the winter and spring). 8 whole months. Did anyone do this race this year?
Also- someone mentioned that there are a series of races that if done, gets you a guaranteed spot in St. George. Does anyone know about this?
Have a great day! I LOVE reading about all of your running adventures! They sound so WONDERFUL!!!!
You guys are the BEST!!!!
| |
Alright- I'm going to the Doc tomorrow. I have an appointment for 10:15 am with Dr Brady. He comes highly recommended by Michelle and Josse, my Running Super Hero's.
No pain in the calf at all and all seems good. I am still icing and resting. I want a really good healing for next week. I am planning on just biking and yoga next week. Then for the next week, more of the same, but I'll try a mile of running each day, seeing how it feels. If it is good, then I'll add more running for the next week, very slowly. Hopefully after a month of being very cautious, maybe September can be a little more normal, low miles, no speed, but at least running more than a teeny tiny.
How does that plan sound to all you professional runners out there?
| |
I am on my way to the doc- yikes! It will be wonderful ;) Right?
On a humorous side note- I was journaling my breakfast and just cracked up. I am having "oats and an apple"- I'M A HORSE!!!!
Happy safe running to all of you amazing people! The Wanna-Be's of the world are watching :D
Alright- Dr Brady was WONDERFUL! THANK YOU MICHELLE!!! It turns out that he and my husband know each other from when they were kids. Small world! :D Anyway, prognosis is good. He says I can run after my next visit which is next tuesday :D (is there a bigger symbol for a grin?) No biking at all until after my next visit, but yoga is OK. He did acupuncture, scraping, and a deep tissue massage that had me yelling... seriously. He put a chinese herbal patch on my calf and taped it. He did a bunch of other diagnostic stuff, but the general jist is that I am a toe runner :( So he made me run around correcting my strike. He says I run like a sprinter which causes real problems for long distances. Anyway- I am SO glad I went. Thanks for twisting my arm all you wonderful friends of mine :D
My leg is KILLING me currently. My husband said that as he watched Dr Brady working my calf that he wondered if I'd be able to walk again :) I am icing and resting until next tuesday. Yeah! Mystery solved ... or is it?
| |
The calf feels fabulous this morning. It's not even sore to the touch. :D
The fires kept us pretty alert all afternoon and night. We live about a mile and a half to two miles from the base of the mountain. We also live right by the fire department and many of our friends were evacuated from their homes. I have never seen anything that big and frightening so close to my home. Some of my kids are having a hard time breathing, so we may head to my moms for the day. My daughter Ashley is having her swim league finals in a few minutes, so I need to head off for that. She is mighty speedy. She usually does pretty well at the finals. My other kids were in the Bronze and Silver finals Wed and Friday nights. YES, they are very long and a little on the boring side, if not HOT! But... Anna (16) took first place in all of her events, Ford's(7) coach took mercy on him and gave him a "Heat Winner" ribbon- which made his little 7 year old day. You would have thought he had won Gold at the Olympics. Thank heavens for a compassionate and inspired coach. At his age, we are just glad that he can make it across the pool alive and without a DQ. Kate (11) did well last night, but because of the fire and evacuations, things were a little confusing toward the end. We'll see tonight how it went for her.
Have a great and a safe day!!!
| |
Yeah! New week, leg is AWESOME!!! My hubby is watching me like a hawk, so I don't go running somewhere. He is normally very relaxed and not overly involved, but he can see the spark of excitement in my eye and vividly remembers all of the bawling after each relapse. He's a sweetie pie, but mainly he HATES it when I am crying. I am WAY more fun when I am not hysterical grieving the loss of running. How's that for dramatic :D
Have a GREAT week and according to the doc, I should be able to run Wednesday... hopefully...fingers crossed!!!
Run you crazy running people, run like the wind- and run an extra mile for me!!!
Oh, I tried to post the fire pictures here, but to no avail. They are on my meltingmarion.blogspot.com blog though. They were taken less than a mile from my home.
| |
60 min yoga. I love yoga. Calf still feels GREAT :D Allergies have struck. Maybe it's the fire?
Have a great day everyone!!!
| |
Dr Appt today at 2:15 with Dr Brady. I sure hope it goes well. My sister-in-law from CA is here and I REALLY wish I could run with her. Oh well... next year :)
Have a great day!
Dr Report- My leg has healed very well. Better than he had expected :D ANyway- he has cleared me for 10-15 miles in the next 7 days. No running 2 days in a row. 15-20 next week. I am going to be a bit more conservative, 10 this week (wed- wed). Anyway- tomorrow morning I am going to try one mile. I am SO excited!!!! He said I should be back up to 28-30 within 3 weeks. I am way less optimistic than he is. I am SO AFRAID to get hurt again!!!
ACTUAL RUNNING :D-- ONE mile 12:19 pace. I walked a half mile, ran a mile and walked a half mile. I'm off to scrape, massage, stretch and ice. It felt fine. I was majorly paranoid. I suppose I will be less stressed ifter a while. It was funny to listen to various muscles saying "hey, what are you doing?"
| |
Hello fellow runners! Yes, I am a runner again, all be it pathetic :) Today, no running. Dr Brady said no two days in a row for this week. So, tomorrow I will be doing the one mile thing then next monday I will try two miles one mile, two miles, one mile, etc. Then the next week 2-3-2-3-2-3, then 3-4-3-4-3 etc.
Today I am going to go on a few easy day hikes, so I'll take my garmin to clock my miles. I have got to count something for miles. I feel so naked without any miles.

I could not sleep this morning. I was too excited, so I got up and ran. Can you believe I said that? "I got up and ran this morning!" How cool is that? My calf was 100%, not a twinge, nothing. My hamstrings were a little irritated with me and my heart was not really happy to be beating again. Oh and the lungs were a little in shock, but the calves were thrilled to be there and so was I :D I saw a really ugly dog and a dead bat. I took my phone so I wouldn't need one, for luck you know. You never need one when you have one ;D Yoga tomorrow and then 3 miles on Saturday. Dr said 10 -15 miles for the first week, so 10 running miles, 15 including the walking. I figure that will work.
Ok- I jumped on the tramp with my kids last night. I am pretty lame. Once that was obvious, I did a head stand on the tramp and impressed everyone! Some of the other tricks I tried were none to successful. I thought I had broken my neck with a few of them, but everything is OK this morning.
Have a great day!!!! "It's a beautiful day in then neighborhood...."

This is my LAST 0 miles day (except sunday) FOREVER and the rest of my life :) I saw the dead bat, so that means no more injuries for at least 20 years, right? (see yesterdays comments to understand the dead bad omen)
Good luck to you all in your races and long runs tomorrow! I am going to try 3 and see how it goes. The legs are great! :) Oh, and they feel good too ;D
Oh- I bought a bunch of shock bloc's and jelly beans. I am very excited to start long runs again in a few weeks (next month, actually)
Hope you all see a dead bat soon!
30 min yoga :D | |

12:30 average for the running. I am trying not to obsess about pace, thus I am not paying attention to the garmin.
The running part of this morning was great. I woke up with a massive migraine and ran anyway. This usually helps the head. NOT TODAY. Oh my gosh, I pretty much wanted to DIE the whole run. Again, the legs felt GREAT and the running natural and NICE. The head was a BEAST!!! I can't believe my brain would try to ruin a perfectly good running day ;)
I took my first ice bath. HOLY CRAP!!! 23 min until the ice was gone. Then I showered in HOT and then took a hot bath until my legs were defrosted. They feel AWESOME now :D
Question about order of events: Walk, stretch, run, walk, stretch, ice bath, hot bath, eat, session of yoga later in the day? What do you think?
Runners are NUTS!!!! ;D I have always know than I am nuts, now I know where I fit in :)

"You'll accomplish more later if you take some time for yourself"
I got this in my fortune cookie Saturday night at dinner. I have to keep reminding myself that it is alright to miss Hobble Creek. I really want to run it.
Is there any way to do it with out hurting myself? Walk a mile run a mile? It would take me six hours! It is really hard to give this dream up. I have been planning to run Hobble Creek 2008 for almost 2 years. Anyway... :(
This week the plan is more slow running. I will for sure, continue the ice baths. They are truly a miracle... only second to yoga ;)
Great races this weekend, everyone. I know that some of you were disappointed in the outcomes of your races. I only wish you could see how amazing you are. It may seem like a disappointment to you, but, HOLY COW, your running on your worst day is still AWESOME to 99.9% of the entire world population! The way you think, the way you train, but more importantly, the way you live your lives. Everyday, I am in awe of what you do, what you can command from your body. WOW, really WOW! Bravo to you ALL!

Only a 10 min ice bath today. I ran out of ice :) My tub is an old iron one, so it stays VERY cold. I cannot believe the tremendous effect it has on post running legs. They feel perfect. I just wish it wasn't so cold ;D
Great to run! Beautiful day! I'll check out all of your runs after lunch! Good luck and be safe!

I have got to quit watching the Olympics at night. I am fully addicted (and want to look like them). All of them. Is it possible to undo 16 years of inactivity and obesity and look like a beach volley ball player for my 40's? I think the 6 kids DESTROYED the abs, bless their hearts. The legs and arms are ok, but dang, the rest is pretty shot all to Hades!
Enough useless rambling, the run was unbelievable this morning! Lovely and hot and nice and great! I am off to the Bath of Ice and Doom. Magic!
What a glorious thing to be able to run! Just glorious! Now it would actually exceed glorious if I looked like any of the women swimmers or volley ball players, (or even some of the men cyclists! ;)
| | Holy Crud! What a gorgeous day! I am so in love with this weather. I know it is going to be gone soon :( It is just so STINKIN' perfect!!!
I literally could not wake up this morning. At 7 I finally dragged myself out of bed only to return moments later. I fought the magnetism of my bed for the better part of an hour. I finally ate a piece of wonder bread and got out of the house. Once the sun hit me, I was sold on the run. It felt great. I am having a REALLY hard time not running faster. I want to push myself. Now don't get me wrong, I am a VERY lazy person. I love to sit on the couch and watch movies ALL DAY (or scour the internet for cemetery records ;), but when it comes to running, I want to burn myself out. I think I need a doctor of the psychiatric persuasion.
Oh, I feel so bad! I got into bed last night fully intending on staying up ALL night watching the Olympics, but... I snuggled into my hubby and didn't last more than one vault ... or whatever they were doing. I was out like a light. Apparently, my body was a bit tired and didn't care how the US women's gymnasts did.
I hope you all are having a great day! I am getting really excited about cheering you all on at Hobble Creek next week! Woo Hoo GO FRB!!!!

I have got to not stay up for the olympics! But I just can't help it! I thought that one dude on the still rings was DEAD when he fell! Man was it exciting last night. I actually screamed when the other guy fell off the high bar. (I am really bad with names, except for Phelps and Misty May)
We (yes, Kim R is back :) left at TEN o'clock! STUPID! I had to walk a bit after mile three cause I was feeling like CRAP!!! Oh well! I will not do that again! The legs are good :)
I should be at just about 20 miles this week. Dr Brady said that was Okee Dokee! He also said I sould run more on the DREADMILL! Maybe he does not know everything ;D Just kidding... he is all knowing!!!

It's really hard to tell the difference between "needing" to take a break and just being too lazy to run. I am going to err on the side of caution and take today off. My legs feel great, maybe I am just being lazy? (those dang olympics!!!) Ok, I'll go run just 2 miles right now. Slow and flat. I'll be right back :D
I'm back :) Nice slow easy run. Ave pace 11:12. Boy it sure feels good to run. I am glad I went :D Lots of smiles today.
I am going to make raspberry jam today. YUMM! The humming birds are buzzing my window! David has the day off. Life is GOOD!!! We are going to the Bombay House for dinner tonight! LIFE ROCKS!! I love indian food. We are going to the temple tonight after dinner to do a bunch of Family File sealings :) Wow, life is great today! Hey, I may even get some more cupboard painted :D OH and yesterday we found 42 ccents! I am RICH to boot! Oh and speaking of rich, our gasoline bill was only $300 this month! I am blessed!
Have a great day! Be safe and swift!!!

Beautiful morning!!! WOW a ton of Hobble Creek runners were out this morning doing training runs. I went five with Kim, she has another five to go today :) Not me- I am done and a smidge over my planned miles.
The running is feeling really good as far as the legs go. My cardio is holding me back at this point. I am so surprised at how tired I am during the runs. I am going to make sure next week is a lot slower than this week. Some of you may think that it is not possible to go any slower, but I assure you I can ;)

Goals for the week-
Mileage- 23 miles
I did not realize what time it is. I have got to get hopping if we are going to make it to church! EEEEeeeek!!!!!
...Back from church and glad everyone survived! The opening hymn was "Count your many Blessings." I had two choices- cry or laugh. I laughed. As the hymn was being sung, I was pulling my 4 year old off of my 7 year old and my 11 year old was pinching my 4 year old. My two year old was trying to set a world record for how many times he could run up to his dad on the stand and to see how many cars he could fit in his dads suit. My 16 year old (yes I said 16) had to be told to fold her arms an quit poking the 7 year old. The 4 year old was trying to give me a charlie horse in my forearm as I tried to keep him from attacking the 7 year old. YES, this was just during the opening song! I wonder if the thought to stay home and watch a movie was inspiration or just me being a big chicken. My husband just giggles from his comfy spot on the stand. Oh well- sunday school was much more relaxing and by Relief Society I was feeling much better and actually stole my friends baby and played with him :) I suppose I am not too scared from the whole affair!
And people wonder why I find running relaxing ;D

Very FLAT route, very pokey pace. I intended to go very slowly this morning, but who knew I could "run" that slow? I did Chick a dude though? He was pretty old and I think he was picking up trash, so I'm not sure this counts :) I am off to work and I need a shower!!! I hope you all have a GREAT day.

These allergies are KILLING me... I guess. I am POOPED. My first mile was UPHILL and my second mile was downhill. Check out the splits and go figure. I felt like I was running through a swamp. My right tensor fasciae latae (how is that for a BIG word?) is bugging me. That is the muscle thingy that holds the IT band to the hip. I have got a bunch of stretches to help it. I think my piriformis is at work again trying to thwart my running efforts. That stupid muscle is a big pain in the BUTT!! hahahahahhahaha :) Oh well! More stretching and more stretching :) I am down 5 lbs from when I started the blog so that is good news! Now just 20 more and I can be Kerri Walsh for Halloween :) I am talking my sister-in-law, Mandy, into being Misty May. While I am no where near as tall as Kerri, Mandy is 5 inches shorter than I am so we can have the right height ratio. We can be May and Walsh- the post children years! :D
Have a wonderful safe day!!!

School days! I am not a big fan of school. I really like my kids home with me, but alas, this happens every year and I have to get over it. They are all excited and happy to go. I have one in High School, Jr High and 2 in Elementary and one in preschool. I will have one baby home with me for a few hours a few days a week. I could run with him in the jogger stroller for some resistance training through the winter. ;)
As for my run. I ran the same route this morning as I did on monday only SIX MINUTES FASTER!!!! The legs felt great and the cardio part is getting better every day. The temperature was PERFECT!!! The route I have been running is the Onion Days 5k route. I have never realized that it is ever so slightly down hill for the first half and then a tad bit uphill to the end.
My music this morning was perfect. It seemed to randomly be playing a mellow song then an Evanescence song. It was just right how it relaxed me as I got tired and stresses and then picked me up as I slowed down. Wonderful, although I learned that you should not listen to music that makes you cry when you run. It can be hazardous :) I was listening to Sally DeFord's "If the Savior Stood Beside Me" http://www.defordmusic.com/ifthesaviorstoodbesideme.htm (Scroll down to the two part treble version) It is so beautiful, but I nearly tripped on a rock :D
Anyway- Have a GREAT day and keep on keeping on!!!

What a beautiful lazy day. I love it when David is home in the morning. There is no need to hurry around in the morning. He is so great. I can run, shower and get ready for the day at a very easy pace. See, life is just like running, you need some easy days to rebuild and refocus.
I am SO loving the sprinklers! I ran through about 3 yard this morning. I have been a bit afraid to do it because of what happened a few weeks ago. I did not blog it cause it really frightened me. But know that I know it was a fluke- here goes. About 2 weeks ago, I was running with a really bad migraine. I felt horrible. I decided to run through a mowing strip of sprinklers. Well about 10 feet past the sprinklers my vision completely went out of focus and I was reeling in pain and nausea. Fortunately my friends live about 2 houses away from the onset of this "episode." I staggered to their porch and sat there. I felt too stupid to knock (stupid I know) and waited until it passed, about 10 min. I figured if I passed out or died, they'd find me and know what to do :) I am guessing it was a combination of the migraine & the heat- it was really hot that morning. So there you have it- my fear of sprinklers, although today's soakings in many different yards yielded no episodes of any sort.
Today's run was a bit tiring, but nice. I love this beautiful summer-fall weather. It feels so great and I am trying to soak of much up of it as I can. AND I am SO going to be Kerri Walsh for Halloween! May and Walsh ROCK THE WORLD!!!! Holy smokes!!!

Nice morning. The first 2 miles and the last one were the worst The rest felt really good. A cute black lab ran with me about 4 of the miles. I thought he might get killed by passing cars. Then I was worried that I might get killed by drivers mad at me about the dog running all over the road. We both made it. OOOOOoooooooo dead snakes! I saw two. I don't like snakes AT ALL and had the heebie jeebies for a while after each sighting. YUCK!!!! Dead snakes can not be a good omen!
Oh- I tried the hat, and my husband agreed with me that all the hats in the world will not make me look like Kerri Walsh. He actually did not say a word, just giggled a bit when I told him that I didn't think the hat helped with my Kerri impression :) Reguardless of how the hat made me look, it worked like a DREAM!!! I am going to get a visor today. The hat was great but the top of my head was all sweaty and itchy. I am glad I tried it! No more sun blindness :D YEAH!!! Oh and Michelle- my neighbor loves the idea of us wearing the "uniforms" for halloween ;)
Have a great day and great races tomorrow! I will be at the Hobble Creek finish in a green, blue and yellow tie dyed t-shirt & a FRB poster. See you there!!!

Nice easy run this morning to round out my miles for the week. I had to get up and get going to see the race at Hobble Creek. I was very early because I thought the race began at 7. Well, it started at 7:30. So, I helped move tables and get the water ready. It was fun to help. Sarah and her darling kids came to cheer on the FRB's (or FBR's if you are me :) It was SO great to meet her and spend some time chatting. Now lets see if I can recall all of the FRB's we saw... Well MichelleL #1 for sure, and MarcieJ, Josse, Amber, now I am going to get this all out of race order, so I won't even try. Let's see, Kelli came up and introduced herself- she has the MOST BEAUTIFUL hair! I kid you not- WOW!!! We met her super buff hubby too! We saw Tom and Kim, Laurie and KrashMan and kids. Jody and BS (Brent and Sylvie) and JonA and Scooby. Oh, I know that I am going to forget someone! You guys were ALL so great!!! It was SO wonderful to put real live people to all of these cyber friends of mine! WOW it was great!!!! When's the next FRB party? My house labor day for a potluck breakfast after the onion days race. I think Sarah might be coming. I'll make the pancakes :D

Last week went really well. The calves are doing great. My cardio is improving. I am hoping to be back to where I was by the first of october. This week I am planning for 25 miles. I have been doing half my miles on totally flat routes and half on my regular hilly routes. The variety has been really nice.
I am hoping church goes well this week. I bet it will be just fine. I'll do some Yoga before I head out the door ;) If not, Barry said he might be able to hook me up with some Valium. :D Anyway- the day looks beautiful and the boys are currently eating toast, shirtless, singing with their hands over their ears. I really don't understand boys. Ever so cute- just a bit odd though. At least the tattoos they were COVERED in last sunday are mostly faded this week. Oh yeah, did I mention that while David and I were out last week, the boys literally covered their bodies with pirate tattoos! Arms, legs, tummies, faces... not a speck missed :) So not only did they act like Hells Angels at church, they looked like them too!!! The best part about our ward is that it is FULL of older couples who are really kind and understanding. They just watch us and smile and give me a thumbs up or a wink as I drag the hoolagans out by their... actually whatever I can grab.
Have a great Sunday everyone!

Monday monday! I cannot get over how beautiful sunrise is! I am sitting at my desk looking out my window and the sun coming through the sprinkers. All the the flowers, roses, black eyed susans, holy hocks and hastas, look so beautiful and sparklie in the sunlight! Even the weeds look pretty this morning! Although they are all going to DIE tonight when we pick them and throw them away! (evil laugh) I am going to miss summer! sigh!!!
Monday means off to Provo to teach a class. I'll be back after lunch to see how everyone is feeling after all the excitement this weekend!!!

Can I just say I am SO glad that I can run EVERYDAY!!! I went back and read an email Sasha sent me when I first started FRB about how focusing on speed/pace can really cause some problems for runners. It really helped me to remember that running nicely paced miles is the best thing for me and will go a long way to keep me happy and injury free. I am SO grateful for this blog and all of you friends of mine!!
OK serious business- FRB t-shirts. I heard that at one time a "You've just been CHICKED" shirt was in the works. Today on my run I came up with a few more. How about:
Some day I'm gonna CHICK you!!! -FRB.com
Go ahead and CHICK me... make my day!!! -FRB.com
To CHICK or not to CHICK - that is the question! -FRB.com
CHICKED by FRB.com
And by Lucia-
I'll CHICK you later! -FRB.com
CHICK me out! -FRB.com

FRB Labor Day Potluck Breakfast at my house after the Onion Day's 5k & 10 K. I am providing the pancakes (banana chocolate chip) and waffles(whole wheat belgian), Michelle is bringing strawberries & pineapple, and Sarah is bringing the paper products. We are meeting at my house between 6 and 6:15 and then walking over to the race start. Feel free to meet us there or at the end of the race too and walk back with us :) There is a parade at 10 if anyone enjoys that type of torture! Funny how we'll run for days, but make us watch a parade and we would rather run for days :D Everyone is welcome- especially your families. Our house isn't big or fancy, but we've got a lot of grass and love to have company. We even have a creek to soak your race weary legs ;)
As for the run today, maybe my garmin is broken or maybe I am getting better ;) I was crunched for time today, so I pushed harder today than I have in a long while. It wasn't too bad. The funny part was that I felt like I was slowing down the whole last mile. Anyway, I ran up the canyon 2 miles and then down. The first and last miles were on 6th east, slight up and slight down. I focused on "less" of a toe strike to help the calves, which were fine :D Woo Hoo!!! All my miles for the rest of the week will be really slow, so that maybe I can keep up with Sarah for the 5 k on monday :) It is SO flat!!!
I was listening to The Smiths- "Girlfriend in a Coma" first song out- and I had forgotten how much I LOVE the Smiths!! They just crack me up, especially, "Some Girls are Bigger than Others" I play them for my kids and they just look confused! Generation gap- I guess!!!

I hope you all have a GREAT day and can't wait to see you on Monday :) It is supposed to be about 78 degrees for the high and stormy. Cool, less people will be parking all over my side yard. If you are coming for the race and breakfast, you really might want to park at my house before the race, as the parking gets full from the parade voyeurs and carnival goers :D Let me know if you need my address and I will PM it to you.

Payson Onion Days 5K (3.1 Miles) 00:30:57, Place overall: 58, Place in age division: 8 | | Party....don't let your mama know! Party....or she won't let you go!!
We had a GREAT time today with all of our FRB's! Let's see who came; Sarah, Sasha & Crew, Kelli & Scott, Jon A, Kellie & Tyler, Michelle, Paul & the men and my David and off spring. It was so much fun to see everyone out in force. I am sure there were more bloggers out there that I did not know :( Next year, we want everyone to come for sure!!
Now for my race report- Thanks to Julia and Sasha I made it in under 31 minutes. Julia was my pacer for the race. She lost me for mile two, but at the beginning of mile three she was walking and so we hooked up again. She was fantastic. We started out way too fast, but it's hard to hold back the sweet pacer, ah youth! I paid for it in mile 2. Sasha saved the day at 2.5 miles. I was pretty pooped and he coaxed me along and I did it! I was feeling pretty bummed that I am so slow, but I looked up my results from my last OFFICIAL 5k (onion days) and I have improved. Last time I placed 99th and 13th in my division with a time of 37:18. So I really did a TON better! I am going to keep this whole running thing up and see what happens next year ;)
Oh, and for the icing on the cake, I got to ride my bike while Michelle and Sasha ran 4 more miles. I kept up, but barely. They can sure haul. My breaks are horrible on my bike, so, I was a bit afraid on the down hill.
Great day! Great fun!

My calves were pretty tight at .5 miles and so I stopped and stretched for a bit. That helped a ton. I really like the calf stretches that Dr Brady gave me. They really relieve the tension! The run felt really great and at about 2.25, I considered adding a few extra miles. I am really glad I didn't, because at mile 2.75 my quads decided they had had enough. They turned to lead. I forced them on, because I had to get home :) They loosened up at about 3.25 and didn't say much after that. I stretched at home and had a beautiful crookneck tomato scramble with a smidge of sour cream and peach salsa. Oh, and for a special treat I had a piece of homemade whole wheat toast with the super YUMMY peach jam that Michelle made! Holy SMOKES, was that a tasty treat!!! Michelle is quite the domestic goddess!! Oh, and I found 11 cents today! I am rich! Tonight I will bike per Sasha's instructions.

My legs were solid lead today. The first mile was ok, but after that it was not so hot. I had planned on 4 miles today, but I turned it around at 1.5 because I just plain thought I should. Nothing really hurt, I just figured I should let the legs off of the hook since they did not get a day of rest after the race on monday. The paces were really slow today. The last split would have been REALLY slow, except I picked up the pace considerably for the last .4 mi :D I thought if I my legs were going to be lead anyway- I may as well make them go faster :D I should take an ice bath, but I am so stinkin' cold I just cannot bare it!
I found 2 pennies :) and I was almost killed :( Seriously- I had to get off the road and he still came with in inches of taking me out. I am still pretty freaked out about the whole thing. There had to be a legion of angels keeping me safe today, truly. My mantra of "Live to run another day," has a whole new meaning now.
Have a great day!

Nice run today. KimR came along :) It is fun to run with a friend :D The legs were better than yesterday, but still not fresh. I am wondering if they will ever be fresh? Maybe I am too old for freshness ;D Anyway- we left pretty late and that is WONDERFUL! The weather is so nice. We got lost running a route backwards so our 4.3 miler turned into 5 miles :) As soon as I am done blogging I am going to go for a bike ride. I am going to shoot for 90 minutes of running/biking per day. So I will be riding for 32 minutes today. David got my jogger stroller all cleaned up and filled with air, so I will be taking the boys with me too. I need to figure out how to hook it up to the bike. I hope I have all of the parts to do it still :) For those of you have been blessed to see my carport, you know that a little wheel attachment could be LOST FOREVER!!!
Have a WONDERFUL day! I love the fall!!! :D

60 min of Kundalini yoga - I hate the breath of fire! I LOVE yoga. Not my favorite class, but good for me anyway :) Did I say that I LOVE yoga already!
WARNING--- Introspective post today. What do I really want? I want to see what I can make my body do, after so many years of neglect and abuse. I want to see what kind of shape I can get into, or out of, depending on how you look at it J I have always wanted to be a runner, ever since I can remember. It is only recently that I have been able to find the willingness to put the work in to get there. I realize that I am a marginal runner, by comparison to the many other runners we all know, I just have this nagging feeling inside that I can be better, stronger, faster… yeah, I used to watch the Million Dollar Man :) But seriously, am I willing to put in the work to take it to the next level? I am committed to running 6 days a week and increasing my mileage. Sasha was saying monday, that I need to increase my mileage as it feels right, as my body dictates. Well, here is the problem, I have ignored my body for so long, that it is really hard to hear it. It says, go faster, it says, sleep in, it says, run more miles, it says never run again. I am sure that as time goes, I will get better at listening and telling the difference between my body and my ego. I already have in many respects. As for my diet- it has improved 100% over what it had been for the previous 18-20 years. But as I have gotten into better shape, I see many more ways that it needs to improve. It feels a bit overwhelming and discouraging, so I will do what I have learned to do thus far- focus on ALL of the really good changes I have made, and build on them. I know now that I can do hard things. I can run, all be it slow. I can make good choices. I can make good choices more often. I can do this! I can take charge of my fitness and see where it leads me! I love the improvements I have already seen. I want to see more. I don’t know what will happen…I guess we’ll see :D

Today was a very nice run with KimR. We were only going to go 3.6, but then Kim remembered a football game tomorrow, so we upped the miles today so we could fit a shorter run in before she has to go at 7am tomorrow :) All's well that ends well! :D The run was tiring (how do you spell that?) I think the yoga and biking may be aiding my poop-ed-ness! Oh well, as Michelle says, I must set my Amazon Goddess free ;) LOL!!! I ate pretty well yesterday. I may have overdone it on the watermelon! It is so tasty right now, I just can't help it! I have noticed that the more fruit I eat, the less I crave garbage. My weight is almost recovered from my Labor Day Weekend CRAP binge. I will SO never do that again! (probably ;)

What a beautiful day in the neighborhood! I woke up and did 30 min of yoga :D Then David drove Kim R and me up the canyon to the Maple Dell and we ran down. We kept the pace very relaxed and conversational. We saw 4 deer and a bunch of cows. My legs feel great. I am going to get in 30 min of biking after breakfast. I am starved! Last night I was inspired by Michelle's lasagna, and so I made spaghetti. I have been CRAVING beef, so I threw some extra extra lean beef into the yummy sauce. I also took an iron supplement to ward of anemia. I need to be sure to get my supplements in to ward of any deficiencies I might be creating with the increased activity.
MAJOR BREAK THROUGH!! We went to Stan's in Provo last night with our girls after the temple. I have not been to Stan's since college. They make the best shakes in the WHOLE world! Anyway, I ordered a peanutbutter hot fudge shake. YUMM!! Drum roll please, I only ate half! I have NEVER eaten just half. I know some of you really good eaters are thinking I was going to say I passed, but...no, I ate only half and that is GREAT for me. Next time, my girls and I decided that we would just split one between us. I am so excited I did that :)

I am so glad that I seem to be coming back just fine from my calf injury. I am pretty sure what went wrong. I was not running slow enough on most of my days. I was also running the natural hills around my home every day and not enough flat runs. I also did that little sprint on the day it pulled. Running slow and relaxed most of the time and flat routes 1/2 of the time is making a HUGE difference. I recovered from the 5k a ton faster with no complications, only a little calf tightness.
This week is a cut back week. I'll only be running 21.5 miles this week. I will be biking to make up the time so I get 90 minutes every day. David adjusted my handle bars and that has helped a TON. I also bought some fancy gloves, which has also shown a great deal of benefit. Yoga is planned for 60 minutes each day as well. Surrender fat, surrender!!!
Nutrition plan for the week. I will continue to eat mainly whole foods (90/10 split J ). I am going to put some time frames on my meal times. I am one of those slothful servants who must be commanded in ALL things J . I find that as with ALL disciplines, rules and structure are quite helpful as you acquire new skills and habits. As I mentioned in my diatribe last week, I have ignored my body’s requests for so long, that it has been a bit tricky to learn to hear it’s needs clearly. I also am in the habit of ignoring it, and need some work there.
I am very confident that over the next year I will see the progress I am looking for. I just need to remember patients for my body and my inner self. I can do this! I can do hard things J!
Have a WONDERFUL Sunday!!! Great racing, everyone! I am feeling quite ill today, so I am going to rest! I think it is just a cold ;) Although it could be a major aversion to attending Stake Conference with my sweet little boys! Good luck, Honey!!!
Oh yeah- We, David, the kids and I went to Salt Lake last night to Leslie's benefit fundraiser party for her Son-in-law Paul who has recently suffed a major stroke. I was really a great party and wonderful to see so many people there to support Paul, Julie and Les. Thanks for inviting us Leslie. The food was great and we had a wonderful time. The kids love their t-shirts and fought over the leftovers for breakfast this morning! You are an amazing lady to put all of that together!!!

If yesterday was Molasses Monday, today was Turtle Tuesday. I was officially VP (virtually pregnant per Sasha's designation). I ran the flat route today. It was really nice out side today. David was home this morning, so I got to sleep in and go out very leisurely! It is Mac's fifth birthday today. He is so cute :D He picked out Spiderman cupcakes with the bluest frosting I have ever seen. Ah to be five! He is turning out to be a great bike rider. My two year old, Will, is the runner, I think. He runs up and down the block over and over again, barefoot and in a diaper. Maybe he has his Papa's genes. My dad still holds several records in California from High School in track. We are going to Ca next month where he is being inducted to the Hall of Fame. Kind of cool, Eh? Speed is in my genes, but I think it is being squished by my jeans!
Have a GREAT day!!!

Nice run this morning with Kim R on our usual hilly route. There was the ever slightest drizzle of rain at the beginning and at the end :) I am amazed at how much better I do with half of my run uphill. I may run faster up hill than I do on flat. I am going to have to study that one out.
Anyhoo- I have got to get on my bike and work this booty off! BTW, I have GAINED 8 lbs since I have added the extra activity in! ARGH!!!!! :( I am not a happy camper. I'll be fine...right? Trust in the training!

For those of you who have not met me, I have the flattest bum in the WHOLE world. Seriously, pancakes have more shape! I would love to have a cute perky bum. Well, when I run I NEVER feel any muscles in my bum, other people who I run with do, but I never do. Well today MY I COULD FEEL MY BUM MUSCLES! Do you think I can "grow" a cute bum? I am SO excited!
Oh and by the way- the run was great today. 52 degrees, Kim R along and the sun shining! The legs are feeling good. The first mile and a half were CRAP, but then the bod woke up and the rest were good times :D

So I bundled up and headed to the dump ;) I did flat today and, well, my splits say it all. I am feeling very tired and worn out, not for the rest of the day, just during the exercise. Ok- now to get the laundry done and clean this big mess of a house :) Oh- I'll go biking with the boys after I get everyone off to school and the kitchen detoxified ;D

The run this morning was BEAUTIFUL! Ford, my 7 year old, wanted to come today. He ran with us for the first half mile or so. He was freezing, as he would not believe me and wear a hoodie. Anyway, he did great. Two days in a row for Ford. Kim and I ran the rest alone. We went to Salem and back on the highway. It was really nice and felt easy and relaxed. I am going to finish my breakfast and then go for a bike ride. My boys want me to take them riding ALL DAY!!! I just tell them that mommy is pooped out! Hey- the scale is FINALLY moving down :D

Ride your own bike! :) I love that my being active is causeing my boys to want to run and ride their bikes more. Even some of my neighbors are getting out more. I am starting an activity revolution in Payson!!
Yoga 60 minutes- This was a Kundalini class where we focused on the third chakra. The entire class was made up of several kriyas that brought flexibility & fire to the third chakra. "A well-developed third chakra empowers us to live our best lives, reduce inertia and take action toward our goals. It is our storage battery for personal strength." Now before you think I am a total WACK job, just know that Kundalini is NOT my favorite type of yoga at all. I do the classes that I don't like, in order to create a balance in my practice. Also, I have found that I learn the most from doing things that I don't like or do well.
** Right now, before ALL the 22 milers post, I am on the third page of the mileage board! Holy cow!! I am all impressed with myself for a moment. I know this will all diapear when everyone posts today, but for now, I am pretty excited! :D Is there someone I should call?

Oh, what a beautiful morning, oh, what a beautiful day! I've got a beautiful feeling, everything's going my way :D
This weather is my absolute favorite! In case you are wondering why I am in such a good mood, even with a croupy 2 year old, well... my weight is FINALLY dropping :D YEAH!!! Halleluiah!!! Anyway, I am also pretty excited because last week went so well. I am finally feeling like I am getting used to ALL of this extra exercise. Woo Hoo! I am probably going to LIVE ;D
Rest week over... this week is back to building running miles. I am going by the 10% rule, sort of. This week is 26 running miles. I will bike up to 90 minutes per day of kick my bum exercise ;) I have been converting the biking into running miles by dividing the total biking minutes by 12 (Sasha's conversion # for me). 12 minutes of biking = 1 mile of running. My actual biking miles have not been as many as they have been without the trailer and kids. I also have been trying to bike on the flattest roads I can find. The gloves I bought at the bike store have helped immensely with the numbness and soreness in my hands and arms. Oh yeah, yoga everyday too. My IT band is finally getting over itself and not killing my hip anymore. Yippee!!!
I think I have got a handle on the starvation feeling. I am making sure to eat every two hours to satisfaction. For those of you familiar with the Weight Watchers Core Plan, that is what I am following. For those of you not familiar with this food plan, it has NO Points. It has you eat from a list of wholesome and nutritious foods without tracking. The list of foods consists of lean meats, beans, whole grains, fat free dairy, fruits and vegetables, basically. Anyway, I am feeling great. Our peach tree is almost ripe, and I cannot wait to eat them all.
I am very excited to see what this week brings. The weather is supposed to be wonderful, so life is good. I wish you all well this week.

MM (molasses monday :)- Last night when I went to bed, I already did not want to get up in the morning. I should have known that was a BAD sign ;0 Well, I have not had such a hard time getting up in the morning in a long time. I had myself almost convinced to just take the boys in the jogger later and stay asleep. Anyway- I finally dragged myself out of bed in just enough time to be back for the kids to get off to school. :D It was a beautiful run. It felt great, all be it slow. At least I got my negative splits in :D I just finished my breakfast and now we are off for a bike ride :)

Biking- 43 minutes converts to 2.58 running miles. Again with the boys. I think the steroids that Will is on for the croup is causing a little cranky-ness. The bike ride was filled with screams and yelling from the trailer. AUGH, yet again. Oh well. I think I need a nap as much as my boys do.
Yoga 60 minutes- This was a back bend class with Necia. It was a total disaaster. The boys fought the whole time. At one point I had to stop and drag, literally, Mac (5) to his room for a time out. ARGH!!! I still got a great workout, just not the "Zen" I was looking for. I guess I am going to have to get up at 6 and do yoga first. Although my run felt a lot better without the yoga first. Humm. What shall I do? It's a quandry ;)

I woke up at 4:48 am. It was clear that I was up for the day so I got up and did my yoga class and then went running. Now I just need to get the boys ready and bike :) I have so much to do today and I need to get going. The run was nice and somewhat relaxing. I am feeling VERY stressed right now by many things in my life. I am going to take a look at what can be cut out. We will see how that goes.

Yoga- 62 minutes Great class today. We did my favorites- headstands! We did hand stands and fore arm stands too. I am amazed at how much my IT band has stopped bothering me since I have resumed my yoga practice. Yeah!!

Now, I woke up feeling pretty regular, you know the morning, "I'd rather stay in bed" feeling, except not even as bad as some days. Anyway, I deciede to run first and do yoga later. So I headed off. My calves were pretty tight, so I stopped to stretch a few times. The first three miles felt really great and relaxed. It was dark so I couldn't see my garmin, good thing. At mile 3 I really did no feel so well. I wanted to stop. At 3.5 miles I started to get a stitch in my side, like I do when I am running my very fastest. Anyway, after looking at my splits I guess I am sick ;) Geez-louise! I feel pretty warn out and tired. I went to the store and bought everything that looked good. I bought bananas, cantelope, pineapple, grapes, strawberries and oranges. I have already taken the last 2 days off of work and I am still trying to find a sub for tonights meeting. I sure hope I can. I think I can keep this from getting full blown if I can just rest a bit. David will be home tomorrow morning and all day Friday.

The run was very nice this morning. I felt great when I woke up this morning! YEAH!! The run felt great except for the last mile and a half. I was really tired for that portion of the run. The biking was tiresome. I am tired now. I am going to do some laundry today, but not much else. Fortunately I was able to get a sub last night so I could rest. The two days of rest made a big difference for me, I'm sure. Tomorrow Michelle is going to pace me for a 5k. I am planning on making salsa tomorrow too. I am going to grill all of the peppers and onions, when I say "I" I mean David ;) It should be tasty! My calves were pretty tight so I stopped and rubbed them out at about .7 miles into the run.

Thanks Michelle for your most excellent race coaching! I learned SO much! I am going to have to figure out a payment/lure to get this FANTASTIC training from you on a more regular basis- say, like once a month or something? Do you need service hours? :D
Michelle and Alli came by this morning for a little redemption. They paced Kim and me on the Onion Day's 5k route. They got here at o'dark hundred and ran the route first. Kim and I slept :) We jogged over to the start. It was pretty dark, but the stars and moon made it just right. The temperature was perfect for a run. My brain has suddenly turned to mush- must eat!

9:39- this mile felt just fine. Michelle kept telling me to "shut it!"
9:20- started to get a stitch and be very fatigued. Michelle started to really coach me here. I learned a TON about race strategy.
9:35- my legs were numb, all warm and fuzzy, and Michelle was trying to get me to slap her hand and I couldn't make my legs do it, so she slapped my bum :) I did get one good slap in at one point and another wimp slap toward the end. Michelle told me to "set my Amazon Goddess free." All I could think was "the amazon goddess is all tied up in fat and can't get loose." :D lol
:59 (.1) It finally clicked in my brain that no matter how fast I ran, it was still going to be VERY uncomfortable, so I may as well run faster. Michelle had been saying this the whole last half, but it did not make sense until the very end.

Hey, yesterday I took, or I should say Michelle took, 1 min 20 seconds off of my 5k on Labor Day :)
Today's run was low and slow. I had to stop at a 1/2 mile due to severe calf cramps. I stretched and rubbed them out and then they were fine. We walked a lot during the first 4 miles off and on. The legs were MUSH, well not so much mush as TOTALLY NOT FRESH! The complete opposite of fresh :) The last two miles were just fine. I am guessing the legs just had to get the idea that there was no way out of this run today.
Today I am making salsa FOR SURE!! I roasted all of the garlic, peppers and onions yesterday. The tomatoes are peeled. Now I just have to throw it all together and VOILA!!! Yummy salsa! Salsa is DONE :) 18 quarts! But I tripped in the carport over David's STUPID car that he is working on and busted up my ankle and elbow! They HURT!!!!! I'm so ticked at him. This week I have 28.6 miles planned for. I am going to bike as to make my miles 8 every day.
I have SO much more to say regarding my goals and ideas but I have got to get busy with the kids :) I just want you all to know how much I appreciate your help, advice and mostly your encouragement and I try to become the best runner I can be. Molasses Monday :D What a grand tradition! My legs felt really cool and skinny this morning :) They felt light. I realize this did not reflect in my anti-speed pace, but it was an unusual feeling worth noting. I had bad dreams all night, but slept ok reguardless. TT(turtle tuesday) :D About a mile and a half into the run, I started getting another migraine :( Three days in a row. Bummer :( The run was fine. I decided to do the run because it was almost as far to just finish, as it was to turn around. Migraines tend to give me a bit of tummy trouble, so thankfully, an office was open in the middle of the OD 5k route that I could use :D All of the VPB's were over barbed wire fences. I did get so mad after my second migraine yesterday that I drank 88oz of diet pepsi, ate a Snickers and a McDonalds Double Cheeseburger. That will show my head! I had nightmares all night long, no wonder, but I feel great this morning. We shall see what the day brings :) I am guessing it will bring some laundry and dishes with a tad bit of attitude and some diaper changing ;) Does anyone want to potty train my 2 year old for me?
Have a wonderful day :)

"I've heard it said, that people come into our lives for a reason, bringing something we must learn.
"And we are led to those who'll help us most to grow, if we let them, and we help them in return.
"Well, I don't know if I believe that's true, but I know I'm who I am today, because I knew you!!!"

Corny, I know- but I could never be achieving these goals I have set for myself with out all of your advice, support and kindness! Thank you so much!
Today's run was very slow and pleasant. I stopped 3 times to stretch out the calves and once for a porta-potty break. I forgot to stop the garmin. Every time I checked my pace it was just under 13 m/m so I am guessing that is about my average-ish.
I hope you all are feeling well and have a GREAT day!

Kim and I ran on the most wonderful trail EVER!!! We got onto the canal road by Springlake Elementary and ran into Santaquin. It was a slight down hill for the first half and then a slight up hill back ;) The road was great. Nothing like the portion that goes through Salem. It is shady nearly the whole way. This is going to be one of our new favorites! Hopefully we can run it a few more times before it gets too wet. It will be a muddy mess this spring. We've gone on it for less than a mile before, but never 4 miles one way. I am so glad we decided to try it today. Yee Haw!!! The run felt really great. I took 12 oz gatorade and 4 jolly ranchers. I am glad I did. I get panicky if I don't know where I am going or if there is water. There was the canal the whole way, but I am not keen on contracting Campylobacter jejuni (seriously bad diarrhea from creek water, unrelated to giardia)! Good times!
I hope everyone is enjoying their tapers. I am, cause it is putting me higher on the mileage board than I have ever been! Woo HOO!!! Have a great party weekend!!!

Gorgeous run today. What fantastic weather! Hopefully we will have the longest fall in all history :) KimR and I ran up main street and back. We ran in the shadow of the mountain. The sun was up just as we were getting back home to my house. It was perfect. There is a straight down hill 2 block stretch and we ran that one fast. The garmin said 7:45. We sang Queen's "We are the Champions" down it. It was LOUD and the neighbors had to be wonderings what in the world was going on. Of course by the bottom of the hill we could not talk, let alone sing :) Good times!
Have a wonderful weekend. I am going to relax today and well... just relax!!! Maybe I'll send the girls to red box for some flicks. I LOVE watching movies and chillin'!

Last week felt really great. Slowing down my pace is making a big difference for me. This week is another mile building week then a rest week the following week. I am going to continue to run my planned mileage and then bike up to 8 miles as I did last week. I am guessing that I will be doing the biking thing until I get up to 8 real miles everyday? Yoga every day too :)
This week I am really going to focus/refocus on my eating. I am going to try really hard to just eat 3 meals and 3 snacks. I have been so hungry the past several weeks that I have been eating all the time. I'll get the hang of this!
| |
Tough run this morning. My calves were VERY tight. I stopped and stretched a few times in the first mile. The rest was fine and felt great aside from the MIGRAINE!! Anyway, I would love to be running right now actually :) I find at about 30 miles a week, I want to run more. Go figure :) I can't run more though, or I will hurt myself!
I am officially addicted to peaches! We have a Diamond Princess tree and the peaches are DIVINE!! I am eating so many peaches :), I may turn into a peach :D
My brain is spaghetti, so I'd better get on the bike and get that done. I really need a nap. The boys are playing with play dough right now. Maybe I should sneak in a nap :)

I ran the Onion Day 5k FLAT route today. I am not a big fan of flat. Oh well. The weather was very beautiful and I got to sleep in :) David has meetings in Salt Lake today so he didn't have to go so early this morning. My calves are starting to get really tense again. I have been rubbing them and stretching them a ton. My head is ok today. I've got to get the stress in my life under control.
I am off to start my day. I am going to go on the canal trail with the bike and see where it goes in Springlake. It's a mystery I need to solve :)

Drama drama drama! I wake up at 6:30 to run with Kim at 7. Well, at 7:05 my daughter wakes me up and tells me that Kim is waiting in the front yard! Ooops! So I hurry and get ready with no potty stop. We get three blocks away and I need a potty break. The park is all locked up so we loop back to my house. We Please follow Fast Running Blog policy regarding vulgar language around (hee hee) for a bit and then finally get off again. Well it is almost a mile before we realize that we are not running :) Well as you see by our splits that the rest of the run was actually running and pretty good :) We had .2 at 7:18 :D We were smokin'!
My son appears to have broken his pinky finger last night so I am off for x-rays and Dr appointments! I am trying not to be too mad that my husband did not take him last night. When David said that he had jammed his pinky on the sofa, I assumed he meant his toe. I thought EVERYONE knew that hands MUST be seen! Toes- who cares! FINGERS ARE A MUST BE SEEN!!!! Argh!!! Oh well, I guess my "give a darn" isn't as busted as I thought! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DFG9dwolo3Q Here is the video incase you missed yesterdays comments!
I sure hope I can get the bike ride and yoga in. The biggest problem is that I have to go to Provo for x-rays! :( Have a great day everyone and be safe!!!

I now you all are heading out today and tomorrow and I wanted to wish you all the best! You have all worked SO hard and I am amazed and in awe of everything you do! YOU GUYS ROCK!!! ps- and thanks for letting me be so high on the mileage board for the past week. Now I know how it feels to be ya'll!!!
No sleep last night :( Will had the stomach flu. David got the first round and then it was my turn. I could not wake up this morning at all. I finally rolled out of bed about 8:30. I took the boys in the jogger for the first time. It was a bit strange, but I think I'll get used to it. My right arm did not like holding on to the the stroller so it got to swing. We saw a train and the boys LOVED that!! They also loved running under I-15 and over the old train tracks! Mac and Will argued over weather the horses were cows or horses and Mac wanted to know if any of them were donkeys. Good times! Pre-school and running all that the same time :D
I am seriously toying with the idea of running the Ogden Marathon. I think I really might like to do it.
I've got peaches to deal with and a long run in the morning. Oh yeah- and TONS of yucky laundry! CRUD!!!!! Have a great day...I'm gonna! ;D
Running 4.2, 50 something. My garmin ran out of juice as I came in the door :) All charged up. I ran the 5 k route backwards. Laps- 12:25, 12:50, 14:44, 14:50 Apparently it is a bit up hill for the last 2 miles. Interresting!

News FLASH!!! Right now at this very moment, I am #9 on the mileage board! HOLY CRAP!!! I my just DIE!!! I think I like all the high milers running a marathon. I get to be king of the hill for a breif moment in time :D
I woke up at 5 am and could not go back to sleep! ARGH!!! Yes, I am a pirate today! At 5:45 it started to rain, but the heavens smiled upon us and it cleared up just in time to have a beautiful run. At six, Kim R, Tricia and I headed out. As I type the sun is just peaking out over the mountain. :) We ran from my house to the canal trail and over to Santaquin. It was pretty dark for the first half. The second half was perfect. My hip flexor and neuromas got a little irritated about mile 7, but knocked it off by mile 8. I was pretty tired for the last two miles. I took the shock blocks with me. They were yummy! I loved them. I did eat only one jolly rancher and 2 of my gatorades from my water belt. I would have liked to have had three. Kim gave me some of her water at about mile 9. I stretched before the run and then after. I am going to go down and do a yoga class right now.
Good luck to all you SGM runners! Post as soon as you can to let us know how you did!

#7 on the mileage board for a little while until the WONDERFUL marathon runners post! I am enjoying my 10 minutes of fame :D
Getting out of bed this morning was harder than ususal. I slept GREAT last night with a ton of weird dreams. My legs did not want to run AT ALL this morning for the whole run. We walked the first mile and about half of the last. I figured it was better to get out and do ANYTHING, than stay in bed and sleep. Did I just say that?
I can't wait to read all of the posts from the marathon today!

Cut back week! THANK HEAVENS!!!
This has been the most wonderful weekend. I really needed it!
Now this is the exact week and mileage that I got injured last time. I am feeling very confident that everything will be ok this time. I have been taking my easy days, a lot easier. I have been running flat routes at least half of my miles. My legs have been very tired from all of the added biking. My shoulders and neck have been sore from all of the plank, four limb staff, and arm balances. I would really like a massage, but no luck. I am still struggling with my hip flexors and my ITB. I have found some stretches that seem to be helping. The rolling pin and my TV remote also make great tools.
I hope that everyone has a great week and a wonderful recovery week for all you SGM runners :) You inspire me!

Slow day. Bad head ache day. If I wasn't 100% sure I was not pregnant, I would swear I was pregnant. The last three weeks have been a nightmare for my brain. I thought I might DIE in the middle of a presentation this morning. Oh well. I haven't done any of the stuff listed below, but I am off to do the yoga, and then the running and biking as soon as the girls get home from school.

My head feels much better today. I am trying to make sure that I drink plenty of water. It's the only thing I can think of to try. My run was sluggish and lead like. It was 44 degrees and BEAUTIFUL! I am off to buy milk and eggs and a birthday present.

Alright, this weather is PERFECT! It's a bit nippy to begin with, but after a warm up, it is UNREAL! The temperature, the humidity, it just feels and smells GREAT! My run was alright as far as my legs go. I think I am going to stick with 25-30 miles a week until I get ten pounds off. Then I'll add by 10% until I can feel myself at the injury threshold again. I'm still going to bike up to the eight miles a day, converted. Slow and steady wins the race!! I am always telling my Weight Watcher members to never do anything one day that will compromise their ability to be active the next day. The goal is to run every day. The goal is to be active EVERYDAY!! It is far better to take it easy on an "off" day and still have legs for the next day, than to overdo and become injured. I need to live what I preach everyday. I want to get the miles up, but I NEVER want to be injured again ;) I need to run everyday. I need this. "Hello, my name is Marion, and I am a run-a-holic!"

Running - 5.56 miles This was not a great run. My legs felt horrible for the first half and then the rest of me followed suit! I walked for a while and contemplated lying down on the road in the sun. I tried running some more and felt faint. I started to "pull to the left" as I was walking. I wonder if I am getting an ear infection. Kim ran home and got the car to pick me up. We'd planned for 6, oh well.
I might go for a bike ride later if I perk up. The laundry is done and the house is somewhat straightened, so I am just going to curl up on the couch and rest until the kids get out of school. I need to get to the Good EArth for some food. I am going to try Quinoa. I hope I like it. It's supposed to be so good for you- right Rachel?

We did the American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer 4 mile walk/run today at Liberty Park. Maurine, Kelli, Kylee, Lynn and I ran. Anna, Ashley, Kate, Jill, Shay, Sarah, Brittany, Ashley, Leslie, Odee and Harold walked. We had a GREAT time! Kelli went to Sugar House park first for her warm-up and then eventually found us at Liberty Park! Thank you Scott for directing her :) It was great! It was so fun to bring my girls and their friends. I loved having my great friend Jill there and my wonderful running friends Kelli, Leslie and Maurine. It was great to finally meet you in person, Maurine! You too Harold and the beautiful Odee! That is one handsom dog! Kylee, you ROCKED!!! You are a runner chick!!!
As a side note- Kylee, my sister-in-law came with us today in honor of her mother, Arelene Pommerville, who battled breast cancer for 17 years and passed away last October. She was a remarkable person who never gave up. Our team name this year was in honor of her-
We will NEVER shrink,
We will NEVER quit,
We will NEVER SURRENDER!!!
All of our love goes to Arelene's 11 children and her sweet husband who ALL loved her and made her life the most amazing thing!

Last week was a good week. Only one headache, well probably two, but better than the previous week. I think water was the problem. I also went to the health food store and bought a bunch of quinoa (KEEN- wah). I bought the whole quinoa and noodles made of it too. I also bought several vitamins too. My hair has quit growing in the last 6 months. I am guessing it is from the increased activity using up all of my nutrients. (my hair used to grow about an inch+ a month, now it is growing about an inch every 10 weeks) Hopefully over time, I will get used to this level of activity. I am noticing that I really do not tolerate "garbage" at all any more. A little is fine, here and there, but more than that makes me straight away sick.
OK- I need your quinoa recipes. I am making "Rice with Eggplant and Potatoes" for dinner tonight, courtesy of KungFuBlonde and Montelepsy. It is one of their family favorites and I am sure to be one of ours too. Thanks again guys! If you want the recipe, I'll PM it too you.
I am planning on running 25 miles again this week. I'll be out of town for a few days and Michelle is going to do a training run with me on Thursday. I don't want to over do anything, so I figured, I'd stick with the lower miles for this week. I posted somewhere that I was going to stick with the 25-30 mile weeks, until I get 10 lbs off. Then I will up my miles by 5. Once I get 10 more off, I will add 5 more miles a week. I am not sure what this plan is called, but it feels right. I am also going to do a time trial 5 k every 10 lbs. It will be an interesting study.
Have a GREAT week everyone!
Dinner report- WOW!!! That recipe was FANTASTIC!!! I went to the store 2 times yesterday to get an eggplant and FORGOT each time. So I took it as a sign and did extra firm tofu and potatoes. I also did 2 C uncooked basmati rice and 1 C uncooked quinoa cooked in chicken broth in my rice cooker. Holy cow!!! I did have extra rice :) Even my "rice hater" husband had seconds. My baby gobbled it up. My girls were a bit hesitant, but all loved it! My super picky 11 year old kept going back for more. Whoo hoo!! The recipe is below in the comments. There is a bit left over for my lunch tomorrow! YEAH!!! Thanks to Rachel (kungfublond)! We can see why this is Mike's favortie recipe!!!

We ran up 6th east and over toward Springlake to the canal trail gate and then back. It was dark and cold. My legs felt GREAT. It was a nice run. Kim R came with me today :D
The following is for future reference. 34 degrees. I wore thermals and tights on the bottom. Long sleeve race shirt, long sleeve cotton shirt. Fleece sweatshirt, ear muffs and gloves. I took the sewatshirt off. My neck was freezing at first, but was ok for the majority of the run. I went through a TON of tissue.
Biking- 36 minutes = 3 miles of running.

As we left this morning there was a soft yellow orange glow over a purple blue silhouette of the mountains. It was breathtaking!! It is really beautiful here :D
33 degrees. I tried running without the long johns under my running tights. BAD IDEA! My legs were FROZEN the entire time. Ok at 3 miles they felt a bit numb and less painful. I swear my knees were creaking like the Tin Man. The top was good. I wore the same tops as yesterday. I brought a scarf today, but really need a gator. I am going to try the ski mask tomorrow :D
The run was fine. It felt great, except the COLD!!!! Maybe my legs like the cold. It's like running and having an ice bath at the same time ;) Kim ran with me the first two miles, but had to turn back for work :( We ran the same out and back as yesterday. I like it. It is the same distance to Salem and back but feels a TON shorter.
The hotel I am staying in has a gym. I am trying to use up most of my weekly miles before I go so I will have less on the treadmill to run. We will be staying in Walnut Creek CA. I am going with my parents and my brothers and sisters. It has been more than 20 years since we've gone on a vacation with just us.

I got out at about 8:40am, 37 degrees. BEAUTIFUL morning!! We went to Wal-Mart last night for milk and I ended up with a treasure! In the men's athletic wear I found some double layer nylon sweat pants with really deep pockets. Yeah! $15 :D I wore them over my running tights and I was nice and toasty! I was a little disappointed that it was not colder, so I could give them a really good test! Oh well! That day shall come all too soon!
The run today was just nice and easy. I stopped to stretch a few times. I was painfully slow, but there was no pain involved :) I am amazed at how much easier 5 miles is now since I spent all of last month biking my brains out! I've got to say, my running is MUCH easier with no biking. I am going to have to contemplate the meaning of these things :) No migraines either! ;) Oh yeah- and those STUPID 8 pounds are miraculously gone this week... hummm? Seriously- suddenly GONE!! Could it be the tofu? Quinoa? I bet it's that stinking tasty salad I ate all day yesterday!!!

13:06- cool down, could talk again :)
Michelle came over this morning to run with me :D OK- she really came over to squeeze three faster miles out of me, and VOILA!!! she did :) I weight 7 lbs less today than when I did the time trial 5k with Michelle a few weeks ago. In 3 more lbs, I want to do the 5k again. Maybe for Halloween :D THANK YOU MICHELLE!!!!
One of my members sent this picture to me. While I know I am not as heavy as the woman in the silhouette, this is my picture of the amazon goddess working her way out! ;) Yes, I really look like muscle girl under all of my lubb! ;D

parents tread mill (YUCK! It needs to be adjusted, it slipped the whole time!)
fisherman's warf. We had very little time to spend in SF so we went straight to the warf to EAT!!! Eating is our families favorite sport! We at at Alioto's. I was a lovely restaurant that overlooked the bay. I had clam chowder in a sour dough bread bowl and a crab Caesar salad. The bread and butter is my favorite!!!
ghirardelli square. Then we were pressed for time to get out of the city before traffic (2-3pm) We had no choice but to speed walk to Ghirardelli square for sundaes! I had a hot fudge sundae that was TO DIE FOR!!!! I had them give me more fudge. YUMMM!!!!
We checked into the hotel and went traipsing around the Walnut Creek area. We went to my parents high school, Clayton Vally. We went to the country club, Aunt Helens and then out to dinner with my Uncle Scott and Aunt Kathy.
I loved the hotel we stayed in. It was an Embassy Suites and it had a huge courtyard with coy ponds and a tropical forest. Good times, fast times!!! :D

some famous trail in walnut creek. headed to the hall of fame.
The trail was called the Iron Horse TRail in Contra Costa County http://www.ebparks.org/parks/trails/iron_horse. This was a paved trail for pedestrians, equestrians and bicycles. THey had huge bridges over main roads and crossing lights at all other roads. THe cars actually stopped for us EVERY TIME! I would move here for the trail alone. Not to mention the perfect humidity and temperature. I posed from my brothers Blackberry and didn't have much time. The Hall of Fame thing was really neat. These athletes were remarkable with not only sports but academically as well. THe majority went to Berkley and Stanford. I was pretty impressed.
We had an adventure with running this morning that added 4 miles to my run. At about two miles into the run DAn, by bro, needed to take a walking break. So Aly and I continued on to mile 3. At about Mile 2.78 the trail crossed the road, but we did not see it, so we went up this hill for a quarter mile and then turned back to meet Dan and continue home. Well, we must have just missed Dan, who continued on the correct trail for another 3 miles. He later told us he had gone so far that there were actually McCain signs. He had crossed over an entire political district :) We went back to the hotel, hoping that he had gone there. No luck! We ate, we showered, still NO DAN!! So, since I didn't need to do my hair and Aly did, I decided to go back to find him. No cars allowed on the trail and since my horse was unavailable I asked the concierge for a bike. He happened to have one. A pink bike with mostly flat tires! I road off in a "non biking" outfit and found him in about 2 miles. Since he was a mess, I gave him the bike and I walked/jogged back so he could shower and I could cool down. I had already showered and there was no time for me to re-shower before the Hall of Fame induction. Anyway, we all made it, good thing I had put on 'guy' deodorant. I got back to the hotel barley in time to throw on my suit, flat iron my hair and grab my make-up to put on in the car as we drove madly to the country club. Anyway, funny story, these older ladies that we had run into on our first run were coming back when I was looking for Dan. I asked them if they had seen my little brother? They looked really concerend and asked how old he was. I laughed and said 38! They laughed and said no. I passed them again after I had given Dan the bike and they said that they had seen him on the bike I was riding and wondered if that was him, I confirmed!
Great time, great adventures!!!

Nice run out to Salem and back. Please note the 12:44 was the monster up hill on the highway. Thank you, thank you very much! This run felt great. I really want to be faster, but I keep reminding myself that slow and relaxed is the way to keep from getting injured. Chill chika!
Oh- the sun was making the most beautiful sky this morning. The mountains were deep purple with orange and red splotches all over them from the changing leaves with this brilliant orange red sky behind them. It was remarkable looking. I guess fall is ok, even if it means that ugly winter is on its way. I will LOVE winter this year! I LOVE winter. I LOVE fall. I love poopie diapers. I love laundry. I love mopping. I LOVE EVERYTHING!!!!
Here is our goofy family picture for the christmas card. YES, I have the pictures back from Costco and the cards too. I am going to get them all done in the next few weeks. Don't worry, I won't mail them until the day after Thanksgiving, but I'll be ready! YES, I am NUTS!!!! The Hawiian shirt that Ford is wearing was my husbands when he was a kid. Ford LOVES it!

I had a smoothie before work for dinner and that just isn't enough fuel for the morning run. The last half mile felt like I had just run a race. I will remember to eat a bowl of cereal before bed if I have a pansy dinner.
On the more exciting note- the weight is moving down. I am 1 pound away from 12#'s lost (since I joined the blog) so it is getting time for another 5 K. 5 miles a day seems to be a good amount of miles for weight loss. Still, a long way to go. But, see below my before pics. They help me to see how far I have come and not get too hard on myself. That picture is about 82 lbs heavier than I am now. The other one is my current "after" photo. They used to be on my work blog until I blew it up.
It was 34 degrees this morning. I really need a gator.
This link is to an Ab workout that KungFuBlonde sent me. I am going to do it 3 times a week and see if I can't get this "lub" of mine less "lubbie"

I went and bought a reflective vest and a gaiter. Of course I did not get out until 9:30 this morning. Too warm in bed, too relaxing with David home, TOO cold outside (32 degrees). I asked David if we could move ;) Once I got myself out there, man it was georgous! The colors up the canyon and all over the mountains are UNREAL! The run felt just fine. I was a bit pooped for the last mile, but the split did not show it too much. Tomorrow is an 8 miler with Kim. I needed less miles Saturday, so we tacked them on to the Friday run.
The weight is still dropping ;) I am trying not to be too excited. BUT I AM!!! hahahahahahahahahahhahah (evil laugh)

Aside from runs where I have become injured, this is the WORST run EVER! I got up to run with Kim at 8 and started to get a migraine as she was walking up to my door. I went back to bed until 10. From 10 to 10:30 I tried to talk my self into and out of a run. At 10:30 I left. I never win the "stay home" battle. I walked a bit, stretched and then ran, well sauntered. My knees were yakking, then my calves twitched, then my hip cried then at mile six, my neuromas caught fire and felt like they were being stabbed by millions of little pairing knives. Finally the last mile, just my knees ached a bit and now I am home. Phew!!!
Have a WONDERFUL day everyone. I am going to shower that run away and pretend it did not happen!
This is my beautiful baby Will. He went missing yesterday and it was HORRIBLE. Of course he was fine and all is well, but the police, sheriff and all my neighbors were combing the neighborhood. They are all so WONDERFUL!!!

HELOOOOoooooooooo! Yes it is a GREAT day! I just have to say that I am finally seeing numbers on the scale that I have not seen for a very long time! Whoo HOOOooooo!
OK- goals for the week. BE GOOD! Run as usual. There will be a 10% increase as the weight is dropping ;D That was the deal. 10% increase for every 10 #'s down. Yoga this week! I have been really bad with the yoga. :( Not this week. I will do 3 classes this week for sure. I already know my treat for the week. Homemade donuts on Friday. It is our family tradition to have homemade donuts to hand out to our friends and family. If you are around, feel free to stop by. I am planning on 3 donuts. One would be perfect, but NOT REALISTIC! ;D
Here are the Jawa's! We are only one Jawa Blaster away from being done. The blasters actually light up. My hubby is a freak about this kind of stuff. Good times!

I LOVE the new shoe tracker! It ROCKS!!!
The first half of today's run was AWESOME!! Mile 3 was HORRIBLE. I had a bit of a tummy ache for the first bit which really chimed in at mile 3. After a VPB, I felt much better :D Anyway- my pace was SOOOOO slow, but who cares! I do kinda, but I'd rather run slow with out injuries! I'm good!
4.2#'s lost since last monday. :D This past weekend was a TOTAL victory! I had NO binges AT ALL!! Yesterday we even made caramel corn and I had one small bowl! YEAH!!!! I feel pretty good about the whole thing! Sunday and Monday are typically my highest weight days. Thursday is always my lowest day of the week. I woke up late, I am not sure what my problem was, but I barely made it our the door in time to be back for the kids to get out the door for school. Yes, my kids get themselves ready for school. I am raising very independent and responsible children. Bahahahahahah!!! :D I am actually raising children that look a little bedraggled and unmatched at school. Sorry about that one, I needed a laugh this morning.
I was pretty pooped the first half of my run, but considering that I was not awake, it wasn't too bad. The second half was fine/great. I practiced leaning forward and relaxing on the down hill. I was really surprised at the difference it made.
Have a GREAT day! Remember that on Saturday, 7am, at Thanksgiving Point we are going to meet for a "Day After Halloween" 10 mile SUPER SLOW Run! We'll ll be hung over anyway from all of the chocolate and donuts!! ;D

Tummy trouble yesterday gave me NO energy for today. That was a bit of a hard run. Hopefully my stomach will settle down today and give me a chance to recuperate. I am SO glad that my legs are not giving me any trouble these days :) Slow is obnoxious, but it seems to work at warding off injury!
Sounds like the 10 mile run for Saturday is on. 7 am in Lehi by Thanksgiving Point. We will be running on the Jordan River Parkway. The super fast speedies can run further, as to end at the same time as the pokies, if they like ;) Thanks to Smooth, we have these great directions. South bound I-15 take exit 282, continue south on US-89 (State St) for 0.5 mi.
North bound I-15 take exit 282 (1200 West), turn left (west), go under freeway overpass and south onto US-89 (State St) for 0.5 mi.
Turn right at 1500 N(Chevron Gas Station).
Travel west for 2.0 miles to Jordan River.
JRP access is just before the bridge. A small unpaved parking area is on the south side (pull of to the left) of the road. We can meet there. Kelli said she is brining muffins and I will bring hot chocolate.

When my 7 year old jumped on my bed this morning and my gut SCREAMED, I decided to take to the day off. I felt much better yesterday afternoon than I had on previous days. I am hoping one running-jiggle-free day will give it the rest it needs to be OK for tomorrows run :)
Don't forget the run tomorrow. Everyone is invited. Please check Wednesdays entry for information. Have a very Happy Halloween!

I have been very frustrated by the slowness of my paces. They seem to be getting slower and slower. I had a bit of a reality check with myself this evening. My #1 focus right now is building my mileage and losing weight. Once my mileage is comfortably between 40-50 miles a week and I have lost about 20 more lbs, then I will get focused on speed. For now, I am going to add a 3 mile mini tempo run a week in the middle of a 5 mile run. Basically for 3 miles I will hold an 11 min pace. I know I can do this, because I have done it before. I am really going to focus on the mileage increases and how great that is. Oh yeah, and the weight loss too ;) I just want to get to 40-50 miles a week without injury, which means slow and steady :) Patience is not one of my finer attributes!
Have a GREAT week everyone!!! I sure can't express how much your support means to me :D

Oh what a beautiful morning! I love that it is not pitch black at 6:20 AM! Halleluiah! There was a bit of snow on top of our little burnt up mountain this morning. The coolest part was when I turned around and saw Timp. It was covered with snow and brilliant with the sun just lighting the back edges and little lines of pink clouds hovering on the summit. Today is going to be a GREAT day ;) It was 49 degrees. One long sleeve shirt, nylon pants, ear muff, gaiter and gloves were perfect. My goal was to have negative splits. I am feeling much better so far this week! Hope it lasts!!!

First snow run of the year! Yeah!!! How do you run when the sides of the roads are piled with slow and the roads are ice? I do want to run outside all winter, but I don't want to die! :( Any pointers? KimR came with today. I love Kim. Yes, I say that everytime I run with her, but it is true! I think my garmin is sick. Very nice run today. I went really slow and enjoyed the 24 degree weather. OK that "enjoy" part is a LIE, but it sure was beautiful outside! The sun was out and the snow on the mountain was lovely! It feels like dressing for battle to go out. It takes me a half hour to get all clothed! Tights, check, nylon pants, check, long sleeve shirt, check, another long sleeve shirt, check, socks, check, shoes, check, toilet paper, check, ear muffs, check, gaiter, check, rubber band for pony tail, check, garmen, check, gloves, check, sweatshirt, check, glasses, check! Oh yeah- go to the bathroom again because it took so long to get ready that I need to go again! Oh the joy! I will really enjoy the tank top and shorts next summer!!!

A big fat goose egg for today :( I am guessing I had a bit of food poisoning last night. No one here is sick but me and we've all eaten the same stuff. Let's just say that I feel 89% better this morning and weigh 6 lbs less this morning that I did yesterday morning. I NEVER throw up! Anyway, I hope ya'll are having a GREAT day! We may go for 10 miles tomorrow if all goes well today :D
Do you think I could be allergic to quinoa? That is the only thing I ate before I got sick. hummmm.

There was nothing in the tanks this morning. I couldn't get much water down yesterday :( I was planning on 10 and then just hoping for 5 and ended up being grateful for 3. :D I should be GREAT by Monday.
I am going to go can apple sauce and some salsa today. My neighbor dropped of 6 boxes of apples and I am really excited! My boys LOVE apple sauce and I LOVE free! My friend taught me a super fast and easy way to make it. You only have to wash and quarter the apples, no peeling or coreing. Then you cook them, steam them really in a big pot (about 20 minuites). Then you run them through a Victoria Strainer and VOILA- the waste comes out one side and the apple sauce comes out the other! No sugar and just a 20 minuite water bath and done!!!
FUN FUN FUN!!!!! Have a great weekend!
I think that I am going to do the CIM Folsom to Sacramento next December. Anyone up for it? It starts at 365 ft above sea level and ends at 65 feet above sea level. December in Sacramento is beautiful :D This is as close to a down hill sea level marathon that can be found :) |

Can you say FORTY QUARTS of homemade applesauce?
I am feeling much better :D My weight is holding steady, which is very normal for me. I lose over about a week and then hold for 2-3, then lose again. I have been holding for a few weeks, so hopefully I'll be ready to start dropping again soon.
This week, I am going to play my mileage by ear. I will plan for 5 a day with 10-12 for saturday. We will see how it goes. Lately all plans have been shot down, so flexibility is key!

Maybe the training is working? ;) I broke that STUPID 1 hour mark for my five miles! Whoo Hoo!!! Anyway- I slept in and ran after school. | | Crazy weird run today :0 Kim and I ran up Payson Canyon to the 2.5 mile mark, then ran down until David and my brother, Dan, and kids, picked me up and we went up to the Gratto. We hiked up there, it's a very pretty and EASY hike for kids. Then we hiked down. I ran up the canyon a bit more and then back to the car and then we drove back down. They dumped me off about a mile and a half from home and I ran it in. Like I said, crazy weird ;) I do have a head cold at the moment. It hit all of a sudden at 4 o'clock yesterday afternoon. I am really hoping that it doen't get any worse. I am going to make sure to get plenty of fluids, rest and oranges ;) I don't feel bad, except a mild headache from the congestion. I am somewhat irritated by the whole thing, but I am not going to stress over it at all :D Life is good and I ran 5.5 miles today :)

THANK YOU MICHELLE!!!! The most amazing Michelle came and helped me through my 4 mile tempo run today. The goal was to be in the 10 to 10:30 range for 4 miles. Due to some funky laps, the splits don't show it exactly, but MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!!! :) We ran my normal route, an out and back, with a mile loop around my block at the end for a cool down. The first mile was also a warm up, with a stretch at .33. It was a hard run, I wanted to stop a few times but I didn't want to die. :D By the way, Michelle, your hair is DARLING!!! I love the color and the length! WOW!!! Hot speedy Mama!!! I still have the STUPID head cold, but no fever or cough :) Hopefully I will get over it quickly. "I'm feeling better! I think I'll go for a walk!" -Monty Python's The Holy Grail (the "dead" guy)
I actually think I might be feeling better this morning. I can't sleep when I do not run, so that is a bit obnoxious, but I have been awake since about 4:30 and feel pretty good, by comparison. The doc said 3-5 days before I am better, and I didn't start the antiboitics until Wednesday afternoon. So yesterday afternoon was 3 days. I guess I get impatient will feeling sick. I think I am going to try to go back to sleep for a few hours. Church isn't until 11, so I have a small window of opportunity. Have a GREAT day!!!

| | I woke up at 6 am and just could not help but go for a run. I could not stand it ONE MORE DAY!!! I had planned to wait until Thursday, but NO way! I did my cute little 2.5 mile route that I started to run on. It is so CUTE!!! I didn't take my garmen so I just timed it on my watch. Yesterday was HORRIBLE. My head was unbelievably painful. I even called to doctor back to see what I should do. He never called back, of course, so I just went to bed. I have been using the course tool for my runs to check my garmen accuracy. The garmen is pretty right on the money. The map for Payson is WAY old, but the mileage seems to be pretty accurate. Have a great day everyboby. I am going to run 3.5 tomrrow and then I hope to be back to my 5 a day. We shall see! :)

Kim and I ran under a small viaduct under I-15. We were a bit unsure and proceeded with hesitation. Just as we were about all the way through, I heard a VERY loud sound behind us, a truck. I SCREAMED, scared the crap out of Kim and we both BOLTED out of the tunnel running like sissy girls. We were laughing SO hard once we got out of the tunnel I thought we might fall over. It was a cute elderly couple who were laughing like crazy as they passed us. I am sure we made their day!

| | I love the overcast days :D Today the choir I sing with is singing in two different churches today. I love to sing and I love to sing for others. Today should be a fun day. I am going to give away all of the hand dipped chocolates we made last weekend today. ;D I've got to get rid of them. Tonight is also the fist night of the Advent. Davids family calls it Lichtlein. The Advent is a European tradition where the family gathers for songs and treats the four Sundays preceding Christmas. We have a special candle holder from Germany that we light. One candle the 4th Sunday away, 2 the 3rd Sunday away, 3 candles the 2nd Sunday away and 4 lit candles means the Christ Child will be coming that week. We drink Pero and eat Stollen (a very special German Christmas bread). The bread alone takes several days to make. We love to make it but only give it to friends of ours who REALLY like it. 53:40, ave 13:25, best 10:12, Laps-13:25,13:37, 13:17, 12:02 I am still pretty pooped. My left calf is bugging a bit. I am guessing that the antibiotic they put me on has zapped me a bit. It binds with vitamins and minerals, so I am guessing I am a bit low in that area and it will take some time to rebuid my stores. I am getting my hair done to day and I am thinking I may just go dark for fun. I have never done that and I am feeling a little adventuresome! What are the chances that the weather will stay this "runner friendly?" I feel like I am running on borrowed time :D

I have been planning on doing a tempo run once a week and I ACTUALLY did it today! (Being sick really put a wrench in the works!) I have never done a tempo run alone. I had to conjure the Master Michelle's Running Spirit to get it done.... AND I DID!!! :) Oh- I forgot to mention how it felt. The warm up was TERRIBLE!!! I was talking myself out of the tempo the WHOLE .75 mi. Then I just went for it. The first mile was OK. I felt OK and like I could do it. Mile 1 was net up hill, with rolling hils. Mile two was Ok but would have liked to slow down. MIle two was net down hill, but rolling hills. Those little uphill portions were really mentally tough. I had to keep telling myself that it was alright and that I could do it. I wasn't overly tired, but still would have liked to stop. Mile three was net down hill with a .17 very down hill (this was in my warm up- yuck). This would be where the 7:17mm came from. I definately wanted to stop for most of mile three, but I kept hearing Michelle's words in my head and they kept me going. I was very surprised how fast my warm down was because it felt SO SLOW!!! Over all I feel really good about the run. I ate a hard boiled egg about 45 minutes before the run and it caused me no problems. I am wanting to keep my tempo runs at the same pace, but increasing the distance. In the future they will probably be on a 5 or 6 mile day. I think the mental strengh they give me is greater than any physical benifit they may have. My left calf was really whiny during the warm up and pulsed/twinged about 4-5 times during the run.

I ranmy 4 mole route, came home had a potty stop and some gatorade and then Kim met me and we ran our five mile route. There was about a 3-4 minute stop at home. Nicklaus came to our home last night. The kids put their shoes out by the front door before bed last night. While they slept, St. Nicklaus came and left chocolate coins, candy canes and a new version of the Night Before Christmas. He left the boys little nutcrackers and the girls got Christmas knee highs. I love German holiday traditions!

Well, you lay there for a while until it is perfectly clear that there will be no more sleeping. Then you think, "Hey, I know I have a run planned with Kim at 8am, but heck- I think I'll just do it now." So you lay there for 15 more minutes, until you finally are committed to the idea and are off and running by 5:30am. Ok- the moon was out and it was BEAUTIFUL this morning. The moon actually set over West Mountain on my way home, but the run up the canyon was WONDERFUL. The run felt GREAT, I am sure by comparison of yesterdays run ;) So now I have an extra few hours today, so I think I will scrub the downstairs bathroom floor. It is DISCUSTING!!! Fun times for me!!! (http://kimrobison.fastrunningblog.com) For Kim's 39th birthday we ran ten miles and then went to One Man Band for breakfast! We decided that it was the PERFECT way to celebrate a birthday! The run was a bit tiring toward the end, but felt pretty good throughout. I am really loving having my house be at the middle portion of the long runs. I can run in, have a potty break and get my drinks for the second half, if needed. It really helps to make the run seem less strenuous with having 2 shorter routes make up my longer run! I am going to get back to Dr. Brady to work on my neuromas starting next week. I would love for them to not be so beastly for Painters. I am going to see him every week for a while to make sure I don't get injured while I am bumping my mileage. I am going to have him work my calves and hips too.

1:06, ave 13:14, best 10:09, Laps-13:47, 13:28, 13:30, 12:12, 12:52 Heidi ho! I wanted a nice slow run this morning and darn it if I didn't come through! My legs are a bit pooped from the 35 miles this week. YES, this is my highest mile week EVER!! I am thinking I will just stick with 5 miles a day until Painters with a 1 mile increase on the long run each week. I don't want to burn out or worse, get injured, so no mileage increases until after Painters. Well, baby increases like next week I will run 36 then 37 then 38, etc. So just little increases! The moon ran with me this morning! He was all cute and shy behind the thin layer of clouds! It was 48 degrees! Holy cow!! I almost missed my run. I kept dreaming that I was out running only to find that I was NOT running! I was late for work :( I even had to come home early from work. I have the most killer headache. It is different than my migraines. I think it is the sinus infection returning. I stopped and bought some decongestants on the way home and I am hoping that will take care of it! I have some serious parties to get ready for. Hopefully my brain will give up and QUIT hurting me. I have never left work sick before. This headach is diffrent that my migraines. The migranes are a solid pain through my brain, constant. I can ignore them. This one is like a little pairing knife stabbing me between my eyes. It is pulsing too. It will lay off and then WHAMI!!! Consentrating is really hard!

| | Major breakthrough! I have learned something! I have a running plan all mapped out on excel for the next 18 months. Live the PLAN or DIE!!! Guess what- I have finally learned to listen to my body and TO HECK with the plan! I am SHOCKED! For example, I had my mileage building up for the next month, forever really, and I am not going to do it. I mentioned yesterday on my blog my plan. I am going to stick with my cute little 5 miles a day and just increase my long run each week by one mile. This will give my body plenty of time to adjust to my little cute tempo runs and my sneaky approach to a longer "long" run. I am also going to go into Dr. Brady each week up until Painters. I really want to get these neuromas under control, or at least down to a 2 on the pain scale! ;) I am also going to have him work on my hip and calves. My calves have been getting tight again. I really WANT to run Painters and I DON'T want to get injured again. | |

My calves are tight and my righ foot is bugging me! The ice was not too bad up Main Street. All in all it was not as scary as I thought it might be. I am a brave running warrior!!!

2.46 in the snow! That was an experience! I think that when the roads are covered with snow AND it is snowing, I may just stick to the treadmill. The snowflakes were stabbing me in my eyeballs! It was REALLY hard to run up hill in the snow. My calves were not enjoying it much. I am going to wrestle the treadmill out of the laundry room and get the rest of my run done.
I got the treadmill out of the laundry room. It took about a half hour! I ran three more miles. The treadmill wasn't as bad as I remember! Yipee! I am going to keep a paper on the tredmill to record my splits.
|
| |
| | Alright- I do not like the treadmill. I should have gone out! 5 miles was TOO long and TOO hot and just plain YUCK! So the moral of the story is to run outside no matter what and then just call it quits if it is not working and run on the treadmill. I've got the treadmill if needed, and that is a very good thing! I am icing my knee. Last night it started to hurt, feel a bit weak actually. It was fine on the treadmill this morning, but as soon as I got off it was there again. The pain/strange feeling is hard to pinpoint. I am icing the upper outside and back of the knee right now. I am wondering if my slippy slidy running yesterday maybe did something...or... the treadmill is evil and causes strange injuries. I see Dr Brady in the morning and will ask him. Have a GREAT day!!!
|
| |
| |
OK- it was just as I suspected- the treadmill is evil! Apparently on the treadmill, you run differently and I am a loser extreme case. My calves LOVE the treadmill and my hamstrings hate it. Dr Brady wants me to run with an incline to get my calves working more and give a break to my hams. The knee problem is from my hams. I guess that jumping on a treadmill after No treadmill work can be like having a non runner go and run 5 miles. The way I run on the treadmill is very different from my outdoor running. he wants me to ease into the treadmill as not to injure my hams. He worked my right foot today. Hopefully this neuromas will give up soon! He also gave me a new fangled strap thing to correct my something or other in my stride. I apparently externally rotate my right foot. Anyway, I'll figure this all out with the amazing expertise of Dr. Brady! I am going to get two miles on the treadmill today and hopefully some outside. We'll just have to see. I'll modify my log if necessary.
*** I did 5 miles on the treadmill with lots of stretching amid running. I ran 2.5 then fixed dinner and then ran the rest. I stretched 6 times total, two long bouts of stretching after each 2.5 miles. The hams feel great and the calves are their usual whiny selves. Oh, I forgot to mention Dr Brady wrapped my right foot to form an arch support while we wait for the orthotics to come back. He also put a chinese herbal patch on my neuroma and did an ultrasound and laser treatment on it too.

I did not go my full five miles because as I was heading into the last 1/4 mile before I turn around and it was a steep downhill with a strong tailwind. There was NO way I was going to run back up a steep hill on icey roads with a stiff headwind! I am a wimp! I had to run a bit creativly to get in close to 5 miles. Everything felt great, except that I am really going to have to work on loving the winter runs. They make me sad and irritated. SPRING NOW!!! I am moving!

I tried to talk myself into this run all morning. I am very disheartened by the weather and am having a hard time staying focused on my goals. I keep going to the "just run 5 miles a day through the winter and that is good enough." I really want Painters to go well, but I am a little afraid. Enough of that! The first three miles of today's run were pretty blah. As you can see by my mile four split, my guardian angels swooped in to give me the little nudge I needed to keep going to the half way mark. I ended up running into a runner at the corner by Peteetneet and asked him how the roads were. He said that my street was pretty good all the way to Salem, so I went for it. I have ridden my bike on it before, but never run it. It was nice. Once I hit a dead end in Salem, I went up a block and was on the Salem Canal Road, which was clear and wonderful. There were even signs posted to watch for joggers. Pretty soon I was to the Woodland Hills Road and needed another mile so I headed up to Woodland Hills. No sooner had I committed to this than I saw the BIG hill ahead and decided to veer to the right of 10,000 South for the rest of my mile. At the 5.5 mark I stopped to stretch near some scrub oak and startled a flock of really big somethings. They flew off behind the bush so I couldn't get a good look at them. They seemed to be the size of wild turkeys, but they also flew, so really big pheasants? As a note of interest, my lower back started to twinge about mile 4.5 and is pretty upset with me. I have never had that before and I am hoping it is some fluke! I hope y'all got out and had a nice run today. It was really hard to do this one alone and I am going to be ever so glad I did it! I just read this article from runners world about illness and running. I really liked what it had to say. http://www.runnersworld.com/article/0,7120,s6-241-286--9082-0,00.html

Yesterday afternoon we received word that our nephew, Ian, passed away due to complications of his premature birth. He was 3 days old. Our hearts are broken, and broken again seeing the pain of Barbara and Russell, his parents. Barbara is David's sister and has been one of my best friends since we were 12. We met at girls camp. Barbara and I were also roommates in college. We knew yesterday morning that he was no longer stable and complications were setting in quickly. I am ever so grateful to know that Ian will be with Barbara and Russell again- and the rest of us too. Barbara and Russell have 4 older children.
On a lighter note, our family is singing Silent Night in german today in church. The boys are wearing their Lederhosen with their pocket knives ;)
| |
| | Broken down car in BArstow. Was planning on using my Brother-in-laws running shoes for a run this AM, but nothing is working out as planned. We are so glad to be able to see BArbara and Russell, even if just for a 1/2 day. |
| |
I am home from Barbara's and she is doing well. The services were changed to tomorrow morning so David and I could not stay. We could not chance drving in the storm tomorrow evening and missing Christmas with our children. It was really great to see everyone and spend time with them.
As for running, I forgot my running shoes and due to a series of unfortunate events (broken down car) I have not run. :( I am officially addicted to running. :) I body feels horrible and is itching to run in the am. For now I am off to bed!

| | 1:09:00- I did the first 2 miles on the treadmill in 28 minutes. The next three were outside. The laps were 41:49 total time 14:47, 13:25, 12:56. I really don't like the treadmill, but I am glad I have it. :D Outside was COLD but the roads were not too bad at all. They were mostly clear. IT was nice outside :) Merry Christmas!!!

4 miles outside on snow packed icy roads at 14 min miles and 1 mile inside on the treadmill 11:30 pace.
I am guessing that running on slippery snowy roads counts for more miles ;) My calves were killing me. My ankles and shins too. The fast mile felt great! I think Ihave my nre winter plan for bad road days. Do what I can outside and then bring in in for a bit speedier pace.

Migrane set in and I hunkerd down in my bed for most of the day. I finally got out around 3:30. I felt like running more, but I have learned from the past that long runs on migraine days are a really BAD idea. The roads were fantastic. only about .75 miles of my run were snow covered. The rest were prefectly clear and dry. I ran to Salem on the highway. The shoulder is wide and clear of snow and ice. The first mile was overall downhill, but my calves and left knee were acting up. It was the inside of the felt knee in front. It went away about 1.5 miles in. The pain was about a 4 to 4.5. I am wearing new shoes and who knows if that could have anything to do with it. The middle three miles were very nice. Mile 5 has a beauty of a hill in it. I just kept saying, "keep moving" and I was fine. I think I will stick to this route on non-snowing days. It was really nice. Have a great day! I am going to get into the shower and get ready for my hot date!

| | I am guessing that a smart runner might plan her long runs around the weather forecast these days. So, since I am striving to be a "smart" runner, I am going to shoot for Wednesday, as it appears to be the last nice day before a new year storm. I am of course going to practice my flexibility and be willing to move it as needed. Being able to run outside is going to require new mental and physical skills for me. I need this outside time. I need a twelve or 13 mile run this week to be ready for Painters. Mentally, I need a 13 just to really know that I can do it. I wanted my longest run to be on the 3rd so I can have an easy week the next week (5- 5 milers and 1- 7 miler) The week of the race I am going to do a 5,4,4,3, off, RACE DAY!! I am getting excited and worried and more excited all the time! | |

I am not sure if it was that this 3 mile stretch is totally flat or I am just lame or BOTH? Aside from what I had envisioned, the run turned out great and if it had been a regular run, I'd be thrilled. Especially since the first .66 of mile five is a BEAST of an up hill! LONG and steady up hill. Have a great day! Oh wait, I have to tell you about the goose hearding miniture goats. There is this little farm on my route with a gaggle of geese, they look like canadian to me, peacocks, peahens and miniature goats. Today the peacock was out by the road :) Yesterday the little goats were hearding the geese all over the place. From a distance I thought they were Australian Heelers, but as I got closer I could see that the geese were being rounded up by all of these darling little goats.

Alrighty-
I am very pleased with today's run. The first 1/2 mile was doing my
visiting teaching. I dropped Chex Mix off to the ladies and an angel
to the teacher last Sunday. I am feeling pretty ingenious and a bit
lecherous doing run by's! :D Anyway- I decided that I should check out
my old usual runs to see if they could take part in my 13 miler
tomorrow. They are OK. One part is pretty bad, but it will be OK. I
am going to do 2 of my 5 mile routes with PB and drink breaks at my
house then I will throw in a little 3 mile loop to top it off. I am
kind of excited about the whole thing!
Now about today's actual
running. It was slow and boring until I remember something I had read
on one of your blogs about strides. So for my last mile, I threw in 5,
100 step strides. I learned a few things, #1 I can't count to 100
while I run. I can count to 50 so I did that 2x's to get 100. #2, I
count with my eyes closed. This is not great when you are dodging
snow, ice and a snow plow! #3 I got faster with each stride. That was
exciting and surprising all at the same time. My first stride was just
over 10:00 min mile and the last was 8:10. They naturally and gradually
decreased on their own. I went all out on the last stride at got the
8:10. #4 They were really fun and I liked them. I am going to do them
again!!!
HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! Party like crazy and have a great run
in the morning. I am really excited about tomorrow's run. If anyone is
bored and wants to come, I'd LOVE the company!! |
