Today's run was harder than last weeks.  Kim came today :)  It was sad not to be able to chat, but it really kicked our bums and WE ROCK!!!  My legs started to get pooped at the end.  They did not go completely race dead, but they were on their way.  I wanted to stop the WHOLE time, but it wasn't totally overwhelming feeling of "I must stop or I'll DIE" feeling.  The temp was 24 degrees and I ended up taking off my sweatshirt.  I could not run with the gater over my mouth.  It felt too suffocating.

Have a GREAT day!!!  XOXOXOXOX!!!

I'm AWESOME!!! ;)

Great job, Marion! You deserve the positive talk and thinking. That is a great run! You can definitely kick my butt. (Ah - to be young again).

Tempo runs are best done without a gator. I think you breathe too hard to be able to use one on the speed training.

Enjoy your day.

From Lelsie on Wed, Dec 10, 2008 at 10:49:49

HOLLY COW GIRL!!! Was the boogie man on your back???? That was SO FAST!!! Okay, you kicked our butts! You did SO great!!!!! You win! You get the chicken dinner!!!! You are going to be happy and bouncing off the wall all day long!!!!! Yeah Marion!!!

From Smooth on Wed, Dec 10, 2008 at 13:47:13

Marion!!! You kicked some major booties today. AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME!!!! Oh, you don't need sweat shirt and gator with the "hot" speed you're going. May be Santa Claus will bring you some winter tech running clothes, you cute thing. :)

From marion on Wed, Dec 10, 2008 at 13:56:18

I need you to PM my hubby and tell him what to get me. I don't even know what to get me! I am hoping to make it though this winter and then get some good stuff on sale in the spring!

Thanks everybody. It feel great to have done that!

SUPER RUN!!!!!!!

From Smooth on Wed, Dec 10, 2008 at 14:25:41

OK, I'll get on it. For starter, do you have any long sleeve wick shirt? That's your base layer. Next a running jacket or a 3/4 zip running shirt. The zippers allow for adjustment to your core temp, zip down when you get warmer. Some people like running vest instead of jacket. My arms and hands are always cold so I prefer jacket. On snowy or windy days, you may want a beannie or headband to cover your ears. That's it. For the legs, I really like my CW-X tights. They are pricey. I just got a pair from Wasatch Running Center for $40 (50%) off. Instead of waiting till Spring sale. You may want to check at Ross. My friends have found current season good running clothes at discount prices. Target has good running clothes too. Just be sure to check the labels so you know you're getting "running" clothes, not work-out or training clothes. Running clothes usually are light weight, with cool-max or wicking synthetic fabrics.

Here's what I've learned, your body temp goes up 10 degrees when running. So, when you head out the door, if you're warm, then you're over-dressed. When I ran in the teens last winter, all I wore was an Underarmour Sub-zero mock turtleneck and a light jacket which blocks the wind. Oh, and vaseline for wind-chapped lips.

Marion, you're a real runner, time to ditch the sweatshirt. You worked so hard, you deserve something nice to show off your cute bod.

From Kelli on Wed, Dec 10, 2008 at 14:45:20

Tell your hubby to go to TARGET!!!! Almost every stitch of winter clothing I bought dame from Target and it has all worked out GREAT! They have champion base layers (I love the running tights, they are fuzzy on the inside), and then they have fleece outer layers. Right now the long sleeved 3/4 zip fleece jackets are 10 bucks!!! I just bought a bright yellow one so cars can hopefully see me!!!

I am all about CHEAP, I hate how much money Scott and I end up spending on running (races, hotels, shoes, gear, etc---it gets very pricey). I absolutely have loved everything I have gotten at TARGET----great quality, lower price!!!!

From Kelli on Wed, Dec 10, 2008 at 14:46:56

Oh, and you can get the fleece thingy to cover your ears and some fleece gloves at Wal Mart, in matching colors, for like $3 a set! BARGAIN!!! They have great Men's clothes at Wal Mart for running, but not for women. If they have small enough sizes for your tiny body, I would check out their long sleeve shirts and jackets!

From marion on Wed, Dec 10, 2008 at 14:49:34

Thanks guys! I am going SHOPPING!! David wont mind if I buy my own christmas presents! I am SO excited!!! I have to go to runners corner for new shoes, so I will have them suit me up!

#1 toasty tights

#2 magic running shirt

#3 runner jacket

#4 ear muffs- have them

#5 cheap gloves- have them

What about a windbreaker- water proof thing??? The wet worries me!

From marion on Wed, Dec 10, 2008 at 14:55:30

I buy the men's size stuff. The leggs are never long enough in the girl stuff. Also in the men's I can be a medium instead of XL in the women's. It's all about the size on the tag ;) Oh yeah- and how cheep things are!

I think I will splurge at the running store for my first time. After that I will know better what to look for on my own. I want everything to be RED!! It needs to match the spiderman mask I am getting for Christmas!!!

From Kelli on Wed, Dec 10, 2008 at 15:02:33

Well, at least go to Target for the fleece!!! You can not beat 10 bucks, and they are warm and they have RED!

Have fun shopping!

From Metcalf Running on Wed, Dec 10, 2008 at 15:11:13

From marion on Wed, Dec 10, 2008 at 15:31:56

From jona on Wed, Dec 10, 2008 at 15:49:21

Add another vote for Target. LOVE the clothes I have gotten from Target!

From marion on Wed, Dec 10, 2008 at 16:01:44

I already wear a fleece jacket when I run. Is there a special kind? or will normal fleece work?

The running shirt I wear is non wicking, I think. It is made of polyester and is quite warm.

From Kelli on Wed, Dec 10, 2008 at 18:36:10

Fleece is fleece---it is just cheap at Target right now. But if you have some, you are good to go. Unless you needed to buy a red one to make the outfit!

From marion on Wed, Dec 10, 2008 at 18:38:47

so true! I NEED a red one ;) I wonder if I can find a spiderman relective emblem for the back?

From Smooth on Wed, Dec 10, 2008 at 18:41:25

Marion -- My favorite running fleece jacket is a thermafit by Nike. I found it at Ross for $8. I wear it everyday and to races too. It is very light weight, stretchy, has a hood and breathes well. In fact, so well that I'd find a film of frost built up on the back and shoulders after cold morning runs. I think it's from the heat and moister evaporating off. So, if your fleece jacket does the job in keeping you warm without trapping excess heat and moisture, then it's great.

Some fancy schmancy running jackets have neat wind proof features and cool-max panels under the armpits and back.

Compare the polyester or fabric of the running shirts at Target/running stores to your running shirt. Again, remember the shirt doesn't need to keep you warm. The heat you generate from running will. But if you're wet or the shirt is wet, you will be cold once you stop running. The reason for the wicking.

Have fun shopping.
