I was supposed to do 12 miles today, but the brain had different plans for me.  Migrane set in and I hunkerd down in my bed for most of the day.  I finally got out around 3:30.  I felt like running more, but I have learned from the past that long runs on migraine days are a really BAD idea.  The roads were fantastic.  only about .75 miles of my run were snow covered.  The rest were prefectly clear and dry.  I ran to Salem on the highway.  The shoulder is wide and clear of snow and ice.  The first mile was overall downhill, but my calves and left knee were acting up.  It was the inside of the felt knee in front.  It went away about 1.5 miles in.  The pain was about a 4 to 4.5.  I am wearing new shoes and who knows if that could have anything to do with it.  The middle three miles were very nice.  Mile 5 has a beauty of a hill in it.  I just kept saying, "keep moving" and I was fine.  I think I will stick to this route on non-snowing days.  It was really nice.  Have a great day!  I am going to get into the shower and get ready for my hot date!

Good job getting out there, Marion! Enjoy your hot date.

Brave girl to get out in the cold! Hope the headache is gone and you have a fun hot date!

Sounds like your town actually plows the roads? Or is it that you didn't get as much snow there in Payson? PG and Cedar Hills feels and looks like I moved to the Artic. I am having environmental trauma. Like where is my green grass? Where is some color besides white? It is actually quite beautiful if the windchill is taken out of it. Anyways... I was sorry to hear about your migraine. Good to listen to your body. I have also learned running with a headache already on board only leads to more trouble. But awesome you got out there. And yes your new shoes can cause all those new pains. I have been told to walk around a few hours in your house with them on before running in them (Runner's Corner advice from Hawk). Have never done that so will start with my new pair and let you know if there is a pain-free transition this way.

Good advice about the shoes! :) Our city roads are HORRIBLE! THe highway is maintained by the state and thus it is beautiful and clear :D I just have to make it alive to the highway :)

A little running with the brain pain is good- long runs are torture!!! I ran 10 miles with one once and after about mile 5 I wanted to lie down on the side of the road and take a nap or cry until some one picked me up :)

Sorry about the migraine Marion. Hope you had a fantastic time on your date!

From Marion on Sun, Dec 28, 2008 at 10:11:53

Date report- It was a little "less hot" than planned. We took our 11 year old, Kate, with us. She has been having a really hard time being lovable lately, and everyone knows the cure for ornery kids- you've got to love them ,and hug them, and kiss them! So she got some much needed one on one with mom and dad. We went out to dinner and then to see Bedtime Stories. The movie was great and VERY family friendly.

From tarzan on Sun, Dec 28, 2008 at 10:13:20

Did Kate enjoy the date? (bwahahaha I'm a poet and I know it)

From Marion on Sun, Dec 28, 2008 at 10:19:39

Yes she did. She told us NO first and then realized that she was the only one being hurt by that decision. She was even chatty by the time we got through dinner. She's a tough nut to crack, but I think we will get there. ;) She is SO different that her sisters...(sigh)

Merry Belated Christmas, Marion! Hope the holidays are treating you well :) I'm anxious about the New Year. How about you? Any plans?!

From Smooth on Sun, Dec 28, 2008 at 15:33:00

Marion, good run!!! Sorry about the migraine. How GREAT to take KATE to a one-on-one DATE. You're awesome parents.

I can't wait to break out the new shoes. I never had issue with new shoes. If anything else, they seem to make me run faster. I'm sure it's all in my head.

From Becca on Sun, Dec 28, 2008 at 18:47:04

Marion, glad you got a run in despite the headache. And glad you had a good date despite the lack of hot-ness! ;)
