Yesterday afternoon we received word that our nephew, Ian, passed away due to complications of his premature birth.  He was 3 days old.  Our hearts are broken, and broken again seeing the pain of Barbara and Russell, his parents.  Barbara is David's sister and has been one of my best friends since we were 12.  We met at girls camp.  Barbara and I were also roommates in college.  We knew yesterday morning that he was no longer stable and complications were setting in quickly.

I am ever so grateful to know that Ian will be with Barbara and Russell again- and the rest of us too.  Barbara and Russell have 4 older children.

On a lighter note, our family is singing Silent Night in german today in church.  The boys are wearing their Lederhosen with their pocket knives ;)

Marion, I am heartbroken for you and your family, and especially for Barbara. What a sweet spirit God sent for just a short momment. I know that this is extremely difficult. I will keep you and your family in my prayers.

Also, I wanted to tell you your boys are absolutely adorable.

I am so sorry to hear about baby Ian, my love and prayers and with you and your family.

The boys are adorable, I wish I could be in your church meeting and hear them. You are blessed with a beautiful family!

Okay, your boys are flippin' cute!!! Too bad you can not tape that and post it for all of us to see!

I am so very sorry for your sister-in-law and her family. I can not even imagine the pain of losing a baby. We will keep her family and yours in our thoughts and prayers.

That baby looks so little - how many weeks was he? Just a little angel.

From tarzan on Mon, Dec 22, 2008 at 09:59:08

Oh, so sorry to hear about your little nephew. How are the parents holding up? Do they have any other children to help comfort them at this time?

(Your boys are darling)

From tarzan on Mon, Dec 22, 2008 at 19:56:18

Were they able to hold him before he passed away? I remember my mom telling me how devestating it was to lose my oldest brother.

From Teena on Mon, Dec 22, 2008 at 21:43:28

What a hard time to go through such a loss. I am so sorry.

As for your little boys ... could they be any cuter?? Man Alive Marion ... that picture is FANTASTIC!!!

From marion on Mon, Dec 22, 2008 at 23:41:30

Maurine- The nicu called them early saturday morning and told them that they needed to get there asap. They held him for a long time before he passed away and then Barb held him for a long time after he has passed. The nicu was great and really helped them.

So sorry to hear of your loss. You and your family are in my prayers.

Your boys look like little models. Absolutely adorable.

From Becca on Tue, Dec 23, 2008 at 08:43:17

Marion, I'm really sorry to hear about your family's loss. I can only imagine how hard this must be for all of you, especially for your sister-in-law. ((hugs))

I love the picture of your little guys! I think not everyone could pull off the Lederhosen look, but they sure do it well! Also, is that your tree? I like it!

From Marion on Wed, Dec 24, 2008 at 18:46:04

Thanks Becca & Jodi- the German runs strong in our veins ;) Yes- that is our tree. The hodgepodge tree is in the family room and my red and white one is in the living room. Thanks for your well wishes, it's really hard. Barbara and Russell are doing really well.

Monday night David and I joined them for their family prayers. Their oldest son Cameron (10) said the prayer. The first thing he said was how grateful and happy they were to have Ian for their brother. There was no whining, just expressions of gratitude for a sweet angel brother who is theirs to love forever.

At the viewing yesterday the kids and cousins wanted to hold him so they let everyone of them hold him and love him.

My heart goes out to you and your family, Marion. Thank you for sharing this with us.

Loved the kids pic!

From JulieC on Thu, Dec 25, 2008 at 23:02:27

Hi Marion. Sorry for your loss. You may have learned from Kim that I am a NICU nurse. I was at UVRMC for 16 years and was personally attached to all little beings that came to our unit. A prayer is always in my heart for the littlest of them all to make it through but that is not always the case for even though medically trained I had to come to realize that I was not the one making the calls. So to this I add a glad tiding of hope for the sweet reunion in the next life. And the short but sweet blessing of the darling spirit that spent a moment on earth in order to belong to such a wonderful family. Merry Christmas!!!

From Marion on Thu, Dec 25, 2008 at 23:50:14

Thanks Lucia!

Thanks Julie. Kim has told me about your job. The nurses were so wonderful to Barbara and Russell. This is my second infant nephew that has passed away. We have learned much about the truth of what you have said. They are such a blessing to us and their families and their short life has taught us so much about the love of our Father in Heaven and his plan for His children. :)
