I started running in May of 2006 while losing 85 lbs after my youngest was born.  I have 6 fantastic kids, 3 girls and 3 boys and a wonderful husband.  My oldest is in college and my baby is in pre-school. (Six kids in 5 schools ;)

My legs were solid lead today.  The first mile was ok, but after that it was not so hot.  I had planned on 4 miles today, but I turned it around at 1.5 because I just plain thought I should.  Nothing really hurt, I just figured I should let the legs off of the hook since they did not get a day of rest after the race on monday.  The paces were really slow today.  The last split would have been REALLY slow, except I picked up the pace considerably for the last .4 mi :D  I thought if I my legs were going to be lead anyway- I may as well make them go faster :D   I should take an ice bath, but I am so stinkin' cold I just cannot bare it!

I found 2 pennies :) and I was almost killed :(  Seriously- I had to get off the road and he still came with in inches of taking me out.  I am still pretty freaked out about the whole thing.  There had to be a legion of angels keeping me safe today, truly.  My mantra of "Live to run another day," has a whole new meaning now.

Have a great day!

So glad you are okay!

Glad that you amde it back home safe. I hate that cars don't watch for runners. I say runners, because I pass a group of women every morning, there are at least 6 - 7 of them and they are stretched across the whole road and walking, cars avoid them. I run on a 1' shoulder and cars drive right beside me. I carry a small flash light in the mornings, I turn it on when a car is approaching, and at times shine it in their windshield. The legs will start to feel better, remember to keep a positive attitude while you are running. Kellie was always having bad runs, so I told her to always think positive. I never hear her complain about bad runs anymore. You are doing awesome!!

Thanks Sarah and Tyler :)

Tyler- I have noticed that the week after a race is not usually the best for me. I'm not sore, just when I run, the legs would prefer not too :) They should get a grip in a few days and give into the fact that they still have to run everyday regardless of how much they refuse to cooperate :)

From Kelli on Wed, Sep 03, 2008 at 15:49:07

I hear ya! Those cars (and bikes) tick me off! They think they own the road! Well, they do, I guess, technically own the road. But, they do not own the shoulder! Runners own the shoulder---it is time for us to claim it!

Glad you are here and safe for another day and hope your legs feel better soon. My feel like lead every day, so I am used to it.

I'm so glad you are safe, Marion! That is one of my greatest paranoid fears. My sister-in-law was hit and killed by a truck 10 years ago while running and I think that was a large part of why I mentally could not run on roads until a couple of years ago.

From Marion on Wed, Sep 03, 2008 at 16:11:48

That makes me crazy! I am glad you are okay. Another reason to run trails!!! Be so careful girlfriend!!!! Yeah, your legs will be fine, you are a rock star! I think you are feeling it because you used em' good! Celebrate!!!

Thanks for your kindness my sweet friends. I wondered how you would find out I was dead? :) I know that is not funny. My sister-in-laws running partner was killed this past spring by a guy who fell asleep at the wheel. I am SO so sorry, Maruine about your siser-in-law. That is horrible!!!

I am afraid to run trails alone :) I need a big scary dog. Maybe I could borrow one!

Wow, I am just now tuning in on the FRB for the day. First of all, I am proud of you for listening to your body and turning around when you thought you should. Second, I am SO GLAD that you are okay. Third of all, I am so sorry to any of you who have suffered a loss like the ones spoken of, that is horrible. I guess I need to start thanking my husband for making me wear a florescent vest and flash light when running in the dark.

You Rock!! Keep up the good work Marion!!

I'm glad you're okay.... I thought you were just kidding at first. YIKES!!! Be careful!!!!!

From marion on Wed, Sep 03, 2008 at 21:55:57

The saddest thing was that it was in BROAD DAY LIGHT! (about 8 am)

Thanks guys. My husband wanted to know if I got the plate #. I was too freaked out and he was going way too fast :(
