Good news first :D I couldn't sleep all night because I was so excited to get up and run this morning. I have had NO pain since last monday. I ran for about 2 miles and it was beautiful!!! This huge flock of geese flew over head, the breeze was slight and the temperature was perfect! My pace was very slow and VERY comfortable, abt 11:30. About .8 M in my calf gave a little "hi- how are you" but no real pain, so I kept going. At mile 2 I stopped to go potty and then it let out a "hey you- MORON- what in the crap are you doing?" I limped home :( I have been icing all morning and I am probably going to go to the doc (if I can get in).

Sad is not the right word- confusion and disbelief are more accurate. I am at a loss. I am going to stay totally off of it for the next three days. I am going to sit on the couch with my leg elevated and ice for 20 min of every hour. There is no more pain right now at all and no limp. I haven't tried the stairs yet. I will know in a minute, when I go to park my bum on the sofa in front of the tv for the next three days. I am going to baby my leg like nothing ever seen before.

Any clue? Anyone?

Thanks for noticin'... Eeyore out!

That makes me so sad for you!!!!!!! When your heart and soul wants to run and your stinkin' calf rebels, it just isn't fair, I have no clue, I wish I had an answer for you. I guess the doc is the way to go, maybe a sports doc, that will be more sensitive to your running plans. DANG IT ALL TO HECK!!! Please keep us posted and hopefully a blogger may have some tips for you!!!!!

Marion, I think it's a good idea to get to the doctor soon and, preferably, a doctor who RUNS. The sooner you go, the sooner you'll know what's wrong and can do something about it.

That being said, I am really sorry. It is really tough being injured. Keep blogging, though. It will keep you motivated and encouraged!

Thanks ladies for your encouragement! It helps a ton!

Shauna- Do you know any good Doc's in the Provo area?

From Shauna on Mon, Jul 28, 2008 at 16:17:11

Marion, no, I don't know of doctors up there. I've never even been to Provo! I would post a question on the discussion forum. Then everyone will see your question, and someone will probably be able to give you an answer. Thanks for your comment-yes, it is HOT here. I'm really looking forward to October!!

Thanks Shauna- I went to your blog and was reminded that you are an AZ girl :) Sorry for the silly question! I will post it. Thanks! I may call Josse.

Is there a knot where your calf hurts? Is it a general area or pinpoint pain? Close to the bone? My hubby gets calf problems a lot, and usually I get to try to massage them and get them back in working order. I hope you find someone good who'll know how to help you. Have you met Josse? Do you live close enough to go see her?

No knots :( or is that a :D Josse worked on it last week- or was it the week before? It is in the muscle. If you picture a 1 by 2 running from your calf to your heel, the pain is 1/2 way up/down and it is on the sides of the 1x2. I can pinch it and it hurts. The pain is about from mid point and 2.5 inches up. It also hurts if I push deep and directly in the center. It is deeper vs. surface. How's that for a description :D I have been massaging & scraping it. The somewhat strange thing (or maybe not) is that it doesnt really hurt to run on it, I just cannot walk if I stop- or start running again for that matter.

I did go longer today that last week. I only made it about a half of a mile last mon and 2 miles today. My chiropractor is fishing in Alaska, so I may go see MichelleL's tomorrow if I can get in.

When I came back from my calf injury last year I did the same thing. We tend to get alittle over excited coming back. What I would recommend is biking before you run. This tires your legs out and makes it seem like you have ran farther than you have. I would do your regular bike thing and then just run a mile. Then when it is feeling good lessen the amount of biking and add more running. Hope this is only a minor set back.

From marion on Wed, Jul 30, 2008 at 10:40:54

Hey JOsse- so for my plan back. Next week I had planned to walk- but you are saying, bike for next week- then the following week, bike and run one mile, daily. then over the next several weeks increase running slowly while decreasing biking?

From josse on Wed, Jul 30, 2008 at 11:53:04

Yes of course it is all by feel. If you would have only ran the mile and biked you probably woundn't have had the reacurrance. So build back slowly and go by feel. If you feel any disconfort than stop running and walk.

Thanks Josee- I had that realization later on monday :( Live and learn. THANK YOU SO MUCH for all of your help!!! I guess the stubborness that keeps us running also keeps us injured at times ;)
