18 stationary bike. 18 walk. yoga. I have decided to do the UVM 1/2 and SGM in October. *** I just signed up for the UVM 1/2*** So who is going to do it with me????
| |
| | 25 min stationary bike. 25 min walking on treadmill. yoga... don't have a total yet on this one ;) | |
| | 60+ min yoga (most early this morning and about 10 min after my run). 1/4 mile warm up walk, 1 mile run (12mm pace) the rest of the miles cool down. 25 min on the treadmill total. Everything feels ok. My knees are funny, especially the one that had the HUGE bruise on it after the wreck. I am pretty sure it's from where the bumper of the car hit me. I'll have Brady check it out. The run was a hard mile. My body would rather lay on the couch ;) |

nothing today. My back was really tweaking Thursday. Ashley gave me a really good massage and that helped. I thought I'd better play it safe :p We did put all of the Christmas stuff in the attic. Oh and I did do about a million loads of laundry... and that is NO exaggeration! ;) ....ok, maybe a little :D |
| | 1/2 mile warm up. 1 mile run (12mm). whatever was left for a cool down, 25 min total. Yoga until my back started to freak out. Ash beat it up a bit, but it is getting all excited again. It's like it is trying to dislocate a few ribs again. I have a cold and went to the eye doc yesterday. My eyes started to get weird again right after the accident. I needed to make sure that it was just this 40 year old thing and not related to the accident. He thinks its just the old lady thing and that my exam was normal. My prescription doubled :( I am going blind fast :( I get to wear bifocals now. I am not very happy. I hate my regular glasses enough. Would you like some more whine with your lunch? I probably have a little bit more I can find ;) |

I came down with a cold friday night :( I don't feel horrid, just tired and my nose is a mess :( I have been in the house so much, that I decided to bundle up and shovel some snow. I believe that so long as you are warm, some fresh air is good for a silly cold :) No other exercise because I was just plain pooped out!
|
| |
The cold it still hanging on. I ate a good breakfast and decided to do the run. It was a 1/4 mile warm up and a 1.5 mile run with a bit more than a 1/4 mile cool down. 30 min on the treadmill. I was VERY tired on the run so I stopped for water and that helped. I think I hate colds :p I got a sourdough start for christmas and I have been having so much fun with it. I am making whole wheat sourdough bread tonight for dinner. It has cracked wheat and whole wheat berries in it. I am VERY excited to try it. If anyone wants a start, let me know :) note to self- there was a little tenderness on the inside of my left knee where the car hit me for about the first 3/4 mile. It wasn't painful, just bothersome.

35 minute walk run :) .25 walk, 2 mile run (11:33 ave), .5 cool down walk. It was much nicer to run outside. I didn't cry :) David wanted me to stick to our little neighborhood, so I did :) I found my Garmin :) I am SO happy!!! I also go faster and therefore further outside :) Now its time for yoga. It was SO beautiful outside!! I am happy :D ps- my dad moved his thumb last night :) WONDERFUL news!

| | 12:15, 11:42, 11:16(.5) I warmed up on the treadmill for 5 min then headed out for the 2.5 miles on the road. I had this horrible inclination to throw rocks at cars and make nasty faces at drivers today :( I think everyone was very nice and polite, I am just a bit defensive :( My left hip\lower back has an irritation. I'll bring it up with Brady on thursday. 7 min cool down on the treadmill. 45 min yoga this morning and now I'll do about 10-15 to stretch out the bod :) Man, this run was hard. I am SO out of shape :( |

I am not sure on the treadmill distance because I was on the phone when I got off and remember seeing 2.__ but I don't remember what the something was :) Yoga followed. fun times were had by all. The run did not seem to make anything worse. I've got niggles here and there. |

| | The back and neck were not happy today :( I thought it wise to take a day off and just chill. I even took a nap today :) Ashley gave me a good back neck massage; I am feeling better :) |
| |
Will update my activity later, I just had to post about my doc visit before I forgot it all :) Everything is going well. The upper back/neck/shoulders is just being a baby. Brady gave me some exercises to strengthen the upper back and help to mobilize the thorasic spine. It's kind of seized up and refusing to play nice with the rest of my back :p The good news is that the upper back will not keep me from running :) We should be able to make some good progress with some work. Part 2- the SI joint and piriformis/sciatic nerve. This is also going to take a bit longer to heal. It very likely might turn into a chronic problem that I will have to learn to manage. The good news is that in the past month, through yoga and other stretches I have been able to manage and relieve the pain, both are good signs. It also might just go away too :D I am so surprised that the spine can have such a hard time healing and be so complicated. I mean really, I am SO lucky to not be hurt worse, but still I am surprised. Today, I've already run a mile with a 1/4 mile warm up. I need to go finish up to 40 min total on the treadmill. I am reducing the stationary bike to no more that 30 min each day on days that I don't run. I'm pretty sure that it is giving my SI joints problems; Brady concurs. Brady does not want me to increase my runs to 3 days a week until March. More slow and steady winning the race thing :) When I do start the 3 times a week, he wants that new day on the treadmill. So at least one day a week on the treadmill :p this has been SO hard losing all of my fitness. this is so hard starting way back here at the end of the line again. I wonder why my right shift key is not working???? Have a great day! Oh and I do have about 30 minutes of yoga planned along with the stretches and strengthening that Brady prescribed :) ..and the treadmill and stationary bike :)

| | 3 mile run outside. 12:41, 11:56, 11:53. It was REALLY hard :( It's hard, I remember how long it took to get where I was and it's very hard to not get discouraged by being back at the beginning again. I can do this and it's worth the effort! |

30 min stationary bike. 45 min walking on the treadmill. Yoga. I went in to see Brady today. More back exercises. I am noticing an improvement in my back each week. My neck is still a baby and so is my back, but I do feel stronger. The improvement is so gradual that it's frustrating, but things are slowly improving. I am starting to believe the docs.. I will recover :) ....probably ;)

| | 3.5 run outside after the kids got home from school. I was afraid as usual to do it. I almost yelled at one lady, but I refrained :) nearly an hour of yoga plus back exercises. OH- and AWESOME lunch with the ladies... Smooth, Luz, Sunny, Josse, Allie and Michelle. What a gREAt time! |

ran 3. left knee hurt first mile. Sucked wind the next two miles. at the start of mile 4 the right knee gave out entirely with pain. I tried running a few times after walking a ways, but the pain returned. By the time I got home, the knee was bothered by walking. I have a dr appt today. I pretty much want to quit. I have had it. On the brighter side, my back is really doing much better over all. I feel like it is finally really healing :) I am so mad right now I could spit nails, but since I hate the taste of nails, I'm just going to settle for crying. ** Dr update- Brady said that the knees are not serious and will be fine :) He beat them up and then did acupuncture with some homeopathic drugs. He says I can run on Fri or sat and that next week I can add one more day. He popped my "drama" balloon :) I am glad. I go back next week. Oh, the diagnosis for the right knee, weak hammies. He gave me some torture-esque exercises to do with the yoga ball to strengthen the hamstrings. I guess all of this time off made my hammies wimps. Diagnosis for the left knee... since the pain is exactly where the bruise was from the accident, it is probably just some latent injury that is chiming in as my miles go up. He thinks he's got it covered. We shall see. I need more faith and patience. |

45 minutes on the treadmill. 1 mile running. I get to add a 3rd day of running in each week :) It has to be on the treadmill. I am really hoping that the bod can handle it! | | 4.5 mile run around my little neighborhood. Nothing hurt. :) There weren't many cars. My cardio is coming back slowly. It feels good to see some improvement. Went to Brady on Tuesday. He did some more magic and everything is working well. It is ever so faint, but I am starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel. From now on I am going to write 5 good things about my runs. #1 nothing hurt #2 cardio improving, noticably #3 I did not get mad at any cars and drivers #4 I was the perfect temp, not too cold nor too hot. #5 I felt safe :) |

5 mile run. I was tired and slow. the foot was fine for todays run :) the left knee was doing a weird thing. I see Brady on Monday. Next weeks plan is to run 3 monday, 5 Wednesday and 6 on Sat. I will just add a mile a week to Saturdays run each week until after the 1/2 in June. for Marathon training, I'll be adding up to 8 miles on the Wed run and the long stuff on sat as prescribed. If all goes well with the half, I'll add a 4th easy run day :) Lament and Whine section- my weight will not go down :p ARGH! Ok, it will go down, but just SUPER slow :p I'm going to start posting it. Maybe the SHAME of my FATTNESS will get my Maybe not.... I'll think more on it and let y'all know :)
| |
| | 1.3 too much wind and I wimped out :p |
| | 3 on the treadmill. I am starting to hate the treadmill less ? ;) |
| | 6 miles outside; the longest distance so far. The running is starting to feel more back to normal. I as sucking a lot less wind when I run :) The legs and back are doing well. I am still having issues here and there, but the pt is resolving them as they come up. My SI joint is intermittently flaring up, without rhyme or reason, but not too bad, just bothersome. My knees are not 100%. I have never had knee issues, so I am still hoping that it's just a glitch here and there that just needs to be worked through. Over all, the running is feeling more like it used to. Over all I am feeling healed. I am thinking I am up to about the low to mid 90's, if I were going to give it a percentage of healed ;) I'm not too worried about being able to complete the UVM 1/2 in June. | |
| | 3 miles on the treadmill. It felt good :) | |
| | I forgot to post this one. 2.5 on the treadmill and then 2.5 outside. The running is feeling good :) the niggles are getting more and more minimal. Healing seems to eminent :) I am still only allowed to run 3 days a week and I am getting used to that kind of idea. I am having more and more good running moments :) It really is nice to have that return. It makes the idea of running a marathon this fall more palatable :) |

| | A 5k to start the day then 4 more to round it off. My first 7 in a LONG time :) the last mile actually felt the best. It felt GOOD :) Our city put on a $1 5k/1 mile fun run for the city in an effort to encourage physical fitness. My first mile was with my 10 year old. He did great. Then he hopped on his bike and rode the rest of the 5k with me. At the start of the 5k I was starting to get a migraine :p At the 5k finish, I didn't feel well, so I went home (a block away from the race start) and ate a little and drank. Once I felt better, I headed out for 4 more miles. These 4 miles were wonderful. The last mile was perfect (except for that STUPID neuroma ;p) I don't have any negative effects from running. No fatigue, no aches, no pain :) The niggles are very small aches in my back and si joint. they are VERY small and seem to be diminishing each week. I can't wait to run 8 next week. I will be a happy camper when 10 miles on saturday is the norm again :) |

| | tooth ache turned root canal... head hurts too much to run. I'm just chillin and hoping to feel better for tomorrows run. | |
| | So after more than a week of serious tooth pain, my tooth quit hurting :) It still hurts to chew hard things, but I am pretty happy :) The run was outside and felt fine. I was a bit more winded than I would have liked, but it wasn't too bad at all. I get to run 8 miles this weekend. :) |

I slid my run into a pocket of nice weather....well, nicer than all of the weather surrounding the run :) I did hit a bit of wind and mini hail. Not too bad. My neuromas are back and I am unhappy about it. I was hoping that all of the time off/reduced would have caused them to heal or disappear or something. I have had no accident related pain for the past few weeks :) I should put a little asterisk by that, as I do have mild, occasional SI discomfort as well as mild and occasional back discomfort, but SO much reduced that it is getting hardly worth a mention. It has been 6 months since I was hit by the car. My fears with running are even diminishing dramatically. I can do a whole day of house work without fear of not being able to walk the next day. I have been lifting heavy things more and more and not having any negative effects. Hopefully there aren't any surprises, but I feel like things are good. I go to the PT on Monday. I am thinking that this will be my last visit. Hopefully he concurs ;) *** long run update- I was sore all evening. Funny how 7 did nothing at all to me, but 8 got the muscles a little upset. My back is ok. My SI joint is bugging me. It's not intense, but it is bothersome. I will bring it up with the pt. I had a hard time sitting for all of church. I did a 15-20 minutes stand and march in place thing between meetings and that helped everyone (the legs and the SI joint) tolerate the sitting better. Sacrament meeting killed me. It wouldn't have been so bad, but I had boys crawling all over me and I was sitting there for and hour and 25 minutes after sitting for an hour and a half in another meeting. I wonder if there are some stretches that can help to get this joint a little less grumpy. |

| | 5 min stationary bike...per the pt's recommendation. This run felt hard. I did not get a drink before I left and that is not a great idea. My legs and back felt great. My neuroma felt fine. the doc injected it with some stuff. Here's hoping it works! the si joint is happy :) I get to graduate from PT at my next appt. | | Brady is going to let me run even though he would prefer that I take 6-12 weeks off again. He gave me some crazy new ITB stretch to do and ordered me to get new shoes. I can run my long run tomorrow until it hurts, then I have to stop. I am going to run the 1.1 mile loop around my house until it hurts or I get to 8-10 miles. I did get new shoes today. He wanted me to get a lower heel shoe. Lets see how it goes. MAN, I really am tired of issues :p I bet y'all are too :) | |

| | 2.5 miles and then the ITBS flared and I hobbled home. I cried as I hobbled. I am frustrated and mad and don't know what to do. I can power through with PT and do the half or I can just cut the activity and let it heal. I don't know what to do. |
| | Still not sure what to do. I am feeling pretty bad. I am finally healed from the accident then this stupid ITBS shows up all uninvited. I have two consults this week with different doc's/PT's. I may cancel them and just rest for a few weeks. I have been in physical therapy for more than 6 months and I just don't think I can bare any more right now. I've thought about all of the reasons to do the therapy and not to do it. The list of pro's and con's is LONG and pretty evenly matched. I've been chatting with many of my good friends and they have given me lots of great advice. I'm going to sleep on it for a few more days. Quick question... Why do injuries always occur within 24 hours of buying new running shoes??? PS- Have I told you lately that I love you :) Thanks for reading all of my whine over the last 7 months! xoxoxoxo | |
| | ran until the knee began to flare. foam rolling, cross frictional massage. |
| | ran until knee flared. stopped at first sign. foam rolling, cross frictional massage, stretches of all sorts and sizes. I am going to add advil. |
| | My SIL called me last night with some good information that I think will work for me. It's from Jeff Galloways running site. Here is the link. http://jeffgalloway.com/training/injuries.html I like that I can run/walk once the healing has begun. He recommends a wak/run ratio of 2:2. I think this will get me my miles so I can do the 1/2 in 5 weeks. | |
| | Yippe!!! It worked :) I walked for 2 min and then ran for 2. The knee was fine :) I walked at 3.5 and then ran at 5 and 6 alternately each running turn. I rolled and stretched and then ate breakfast :) I have been taking 300mg of advil 3x's a day since last friday. On thursday I will do 5 and sat 7, if all goes well. The run went by really fast :) I Need a buzzer or something to beep at me every 2 minutes. I missed one of the switch overs. Have a GREAT day!! |

| | the walk run thing seems to be fitting the bill. I plan to run walk 8 miles on Sat and then 10 the next saturday. I have been foam rolling my right hip like crazy. My right hip seems to be the cause of my ITBS. that darn hip :p I am pretty happy that things are going well. It's hard to relax and just go with whatever happens. |

| | it worked! the 10 miles went really well. I ran super slow the first 5 miles. (I was still doing the walk run thing, switching every 2 minutes). for the second 5 I ran as fast as I could during my runs. It felt great. My right foot's neuroma was KILLING me, but I can live with that ;) I am really excited for the half next weekend. :) I'm still rolling my right hip. It is the root of all evil! |

UVM my first DNF :( The ITB flared at mile 7-8. I'm pretty sad and have cried a bunch. It is what it is. *** the details for posterity ;) This race was my sil, Barbara's first half. I talked her into it :) Kristine (David and Barbara's sister) drove in from CA to run it too, as well as Kylee( Barb, David and Kristine's brothers wife) also came to run it with us. Barbara is from Bakersfield, CA and Kylee is from No. SLC. We had a GREAT time Friday with our families at the pool and then chilled all evening eating a spaghetti dinner and popsicles :) We left the house at 3:45 to meet the buses. We stood in line FOREVER, but made it to the start in plenty of time for a POP stop and to drop our bags. Kylee was shooting for her first sub 2. Kristine was planning on and easy run and a sub 2 as well. Barb just wanted to finish and then under 2:45 would be great. Barb did a ~2:43. Kristine did a ~1:52 and Kylee did ~ a 1:55. The weather was PERFECT!!! It really could not have been a better day!!.. well almost ;) I started out running with Barbara.. mistake #1. I should have done exactly as I had trained and walked for the first 4 min then started the running. I didn't start out too fast. I also did a 2 run 1 walk and that was a mistake as well. Live and learn and cry a lot. Mile 1 was not my favorite, shin splint pain in both legs, which is unusual for me. After mile one I told Barbara to go on and I needed to do my own thing. Back to 2:2 walk run. This worked GREAT and while I am not a quick walker, I was able to run 8mm for my running and it felt great. Mistake #2 was an 8 minute wait for a pop. I should have just held out to mile 8, no lines there. Now this is where I cant remember very clearly. Everything was fine until right as we come out of the canyon. I started to notice twinges here and there. This is also where I started crying really hard. I was so upset by the the twinges that I bawled, which embarrassed me as now there were tons of spectators. I pulled my visor down as low as I could and my sun glasses were on. Tears were streaming and I was trying to hold back the sobs. I kept the 2:2 run walk thing until my right knee totally gave way, so I just walked. I prayed that David would come and guess what, he did. Just before Will's Pit Stop he drove by screaming and waving heading up the canyon past me. I finally got brave and quit crying long enough to ask a random spectator if she had a phone. A nice lady gave my her phone and I called David to tell him to flip around and come get me. It was right by mile nine and the thought of crying my way for 4 more miles, walking and heart broken, just made me cry harder. Russ and his kids were in the car so I couldn't cry so I ate 3 donuts. Donuts work well for stopping crying ;) We drove back to the start to see Barbara finish. I missed it because I went back to the car to get my race number so I could pick up my drop bag. I must have walked too close to the finish line, because I have a finish time for the 1/2. I'll email Hyrum to get that deleted on monday. I have thought about whether I should have just walked it in or not, and I really think the dnf was best. I would have been alone and crying all those 4 miles and just fell apart at the finish. I suppose if someone had been with me to talk some sense to me, maybe it could have been different, but all I wanted to do was to go home and cry in my room. A strange side note. Last monday when we were down in St George (in Kim and Tom's AWESOME condo), I noticed that my right foot was swollen on top. No pain, just swollen. By Friday night it was still swollen and painful to touch from the ankle to the toes. It still is swollen and painful to touch, walking does not hurt it. I am going to the doc this week and see what is up with it. Who knows and at this point, WHO CARES!!! ;D I haven't cried too many times today. My hips are killing me (bum, mostly) and my ankles are achy. I am sure the hard concrete and the downhill were not my friends for this event. Live and learn and take a salt tab to replace all the salt lost from crying ;)

| | The foot swelling is going down. I haven't had time to get in with a doc. I pulled out soon enough on sat that I haven't had a single twinge of the itb, even while going down stairs. My hips have chilled and so have my ankles. Sunday I was really tired, probably mostly because of the emotionality of saturday ;) I am hoping that I can wake up early to go pool running with Mac and Michelle :) | |
| | This is something that a friend posted to my other blog about my dnf. I thought it was sweet and wanted to post it here. I think it a good thing to remember for us all on those seemingly frequent BAD days ;) "DNF. Hmm. They don't sound like bad letters to me. DNF. Did Not Fail. Did Not Fall. Did Not Finish is actually good too. Even though this race kicked you in the ear, doesn't mean that you are going to quit, right? So not finishing is a good thing...you aren't quiting. That is one of the amazing things I see in you, Guru, is that you never except failure. You may stumble, you may eat over 100 ppv in a day, you may get hit by a car, you may have the whole world fall on top of you, but you still get right back on the wagon and are determined to never quit. (You are a huge example to me of ENDURING!!!) This is what I love about you. You are Determined Never to Fail! DNF! :) You rock! " | |
| | 60 minutes of yoga. It dawned on me that it has been a LONG time since I have taken a deep breath! I have got to get a long term stress management plan in place. Running for 60 minutes each day really works well, but it is not possible right now. | |
| | yoga for 60 min. I did all of my yoga and strengthening exercises given to me by the doc and some tricep stuff too. NO FLABBY RS ARMS!!! | |
| | 45 min yoga. 30 min elliptical. 65 min weeding. 30 min treadmill walking.... later while I watch a movie :) We may go to SF reservoir this afternoon. Haven't decided yet. I took the boys to Salem Pond yesterday. It was nice and HOT! Perfect!! I am LOVING the heat! I am VERY sorry for all of those who are experiencing flooding right now. So scary and terrible :( I feel bad for being glad that it is finally warm. We may have to put a pool in. I suppose that it not really a great idea financially, but boy would I love it. I used to think that my parents always had a pool for us kids, now I am quite sure it was for them ;) We do have a creek. I guess i just need to put up a privacy fence and then I can pretend the creek is a pool ;) We might even be able to dig out a spot for a beach.... | |
| | 30 elliptical, 15 yoga, 30 walk on the treadmill |
| | 40 min walk with the family |
| | 30 yoga, 30 elliptical, 30 treadmill walk. 30 Frisbee with the family. going to the doc tomorrow to see what is up with the STUPID swollen right foot :p |
| | 40 min elliptical. 40 min yoga. I went to the doc and guess what???? My 4th metatarsal on my right foot is broken :p My right foot swelled up while we were in St George at the beginning of the month. Of course I ignored it until this monday when even I couldn't deny that it was still swollen and that was weird. It's mostly healed so I should be in the "shoe" for just a few weeks. I can swim and bike. No biking because of the ITBS, though. I am going to just chill and heal. ...and eat watermelon! | |
| | Hey everyone :) Just an update... I am focusing on losing weight and strength training so hopefully I can avoid some of this CRAP in the future :) I am hoping to start a slow return to running in september or october. I'll blog about it all later. I am off to the doc to check out the footie :) | |
| | 2.5 mile walk with Maryanne in the AM. 50 minute circuit training in the evening. It feels good to move. Little pain here and there in the right hip and right knee. I am getting to the end of my rope and ready for am mri on the both. Went to the dermatologist. Removed 3 moles. two are being biopsied. I'm not too worried either way. It's only a matter of time before skin cancer surfaces ;P | |

| | 2.5 mile walk with Maryanne in the AM. 50 minute circuit training in the evening. It is hard to get the two a day in. I am plotting my day well so That I can come home from the pool in time to do the 50 min circuit, shower and be ready to go see the Help with our friends :) We are going to the pool in a few here. We've got to get in all of the time we can before FALL comes along with school to RUIN our lives ;D I may need to move to.... I don't know where...... At least now I have an elliptical and a stationary bike to add to my treadmill in the family room. It's a bit much to have crammed into a corner, but it will save my hide this winter :)

| | So here is a brief recap of the past few months... stress fracture in June, july. Started walking in August. At the first of september started to add little bits of running. I sprained my ankle in october, not serious, but just took a week off and then ellipted the next week. I am back to run walking this week :) I am SUPER FAT!!! So since my life is not going to "uncrazy" it's self, I am just going to have to learn to deal with stress without food. The plan is to lose THIRTY pounds (20 "stress" lbs and 10 fantasy lbs ;) be kind and slow with getting back to running as I lose the terrible 20 and then run a 1/2 marathon this summer and st George in the fall. I do have an issue with my right knee. I need to get into a orthopedic surgeon and have it checked out. It has never been able to handle much running since the accident. Today's activity. 20 min elliptical aerobic program. 40 minutes on the treadmill, 2 min walk 1:30 run. Everything felt just fine :) I got to talk to Michelle yesterday. It was SOOOOOOO wonderful to see her :) I miss her :(::::::::..........
| |
