Crazy weird run today :0 Kim and I ran up Payson Canyon to the 2.5 mile mark, then ran down until David and my brother, Dan, and kids, picked me up and we went up to the Gratto.  We hiked up there, it's a very pretty and EASY hike for kids.  Then we hiked down.  I ran up the canyon a bit more and then back to the car and then we drove back down.  They dumped me off about a mile and a half from home and I ran it in.  Like I said, crazy weird ;)

I do have a head cold at the moment.  It hit all of a sudden at 4 o'clock yesterday afternoon. I am really hoping that it doen't get any worse.  I am going to make sure to get plenty of fluids, rest and oranges ;)   I don't feel bad, except a mild headache from the congestion.  I am somewhat irritated by the whole thing, but I am not going to stress over it at all :D  Life is good and I ran 5.5 miles today :)

Good miles today!! Somtimes it's fun to mix it up like that. I hope you get feeling better. Drink lots... and get some rest.

I heard on NPR yesterday that certain kinds of tangerines from CA have 6x the normal decongestent power of other fruits. Might be something to consider. Hope you feel better, Marion!

I feel like I am now not only the token slow chick on the blog, but the whiney sickly one. I swear, I NEVER get sick, normally. Maybe I need to get my thyroid checked again. If it is off, I can have a really hard time healing and staying well.

I wonder who has those tangarines? They sound WONDERFUL!!!

I think it has more to do with stress though. I am cutting 3 big things out of my life as of today. That will free up nearly 2 whole days :) I willlearn to say NO more often!!!

Great fun run Marion! Do take care of yourself girl. My motto is " SIMPLFY" Way to look out for yourself!!!

Great job and what a fun day! Please do not get sick!!!

From Burt on Thu, Nov 13, 2008 at 19:43:16

I read in Runners World that running makes you more susceptible to sickness.

From Kelli on Thu, Nov 13, 2008 at 20:50:30

Burt---which issue?? I so believe that becasue I get sick all of the time and I did not used to!! I am sure many would argue with that, however...

Marion - which kids did you cut out of your life?

Sounds like you got lots of good hills in today.

I have heard that runners are more susceptible to sickness, but in my case found it the opposite. Once I took up running, I cleared up my asthma, when I get sick - it is only for a day or so compared to weeks in the pre-marathon days.

My only lingering running 'sickness' is anemia - but I can handle that.

And - if you had told me a year or so that I would be back to working out and running within 2 weeks of a hysterectomy - I would have never believed you.

From marion on Thu, Nov 13, 2008 at 23:34:53

Burt- WHAT? I have noticed a HUGE reduction in my illnesses, length and indtensity, since I have lost weight. I am going to read that article. That is a bummer :(

Maurine- I kept all the kids and got rid of the washing machine! If it's not there, I don't have to do laundry :) I think that all of this activity makes us tougher!!!

Sickness affects you different when you're in better shape. I bet you wouldn't have dreamed of running 5.5 miles with a headcold not too long ago.

From marion on Fri, Nov 14, 2008 at 10:21:53

You are right Mike. I feel MUCH tougher and stronger and able to leap tall buildings in a single bound! ;) Running has taught me SO much about doing hard things. Now if I can just keep this out of my lungs, I'll be FAB!!! ;)

From Kelli on Fri, Nov 14, 2008 at 10:26:58

I think I get sick more because I am TIRED and never get enough sleep. That is an indirect side effect of running. But I do get better fast, and i run sick often!

From Burt on Fri, Nov 14, 2008 at 10:39:19

I think nutrition has a lot to do with it to. There are certain foods such as apples that the article mentions that help counter balance the affect of the decreased immune system.

From Kelli on Fri, Nov 14, 2008 at 10:41:10

Well, then that explains it---says the queen of bad eating!

From marion on Fri, Nov 14, 2008 at 11:00:57

Yes Dr. Burt- I think you are right. I have been very lax on my fruits and veggies the last few weeks. I have an entire crisper of apples and will get to work on them right away!!

From Burt on Fri, Nov 14, 2008 at 15:04:43

Well, you know what eating too much of them will do...
